SS screws under the rear pull out bench seat

Anyone have this problem? The screws are poking up when kneeling( or standing) on the back seat in the outback V 07 the screws are SS 12 x 1 3/4, lowes has the 12 x 1 1/2 i think i need the 1 1/4 to avoid the bloody knee problem fortunately the it was only the tip that peirced the vinyl.( pin hole size) anyone know the lenghth these should be, it looks like they use the screws that bolt the floor down??

I had the same issue. I just backed them out a little instead of replacing them with shorter ones. It's been fine ever since.

Yeah, I should probably replace them over the winter. This was my quick fix to not get anyones feet/knees poked, save a hole in the seat, and not lose any sun time. Let me know if you figure out what size screws actually work. Hopefully someone at SC sees this and shortens them up in the mfg process so others can avoid it.

Is there room to slide a few washers on, effectively shortening the screw while allowing you to tighten them up?

yes, there is room for some washers but I am trying to figure out what proper length they should be so the bench does not fall apart. I am not sure what the screws are holding together. probably the seat top.

Pulled all of mine out and replaced with one and one-half inch SS screws from hardware store. Be sure to match same size as far as shank thickness and haven't had any issue since. Had a kid kneel down on it and poked through his skin.

Grind the tip off, seal the pin hole with something or it will grow.

sd2, what did you seal the pin hole with?

I ground mine before I got a hole. I would think super glue would work. I have seen the hole grow in anouther boat that was not as quick to act.
