We went to Lake Billy Chinook in SE Oregon for 5 glorious days last week. Temp in the mid to high 80's every day, not a cloud in the sky, practically had the place to ourselves. We also met davidl on the water who lives just 10 minutes from the lake - lucky dog! David, sorry we didn't get a chance to hook up for some riding. Definitely next time.

Boat ran flawlessly as usual. We took a neighbor and her two kids (their 1st time on a boat) and they had a blast. We skied, wakeboarded, surfed, tubed. This boat is a GREAT all around boat!

Below are some pics from our trip.

Al

This was on Sunday and was actually the busiest day of the 5.

Good shot of LSV wake at 21 mph, no ballast. That's the neighbor and her two kids.

Cab that's just some plain old beautiful looking water there, I envy you! That kid of yours looks pretty darn comfy on that board! Just about time to get into some Tourneys I think:)

Al,

Looks like you had a great time. I have only been to LBC once and it is a great lake. Did you rent a cabin?

sled,

Yeah, it was pretty much glass shore to shore every day along the arm that we were staying at, and very few others out due to being late in the year. My son is getting pretty comfortable back there, stays on the wave pretty much as long as he wants and is starting to cut back and forth. He stands so far back on the board since it's so fast, I'm amazed he has as much control as he does.

yearround,

Yes, it is a good place to visit especially early in the year as the water and whether warms up long before it does here in the Portland area.

jester,

Yeah, we rented two of the cabins, and a boat slip that was within sight of and only about 75' from the cabin. It's a great set up.

04outback,

If these pics won't getcha itchin' to get out, nothing will :D

oh, I am itching anyway, but that is a beautiful spot..

2 years ago, I fished the cowlitz.. beautiful area..

This time last year, I had just picked up the LSV and made every attempt at getting out every weekend.. this year...not as easy.
last weekend was poo wether.. had to work, out of town today.. and wife is gone, and main crewmember/trusted drive is on baby duty with his new one..

I am hoping I can get a crew tomorrow, weather permitting..

Glad yall had a great time.. a family trip like that has to be way better than a touristy vacation!

Best,
BW

Brad,

Hope you get out tomorrow.

Unfortunately, this was our one, out of town muti-day boating trip of the year. Wish I could have done several more. Next year, I am going to make it a point to.

Cab, I just added another lake to the "Lakes I want to visit someday" list. Looks beautiful! I know Moombadaze has been to the Deschutes River before. I'll have to see if he remembers this lake.

Al, one question, why a wetsuit on you and not on your boy?
Your pictures really remind me of home. Boating after school starts i think is the best time of the year-less people and the weather is still decent.

i know what my answer would be:D

Well, what can I say, I guess my son tolerates cold water better than I do! We had his wetsuit in the boat but he didn't want to wear it. The water was 62 degrees. I probably would have been okay without it, but since I have one, I wear it :)

You say the pics remind you of home - where is home?

GOOD NEWs.. We did get out today! Almost had the river to our selves.
Bass tournament ended at 3 right as were putting in so they were all gone.. Had a big cruiser headin up the river with us, they parked..
Started riding and there was an I/O on the sandbar hangin out.. We took a ride up, then I was riding down.. Came up on the I/O.... pulling a Wakeboarder driving like they were pulling a TUBE.. Ziggin and Zaggin.. almost making U turns.. UGGH
Well, they stayed out of our way most of the time.. We had a few good rides each and I rode my Roam headin down river in some butter..

Man, it felt good to get out there again! We only rode the river about 4-5 times this summer cuz it was way too busy every time.. found somewhere better, just further..

This is the best time of year on the river. Air low 80s, water mid 70s..

And I would have been wearing a wetsuit in 62 deg water as well..

Brad,

Good to hear that you got a good day in. I can only wish for mid-70's temps on the local river - I don't think I saw 70 all summer. But it's always smooth so I'll gladly put up with the cold water.

home is Wenatchee, Washington. used to ski on the Columbia river and lake chelan so i remember what cold water is like. Sad to say but i was at Chelan 5yrs ago and just could not get past my knees in the water-to cold! Your pictures remind me of Cresent bar on the river.

Great pictures, we have gone to Billy Chinook for the past seven years and it is a highlight of our summer. We love the cabins but getting them always raises my blood pressure because it is so hard to get them. i am looking forward to going back in '09 with our first tournament boat.

Last year coupled our Billy Chinook trip with a trip to Prineville Resevoir, another cool high desert lake.
