Does anyone know what type/model number of the Kenwood in-dash receiver it takes to run the wired, dash mounted remote control? This is the stereo that came in the 2006 Outback V.

I have used 2 Kenwood decks since replacing the original and both have worked just fine. Can't remember the model number off the top of my head but it's an Kenwood Excelon with 3 pre-outs.

I just recently upgraded my factory Kenwood with the Kenwood Excelon KDC-X492. It works with the dash remote and the factory harness, so you just plug everything back in with no new harnesses. Plus the 492 has mp3 and usb inputs right on the face of the deck, which is a nice feature. It also has 3 preamp outputs if you want to upgrade your system later on. You can pick one up online for $160-$200.

I upgraded to the Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X692 and it works with the wired remote. It must have the separate blue wire labeled "Remo Cont." on the back. See the link below.
