moombadaze
01-07-2009, 02:17 PM
I will be able to make the 17th, dtlaine also has said it should work for him.

But if Ed is down and out and its his home lake maybe we should take a rain check.

Salty, Kaneboats and my family(maybe more?) will/should be up on lake sinclair later this spring for a few days.

Hey Daze, our spring break is Mar. 30 to April 3. Might be a little early for GA, but I was wondering when yours is?

I am pretty sure Salty Oysters is planning on being there on the 17th and I thought I also saw that Wolfeman was going to be there. Here's a mention on Salty's site:

like i said i will be there.

Salt-one thing i dont know if your aware of is we can not get on lake louise-the canals are allmost dry getting to that lake. just checked out your site--looks good and im interested in trying all the boards you bring.

kb, asked the wife and she thinks schools out 1st week of june

kaneboats
01-07-2009, 04:09 PM
We finish on 5/29. We used to wrap it before Labor Day, but not in the last 2-3 years. I know the schools don't want to start too early in August due to the cost of A/C these days.

I don't know if you can put up with me if you're not able to down some Yuenglings. I just dug out two kids' wetsuits and they fit two of them real good. Working on the rest now. I'm still shooting for the 17th.

kaneboats
01-07-2009, 05:34 PM
so what lake or body of water were we going to be afloat on if lake louise is dry.??? i want everyone to ride my boards

I believe it is Lake Minneola, right?

kaneboats
01-07-2009, 05:37 PM
You can go back to Ed's post about the wakeboard camp. It's on Lake Minneola. It was here (post #19 on this page):

moombadaze
01-07-2009, 06:10 PM
yes- lake minneola that is where the boat launch is. Its a shame the lakes are so low cause putting in on minneola and going to louise is a great trip. You go thru 5 lakes with canals and rivers linking them.

Ed, i had a minute of silence for you--not being able to drink beer.

Salt, im real bad with giving directions cause i just dont know the names of some of the roads. I do know the ramp is less that a 1/2 mile from hwy 50. 2 turns off of hwy50 and your there. Let me see if i can google earth it and find the names on the roads.

Kane---hope this works out so you and all the clan can make it

off of hwy50 head north on 12th st--take a right on minneola ave and then i think the next left will have a boat ramp sign

I'm bummed I will miss it. I would love to see Lake M under "normal" conditions and take another swing at surfing. Man do I miss the Florida weather already!!

If we dont get a cold front come thru next week the water may not be all that cold for this time of the year. I think when i was growing up and skiing on the columbia river, that water was colder in the middle of the summer than our lakes are right now.

If it's the sign I'm thinking of be warned that it is the tiniest sign you can imagine. You have to keep your eyes peeled.

When I first moved south I jumped in the Wakulla River with the alligators in mid-March. My two brothers thought I was out of my mind. I'd probably need a wetsuit now to survive. We really are spoiled. The last outing I hosted in IL was in Sept and the air was about 72 and the water was around 67. We treated it like a summer day-- I never owned a wetsuit up there. You'd just jump in and say "hit it"!

We normally get to the ramp around 11-11:00am

Im set up for surfing off of the port side (regular) and very hard to switch over to goofy--have to much junk in the rear storage area and only the one 750lb surf bag.

Ed, no camping for us im afraid. got to get home to the mutts-wish they would learn to poop in a hole.

kaneboats
01-08-2009, 12:53 PM
I am trying to negotiate a deal that allows us to visit a campfire and bring smores but sleep in a fleabag motel afterward. I may pack the small tent and camp with the twin boys only.

moombadaze
01-08-2009, 12:59 PM
smores--did someone say smores

moombadaze
01-08-2009, 01:04 PM
Ed, do you know if mutts are allowed to go camping there?

kaneboats
01-08-2009, 01:10 PM
I'm more of a salesman than I thought. I have agreement on camping one night (all of us). We would leave at 7:30 on Sat. morning and meet you guys at the ramp. We'll set up camp at the end of the day-- keep it simple -- we are not going to bring the cooking stuff. We'll just pack up and head for home on Sun. morning unless it shapes up to be a beautiful warm day-- in which case we might hang around for another run.

Do I need to reserve a site near you, Ed?

moombadaze
01-08-2009, 01:15 PM
ummm--thinking about it

kaneboats
01-08-2009, 01:32 PM
I'm thinking about just grabbing a family site so I can park the boat close by. I considered asking Stacy if he wanted to join us and get one of the "youth" camp sites but it looks like we'd have to leave our boats in parking that isn't close. You guys are going to camp, aren't you???????????????

moombadaze
01-08-2009, 02:27 PM
Kb, ive got the ok to stay saturday night, let me know what site you get and i will take the one next to it and tell them ill call and reserve it. oh-looks like the mutts will be camping with us also. Smore's....

kaneboats
01-08-2009, 02:46 PM
All right!!!!!!!!! Go to Reserveamerica.com and look at the map. It's going to be pretty busy that day. We'll have to try to get sites close because I don't think we can get next to each other.

kaneboats
01-08-2009, 02:50 PM
It looks like we can't make a reservation now- it's all booked except for "walkup only" which are first come/ first served.

moombadaze
01-08-2009, 02:56 PM
heck, now what?

kaneboats
01-08-2009, 03:02 PM
I don't know if they'll let somebody walk up and pay today for next Sat. or not. If only we knew someone in Clermont . . .

kaneboats
01-08-2009, 03:08 PM
I called and it's got to be open on the day you show up. The only other choice is to watch Reserveamerica for a cancellation.

moombadaze
01-08-2009, 03:49 PM
what about the group site? maybe we could for a wagon train circle of moomba's and camp in the center of them--that would be a site.

kaneboats
01-08-2009, 03:56 PM
I can't call them now b/c of work. If you can get them to go for it-- count me in. I'm game for any plan that works.

moombadaze
01-08-2009, 04:27 PM

kaneboats
01-08-2009, 04:46 PM
Plan B?

You know where the tiki bar is? I called this place the other day-- thought it might be cool to stay on the lake. But they only have one room with two double beds. No can squeeze.

I am going to keep watching to see if anything opens up. If not, I'll probably just grab a room close to any establishment that serves WINGS!!!

moombadaze
01-08-2009, 06:42 PM
plan B,

Kane's-hotel?, hate to see you guys drive so many hrs in one day

We would then just stay for dinner-ifn youll have us- and hit the road home.

Ed, ive looked in the past but have not found one directly on the lake, Ill try to remember and ask Ragdog's girl if she saw one when they were up there last year.

I called the Clerbrook rv place not too far from the lake. THey have some tent sites but it was after 4 so the mgr. was gone. I told them we're a couple families just looking for a place to park and pitch a couple tents. The lady said she thought they would be able to accommodate us. I'll post more in the am after I talk to them.

kaneboats
01-08-2009, 06:58 PM
this is getting to confusing.

why don't we just forget about boating and go to some place where they have all you can eat waitresses served by naked chicken wings.

Now, refresh my memory. Does waitress taste like chicken?

moombadaze

Maybe not at Red Lobster.

The site says family pets are ok. You got to trust me. I'm more worried about not being able to have a big a$$ bonfire.

Kb there are a couple but i sure dont know the names or location--looks like Ed will swing by and get us some info.

As for lake weir, Ive got Rhonda calling a relative that live's up there to see whats avaliable.

I'm getting cold feet now (literally).

moombadaze
01-09-2009, 05:38 PM
Ed, i agree at this point--postpone it.

I really would hate for the Pat to get his family here and not have good or decent weather--thats alot of travel and hasle rounding up 6 younguns and a wife. We need to save that hassle for when its worth it.

Luckily we are in Florida and that weather should not be to long before its reliably warm to hot out.

Salty, we will be up at Sinclaire this spring and can/will meet up then at the latest. Hopefully we will get a gathering down here sooner that you can make. I know this would have worked out real good with the shot show and all.

kaneboats
01-09-2009, 06:05 PM
I feel terrible about this because I was really getting geared up for it. With Ed not at 100% and us missing our campground reservation and now the weather. It's just not worth the distance and effort for me with all the young-uns.

Now I'm looking ahead to Valentine's Day weekend. Is that sacred for you guys? I have a 3 day weekend because of Presidents' Day which, somehow, I get off. We could keep an eye on the weather and decide a week ahead of time if it is a "go". I hate going out on V- Day anyway, not that we couldn't still get our ladies some nice WINGS!!!

moombadaze
01-09-2009, 06:09 PM
looks like i would have Feb 14th off--just not a 3 day weekend for me

moombadaze
01-09-2009, 06:17 PM
Ed, how long is the estimate on treatment if everything goes good. I really would like to make plan's around this also.

kaneboats
01-09-2009, 06:18 PM
Well, I'd be traveling further so that's not all bad -- definitely would still have to head south in Feb. Is there a lake anywhere south of Ocala where we could camp and be on a surfable lake?

moombadaze
01-09-2009, 06:43 PM
Pat, Ragdogs have been raveing about lake weir, I've got Rhonda checking into camping around that area--she has some relative's close to it

moombadaze
01-09-2009, 08:27 PM
got the wifes ok for the 14th-weather permitting

kaneboats
01-09-2009, 11:36 PM
Sounds great to me. The kids are a little disappointed about next week but they understand it would be tough for them. If we can pull this off and get a little better weather that would be fantastic.

kaneboats
01-11-2009, 02:02 AM
Stacy, we need to decide where and get it booked or we'll end up with no site again. I think you know I'll go anywhere. Just be aware that it's Daytona 500 weekend and that could mean traffic and lodging issues all over central and northern FL.

moombadaze
01-11-2009, 10:00 AM
ok, i'll look into Lake Weir some more. Evertime it comes up Ragdog's tell me ive got to get to this lake. Are we thinking boat on saturday, then tent it saturday night and drive home sunday? or would you stay till monday?. i've got to work monday so thats out for us. Ed if this works would you be staying the night-saturday?

kaneboats
01-11-2009, 01:47 PM
Drive early Sat. and boat all day. Boat a little on Sun. or just head home. I don't think I'd stay Sun. night.

Doesn't work for me. Unfortunately, I have a conflict with the Orlando show. It's probably a good thing though for the same reason I have to stay out of casinos. You don't want to load up that weekend with other stuff anyway, do you?

moombadaze
01-14-2009, 11:57 AM
ok, but where on the 14th

kaneboats
01-14-2009, 01:07 PM
I really liked the idea of Lake Weir. I just ran a search and couldn't find any camping on the Lake though. One of my hits was a MC board where they were discussing this lake. You can look for yourself:

moombadaze
01-14-2009, 02:40 PM
Ed, Padget is getting very low-im forced to back down the ramp-turn a 45 angle and then back across the beach and turn another 45 angle to get to the water--not fun at all and if you dont have a 4x4 i would not even give it a try. That place on the lake where we rafted up is now waist-maybe hip deep.

moombadaze
01-14-2009, 03:14 PM
Kb, i heard of a area kinda close to clermont that allready has fire pit, a hamook and a nice little forest kinda like in a charlie brown cartoon-maybe we should just crash it

moombadaze
01-14-2009, 03:17 PM
after reading the mc thread im wondering about the dora area--ive been on that chain of lakes a few years ago and thought it was good-ill look into some campgrounds there.

kaneboats
01-14-2009, 04:17 PM
I'm all for whatever you decide. We just need to reserve pretty quick here. We may decide this on availability. If we don't find anything we go to camp EDGe on the EDGe of the woods, right?
