I was following some links with regard to powering some LED's and I came across a site where they're using the swim deck bracket to power the lights and not have to drill thru the hull. Has anyone tried this on one of the moomba's?? Is it possible? Any alternative suggestions.

Here is a clip from where I found this

Yea wire all your positive LED wires to one swim platform bracket. Then run all you neg LED wires to the other bracket. Then run a Pos to one Side and a Neg to the other side of your brackets. The platform gets the power threw the brackets. NO drilling at all.

It's more than possible, it does actually work. It will work on any boat that has thru hull platform bolts. Your link is no good but i'm assuming your talking about Grant "G" West's write up on the subject on his Nautique.

Am I missing something??? Why wouldn't the water short that circuit?

Sounds like a good time for some steering diodes.

It would work as the brackets are isolated from each other. The only risk would be having something metal (paddle or ski) bump up against both brackets at some unpainted spot on both brackets while the lights are on which would seem highly unlikely. I was thinking that salt water has a higher conductivity but the spacing is too far apart to make a circuit. The worst that would happen in any case would be tripping the breaker.

thanks for the input. I guess I'm gonna try and see what happens.
