I am looking at a 2002 OB LSV on a boat mate trailer. It struck me odd that the spare was a 14" and on the trailer were 15". It appears to be orginal eqmt, and guy appears to be telling the truth about that is the way it came. Would they setup a spare like this in this time era?

Unlikely it would be supplied with a 14" for a spare. But look at the spares that come with some autos.

If the bolt pattern matches, you could use it to limp to safety, right?

it is a single axle trailer.

I thought too, it was intended as a limp.

A match for $160? How does one know the wheel pattern?

5 lug trailer tires all have a 5 on 4 1/2" bolt circle whether they are 14" or 15".

IMO there is nothing wrong with the 14" spare. The wheel/tire combo should be more than safe to get your boat where ever you need to go in case of a tire failure. I would be more concerned with the tire sizes. If you have a plus sized 14", then the circumference of the tire will be the same as the 15" wheel/tire. In that case, there is not a problem. If one tire is taller than the other, then it would be possible to add stress to the smaller wheel/tire and that hub. However, as a spare, it would be safe and effective.

The 14" would suffice as a spare. When I bought my boat used I got the dealer to throw in a spare tire and he did... a matching wheel and tire except it was a bias tire and not a radial. It still sits there ready and never used while I have replaced the trailer tires once.

Zabooda, check that spare for dry cracking-if its bad you might want to replace it also

Boatmate just updated their website and the prices for the wheel/tire combo look lower than what a dealer would charge.
