So I am doing my 10 hour Oil change and can not find Penzoil Marine 15w40 oil anywhere. i did find the Penzoil Heavy Duty 15w40 Oil at wallmart that has all the API certs except instead of CI-4 it has CI-4 Plus. Will it be a good oil to use? Here is a link:

Rotella 15W40 will do fine.

Rotella is for diesels, not marine engines. I have used it a lot in diesel motors but I would not use in in my boat. Do a search for engine oil, you will find several threads and opinions.

I am using Mobil1, some people say not to use synthetic oil until you hit the 100 hr mark, but all three of my vettes came with Mobil one from the factory, and I run Mobil1 in everything I own.

I based my suggestion on the fact that EngineNut from Indmar says Rotella is fine.

Brian's procedure is absolutely correct. If I didn't know him better I might even be duped into thinking he has a clue about how to take care of an engine!!! Just kidding ... Brian is the real deal. Listen to him and you'll never go wrong. (You owe me a cold one Brian).

If you can't find the Pennzoil 15W40, a good alternate is Shell Rotella 15W40. It is available almost anywhere oil is sold... even Wal-Mart and Sam's Club carries it.

Bama,

I totally agree with you! I am a total Mobil One addict!!! Not only does the vette leave the factory with it so do the Porsches!!! I have used it in my BMW's for years, I had one engine get to 280k miles fine and I only rebuilt it so that I could "make it faster"! There is always that hype that it will not allow an engine to break in correctly, or that it could cause the oil seals to leak. I have never had either issue or known someone who has. I would suggest that if someone has a question to go to Mobil One online and get the contact information. I have calle them several times for information (what to put in the wifes VW Diesel TDI, etc.) and not only will you get someone you will also get answers to your questions!

04 outback, thanx I knew I had seen that some where I couldnt rember where though, I acually took the oil spec requirments into the NAPA store and read labels till I found something that meet the specs. Turns out it was the rotella. Glad to hear our engine nut agreed.

I know a lot of race teams use Royal Purple but I have never used it in a vehicle.

LoL
I was at Talladega last year and my RV Generator low oil light came on, the guy next to me worked for an ARCA team and he gave me a bottle to top it off. I changed the oil when I got home, to be safe.

I will retract my objection to Rotella based on Engine Nut's comments, but my personal preference is still Mobil1.

Royal Purple all the way! I use it on my turbo rx8.

What weight should I be using and when would it be a good time to switch to syntetic?

Mobil 1 or Royal Purple is what we use in all our Corvettes, Mustangs, Indmar engines.

When I had my Outback I used Rotella until I hit the 100hr mark, I then went to Mobile1. I use the Mobile 1 in all of my vehicles and motorcycles. I used Royal Purple about 10 years ago in my race bikes, the shop that sponsored me quit carrying it so I switched to Mobile1. I noticed that my transmission shifted much smoother and I didn't miss gears anymore. I've been a Mobile1 fan since and never had a problem. I will also switch my LSV over to Mobile1 after it hits the 100hr mark.

Recommended not to use Synthetic oil in these engines til you hit 100 hrs to allow all seals to seat properly prior to going synthetic..

I use Rotella in everything gas and diesel never had any problems. Any oil is better than no oil.
