I bought an 02 OB about a month ago with 167 hours on it. It has virtually new plugs and wires and everything else looked good. The prop is a 13 X 11.5 OJ. I just wasn't getting the holeshot I expected out of this 310 hp inboard (I've skied behind a 165 hp I/O for 22 years and the OB wasn't much better).

The fuel filter was the culprit! I don't think it had ever been changed. Although I could blow through it easily, it must have been restricted b/c today was beautiful. On a WOT deep water start, I had to focus quite a bit not to be pulled over the front of the ski.

Amazingly, I think it used less fuel too!

On another note, it seems to run hotter than I think it should. I replaced the impeller b/c of it, but she still runs consistently around 180 (granted it was 100+) degrees outside, but the water temp is around 70.

Glad to hear you got that problem fixed, there is no way a 180 hp IO can even compare to a 310 DD. On the temp thing, I'm in WI, my lake is around 80 degrees and with air temp in the 90's boat runs at 180 all day! Our motors need to run a bit warmer due to fact that they don't get to run as long as say a regular 350 in a truck commuting.

My LSV runs around 180 as well, it's normal.

Interesting that you use 13x11.5 prop when I've read most Outbacks use the 13x13 prop.

I bought it used. The current prop on it is a 13 X 11.5, but it also came with a dinged (probably original) 13 X 13. I'll probably get that one repaired and compare the performance (eventually).
