How can this be prevented?

The scratches are very fine but there is a million of them and the boat is less than 1week old. :(

Can this be buffed out at the end of the season?

I wetsanded my entire gel coat and buffed it out. There is a discussion on here somewhere about how to do it and it contains links to another site with a very thorough explanation. Good luck! (Be careful).

make sure your buoys are not dirty. a little sand or dirt will do that.

Are you talking about mooring buoys or fenders? If your talking about fenders then put some fender cobers on them. See here (http://www.overtons.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?i=35687&pdesc=Fender_Boots_Fits_Fender_Sizes_5_5_x_20&cname=Fenders&aID=25B&merchID=1009&r=view)

This is a funny visual; do you have any pics, I'd like to see how you have them set up.

I second the hippity hops. Easy to inflate...no pumps needed. Easy to deflate and store.

Sorry don't have any pics but you just have a 2-3' tag line tied to them and loop the line around the cleats. Works great with docks and especially other boats out on a float. Very forgiving and 1/3 the price of the standard fenders. Be careful not to over inflate them because they get big! About 12-15" is all you need and you can get them with your favorite cartoon, scoobie doo, sponge bob, super friends, and my fav Lighnin Mcqueen (cause it matches the boat).
Best $18 I ever spent.

I reported him this morning. Surely they'll get rid of him soon.

Ok so that is great. Tomorrow i will go pick some up. I think i will also put rubber spikes on one so when i have it attached to my anchor line people will stay away from it when i am away from camp.

I use the Hull Hugr Contour Fender (in blue to match my boat):

(not sure if I bought them here or what...)

I use them in combination with these suction cup fender straps:

to be able to put the fenders anywhere I want. A bit pricey for the whole setup but a) it works incredibly well b) it looks so much better than the standard white round fenders and c) doesn't scratch my gel coat. :D
