Anybody have experience with both? And if so wich one do you like better? I can get an OJ for about $100 cheaper than the Acme. Is there a $100 dollar difference is my question I suppose. Thanks guy's

DG,

What kind of prop did you just buy? It seems to me that you wrote in another post that you just bought a 14x14 to replace the one that your girlfriend "customized." Did you get an Acme or OJ? I have an OB V, and I was considering buying a wakeboard-oriented prop. I'll be interested in your feedback.

I have both for my 99 Mobius. The boat came with a 13x13 OJ Legend. I smacked it and my prop guy recommended an ACME so I would have two after the OJ was fixed. I can't tell the difference. Primarily slalom. I don't care about top end. And they both pull me out of the water with plenty of throttle left to spare...

dtlaine, ive got the wakeboard prop on the new boat-wow what a difference, getting on plane to run to the other end of the lake with the surfing ballast full is no problem. you will not be disapointed

DG, very interesting reading. Only problem I have with those comments is that they are 4 yrs old. I wonder what the status is now. I know on my Outback the stock CNC prop was the best prop I had (had because I hit an underwater stump). I am currently running a 4 blade stainless. It is OK but near as smooth as my OJ CNC was.

I have both. They are the exact same size. Bought the OJ as a spare after damaging the Acme. I can't tell the difference between the 2. I don't remeber the exact size but the Acme is the original one that came on my 07 LS.

i'm very interested in this as well, im looking to put a new prop on my 2003 mobius lsv, it has teh stock prop, i have no idea what it is, but it has a few knicks in it so it needs replacing. I have been recommended the OJ466 14.25 X 14 XMP 4 blade, anyone using this? Am I going to really notice a big difference with this prop? right now my boat is heavily weighted, 3000 pounds, and it is a slug to get out of the water, and we burn ridiculous amounts of gas.

My new 14x14 is an OJ. It was taken off a brand new LSV and Moomba only uses the OJ props on their boats.

With 10 people in the boat it was effortless to plane. I would have stuggled to get up to speed with the stock prop.

I have the OJ 466 14.25 x 14 on my 05 LSV. Huge difference in hole shot vs stock 13.7 x 17.5. Jumps right up on plane fully loaded. Kept the stock prop as a spare. When switching from boarding to surfing I have to be careful not to jerk my son off the surfboard.

What do you notice as far as the rpms at speed and also what about your top end speed?
I am looking for a new prop as well. I am interested in any information you can give me as far as a comparison of your old prop and new prop.
Thanks
Jimmy

Not sure about RPM but I lost a few MPH on the top speed. I don't spend any time going faster than 30mph so I don't really care.

When going from stock 17.5 to the 14.25 on my XLV, my top speed went from 44 down to 38-40. Maybe it is a smidgen higher, but I have never really tried to see the maximum since then. Like deafgoose, I don't go above 30 much. The tradeoff in top end to get better acceleration is well worth it since I upgraded the ballast.

Alright then I'll go ahead and go pick up the OJ from my dealer. I'll try and let you folks know how it works out this weekend.

probably should have checked before i bought it. I got this prop: 14.25X14 LH XMP "EDGE" 4BLD 1-1/8" (.090C). Is this the right prop for my boat as far as drive shaft diameter and what not? I was told this is the prop to buy by one of their sales reps.

I talked Jim at ACME he suggested sending 3-4 props to see which one I preferred I went with the 14.5 x 14.25 ACME #1235 AWESOME! unbelievable hole shot Increased RPM maybe 100 rpm @ 23 mph Fuel consumption I have not notice much if any change. OJ or ACME I would not turn around for the difference. Both are good as long as you get the proper diameter and pitch.
Call JT at Nettles in Austin Tx. They are good people and can give reliable advice.

I went with the 1235 ACME... amazing hole shot... not much off the top end.. being at 6000ft does not matter much .. .but the bottom is alot more solid then my stock oj that was 14.24 x 14... but that stock oj that i got sure had alot of vibration for the first 2000rpm... drove me nuts.... this prop.. not a sound... so for me.. uh.. ACME.

gcombe..
Interesting about the vibration.. I have the OJ 14.25x14 and have some vibes
I had hear that prop had that issue...
When I test drove the boat, prev owner said it always did that and his buddies 07 LSV did the same...
One day, I wanna try the Acme.. to see..
just another expense!

maybe offseason.. that is about equal to a months gas these days!

Good to know.

My OJ 14.25x14 also vibrates above 3,000rpm. I was thinking my shaft was out of alignment but I am glad to hear it's just the prop.

YeaH.... last year when I bought the boat new it freaked me out.. that vibration was just like what the hell... I read on these forums about it.. but when I added 400 more pounds my hole shot really went to hell and the boat was slow out of the hole. so I figured this year I would get a new prop... getting rid of the vib was just a plus... but I thought the same... is my shaft out of alignment.. .what is wrong? But with the ACME it all went away. I would get a 1235 if you board alot or just carry alot of wieght.. really makes things solid.:D

DG, your not really out of the woods yet. If your vibrations are on the top side you may indeed have some shaft issues from your little of course excursion. You might want to get a second prop from your dealer just to see if it is indeed the prop.

I wish it was that easy.

My dealer is 350km away so it will have to wait till my next service.

I notice no significant vibration with my OJ prop. Oh, now I'll really be looking for any little vibration. Darn it!.

I have prop cavitation noise with the OJ 466 when pulling out of the hole but goes away before I get on plane. My stock OJ 13.7 x 17.5 was noisey also but the 466 is more noticable. Interesting to hear the Acme 1235 is quiet. Also interesting to hear the 1235 pulls harder than the OJ of almost the same dia & pitch. Anyone else running the 1235 have the same results?

Lost a few mph on the top end but all we do is board or surf. RPM's run higher but you get on plane so much quicker, especially with ballast.

Yager97,

Sounds like you bought the OJ 466 which is correct for your boat.

I got the prop upgrade option on my '08 OBV which was an OJ. I took the boat in last week for 20hr service and asked them to lake test due to vibration & noise at 2,200 rpm. I picked the boat up this morning and they replaced the OJ with and ACME prop. The service department said that they had been having some problems with the OJ's on this boat. I'll llet you know if I see any big difference after this weekend.

Dropped the boat in earlier this afternoon with the new prop and immediately noticed a difference. The vibration was gone, much quieter ride and seemed to get up and move more quickly. I'm not sure what ACME prop this is, but will get the model from the dealer.
