I'm really glad that we opted for the snap on cover, its really nice. I've found that its nice to keep the bow cover on when there are just 2 or 3 of us on the boat, it keeps things dry up there.

Overall I'm so incredibly pleased with this boat; there isn't 1 thing that I'd want differently. We got about 8 hours on the boat over the weekend, and with about 6 decided to try boarding/skiing. I did 2 runs (mind you the water was about 55 degrees, and I only had a shorty wetsuit!) before I gave up, I need to dial in my new board, every time I tried to cut in I'd slam down hard on my face, which is not fun. I also had the ballast full, which I think made the wake too big for my beginner skill. Dad did a few slalom runs and was waaaay better than expected (he hasn't skied in 10+ years!) Lastly Jess hopped in the water on my board, as we forgot hers at home. She has never been on a wakeboard, but she DOMINATED IT! First pull was a bit too aggressive and we yanked the handle out of her hands. Second pull she popped right up and rode for quite a while. I think she did 5 or 6 runs overall and was AWESOME! For her we had the ballast empty, and she had NO WETSUIT! Just a bikini and a life jacket, lol!!! I’m definitely happy that I ordered the heater!

Ian - Very nice boat! Congratulations. The blue on blue turned out nice. Yes, the heater is a great thing. Hey, looks like a line hanging from the bow in the pic of you backing the boat. Better keep a knife and goggles handy. Nice slip, too. Are you planning on a lift? - Deerfield

The line is actually the anchor line, that's my dad just sitting in the drivers seat :) We are definately putting a tool box togather though, just in case!

I'd love to get a lift, however the marina does not allow them :(

ian - supersweet... glad to see you finally got the boat... my skepticism of your colour choice faded once i saw it on the water... really turned out nice... congrats!

also, i like how you've strapped your one bumper to the tower :)... i definitely think MOOMBA should have another cleat about halfway down the boat, because the front and rear cleats are too far apart to protect from dangerous docksides... had this experience the other day, and had to do exactly what you did... seems to work for now, but im really considering asking the dealer to mount two more cleats in a better position!

why did you take off the decals

I just like the way it looks without the decals. I've got a couple of black 'Roos' that I'm going to put on the side glass. I left the 'Moomba' on the back of the boat.

Awesome boat, very unique. Color combo looks much better than the colorizer.

Looks like the pile of stuff is now in the boat. Very impressive turn around with all the wiring and customization.

let me know how the ski rack works. I was thinking of getting another XTP to put on the lower bracket and widen for a ski and knee board
Nice job

Fortunately all the wiring was already in the boat, I just had to cut the speaker holes in the bow (EEEK!) and make my brackets for the sides in the back.

I got the wrong size inserts for the tower clamps, I should have the correct ones in the next couple of days, and then I'll post pics of the racks mounted.

Thanks for the compliments :)

Looks good, and I think a couple of black Roos will go along way. I also like the LSV set up on the speakers. I wish now I would have gotten the snap on covers as well, the full size storage cover is a b@#$% on my lift.

Say, how did you get your pics to fill the page? If you can answer this for me, I'll lay off the low hour pulls critizism, and the leaving a glass ski boat in the water one as well, ha ha.

Thanks! I put a black 'Roo' on the Left and Right side windows :)

I'm so happy with the snap on cover, we saw the full mooring cover on a boat at the dealer the day we ordered our boat and decided that the snap-on cover was well worth the extra money.

To post pics in a thread all you have to do is put around the images URL.

The 'low hour pulls' shouldn't have been too tough on the boat it was ~6 or 7 hours when we did it, and I weigh 120 pounds, Jess is 100, and we weren't using the ballast. Dad only got 2 slalom runs in.

No need to worry about that now, she's already got 20 hours on her :)

I'm not too excited about leaving the boat in the water either, but given the choice between leaving it in the water, or only using it on the weekends ; I'll take leaving it in the water and going out every day every single time!!! :D

Ian, My boat is on the lift and if I could, I would ski every day as well, but seeing as we just got like 9 inches of rain in like 15 hrs and every freakin' dam in WI is about to burst we won't be skiing for a while. The water is getting so high that I'm afriad my boat will float off of the lift soon. The only thing that will keep if from floating away is the windshield won't clear the Canopy frame!

Oh yeah and more sever thunder storms tonight!!

On the picture thing, I'm slow, step by step if you don't mind

Sled,

That sucks, our water is high but not that high. WOW...

Can your lift go any higher?

I went ou last night first ski of the year, was calm and nice, my new Obriens syncho skied great at 32 mph. A little squirly in the straights, may have the bindings too far back.but tracked great with hard cuts.

The roos will look great once you get to the boat, hope it eases up soon.

Ian, got any new pics of the lip boating racks and how do you like them? I am down to buying any extra XTP board moomba factory rack (one set ) or a lip rack to (widen for my ski and knee board)

I don't have any pics of the ski rack installed, I just got the standard mount on that (no swivel) but its also very nice. If I go out there tonight I'll snap some pics of it.

The swivel is really nice, doesn't seem to rattle or anything, and I really like the quick release, which allows me to take the racks off the boat when its docked, and litterally takes 3 seconds. For the price you can't beat 'em!

Sled, do you at least have a rope tied from the boat to shore just in case, i watched a pontoon go down that temporary "river" on the news , it had its snap on cover and motor was tilted up--im sure it just floated off its lift.

Sled491

Thanks for the concern guys, and thanks Ian for the link. I took my boat off the lift last night and put it on the trailer for now. Water was so high I almost couldn't get it out from under the canopy frame. In fact it was soo high I floated the boat off forward! To load on the trailer, again with the ridiculous water Renee drove the boat over the trailer, then I pulled forward slowly and the boat settled right down on the trialer perfectly. It was crazy.

JV, I could raise the legs of the lift, but wouldn't do me much good as my piers are almost a foot and a half under water so I had to remove all the panels so they wouldn't float away. I'd have to swim to the lift to get my boat. Besides all lakes are slow no wake right now.

One of my neighbours dropped buy, and later I stopped at another neighbours place where there was a gathering of fellow islanders. We all figure it will be at least July before we can ski on our lake. In fact we are to get more rain SUnday and Monday! If this doesn't stop soon our summer might be wiped out.

I saw guys fishing from there ski boats last night, just to be out. I guess I'll go diving today.

Sled - Drove through the Chain o Lakes last night. Water level is so high its moved into the parking lots.

With respect to other conditions, the ski shows on Lake Mary and Lake Delton are shut down. Lake Mary is a "no wake zone" due to the high water level. Lake Delton no longer exists. Unable to contain the water pressure, retaining wall burst and the lake emptied like a bathtub. Ski jumps now sit on the lake bed.

Check out the YouTube video of Lake Delton emptying out and taking houses with it. Freeky. - Deerfield

you are very lucky. I am on the Lower Fox down here and with the dams open full tilt they are saying roughly monday for the river to crest. If the dam up your way in New munster goes as they think the devastation to the Chain and surrounding areas will be unbelieveable.
Unfortunately my LS got stuck when they closed the lower river. I dont have a canopy and I
am just starting to float slightly off the bunks. I have 2 main lines to shore and 5 anchors out
to keep it in place. I wake up in the middle of the night and go out back to check it.My bubby has an airdock and I think its going to be a problem soon as it wants to float over his dock.I was checking our local launches about 1/2 a mile away and they are pretty useless and the amout of debris flying down the waterway really sucks. nothing like seeing trees blasting down the river I still not sure about risking a pull out with the current, debris and launches looking so bad. I am thinking we may not be back on the water at this rate until mid or late July at the earliest or later god forbid that dam goes. Good Luck

Chris, that is just awful. I tell you that everynight I would wake up 3 or 4 times thinking about my boat. I would leave my home at 5 in the morning to drive out and check it and again after work and I would stay until 9 or 10 at night. Finally with the call for rain again for this weekend I could't take it any more and pulled her out. I finally got some sleep last night even though it rained again.

Chris I'm not sure how far apart we are, but I have a huge Dodge Diesel and no fear of driving it in the water. My wife and I would gladly come down and help out a fellow Moomba owner, there has to be a way!

Ian sorry for the brief hijack of the thread great looking boat.

Sled thanks for the offer my neighbor with the bobbing airdock has a couple of
giant work trucks so I am covered . I am lucky as I can look out the back door and
see it as I am on the water but that has me worried as they are saying at least another
foot or so to crest sometime the middle of the coming week. If it comes up another foot or
so I am more worried about the folks across the river and down river as I still have another 5 -6 feet up but the way the rain and water keeps going its hard to tell. As much as I would like to pull it out I am more afraid of the current floating and jack knifeing the trailer or the possiblity of something going wrong at the launch or the trip there. As much as I love my boat somedays way more than my teenagers it can be replaced (LSV I can say it my LS cant hear me or see me type this) but people cant. Again thanks

She can get dirty with the best of us. Go camping and sleep in a tent and sleeping bag, comes home, takes a shower, gets all dolled up and you would never know. I knew she was the one when I took her skiing for the very first time. She is a Keeper.

I left the sticker on the transom, but peeled off all the others, and added the black 'Roos' to the side glass. The lake we are on is 75% tournament boats; lots of Moomba's, Supras, Malibus, and Mastercrafts. I've had so many people cruise up to us and say "What kind of boat is that? It looks amazing, did you paint it yourself?" and things like that. I like the mystery, it gives people a reason to introduce themselves, and it gives me an excuse to brag about my boat :)

It seems to work fine. I was considering mounting it under the drivers side dash area, but I didn't want to go through the extra hassle. The box fits perfectly in the area on the passengers side, and the sound is good. When we anchor I pop up the front cushion, and sometimes leave the spotter seat hinged cushion open a little to get the best sound.

Last week I took the boat on vacation to Grand Bend, Canada which is on Lake Huron. We had an absolute blast! We'd wake up in the morning and go out on the glass like lake, which is huge. Wakeboarding without having to turn is AMAZING! Here are a few pics of the boat from the trip.

In her home for the week at the Grand Bend marina. The docks are excessively tall, even for the big boats. My poor little Outback disappeared in that slip!

I took these one evening when I thought the sky looked cool. The water was super choppy, but they came out pretty decent I think.

Well, its been a while since my last update. She has just about 90 hours now!

This weekend I took the boat up to Northern Michigan; Torch Lake specifically. The water was beautiful, but the weather wasn't. Of the 4 days I was there I had about 6 hours of boat-able water. But, the (new) GF has a cottage on the water with a boat lift, so I couldn't pass it up!

Anyway, since I've got the boat in my driveway (hopefully going back in the water tomorrow!) I added a few small goodies I've had sitting here waiting for a rainy day.

Here are some pics;
The Newt Shooter binding lube dispenser. I was getting sick of having to fumble around looking for the small bottle all the time, so this was the perfect solution!

When I bought all of my stereo stuff I ordered 2 remotes, one for the drivers area, and one for the transom. I'm glad I didn't install the 2nd remote right away, because I really doubt that I would have used it much on the transom. Instead I opted to put it in a more user-friendly area;

I like both.
And the new GF sounds great! (Cottage, lake, etc..)
JesseC put a remote in the bow section for his wife/dj to control..
Pretty good idea..
90 hrs is impressive in your part of the country~! I have not put 90 on mine this year and I started using it in March.

Hey, where did you get the boot juice squiter? Is it just a hand pump or does it have a battery hook up, now that would be cool.

I got it from buywake.com

It's just a manual pump, but battery powered would be cool!

Last night I finished up wiring the 2nd remote, and added a little more 'bling'. I had 3 of the Costco LED light bars left over, so I installed 2 up in the bow. I've got 1 more left, can't decide where to put it.

All lit up;

I don't remember if I posted any of the lights installed under the dash, so here is how that looks;

^^Disregard the wire from the depth sounder, I was messing around with the location and didn't tie up the wires before I snapped the pic.

I got a new toy today!

I had saw this mirror on QuickSilver's MasterCraft X-Star at a local wake contest and decided I had to have one. When I started poking around the MC circles I've found that new they are ~$300 and used around $200, which I find to be a ton of cash to put out for just a mirror.

I did a little more digging and found the CIPA part number and had my buddy at WestMarine order it up, and it came in this week. I got it for $89, wooooooohoooo!

Now I need to get a tower mirror arm so I can put it on the boat. I'm thinking about painting the backside to match the boat - we'll see...

The slips are fairly narrow (like 8' 6") so I probably wouldn't be able to fit one. I guess I never really directly inquired about putting in a lift because of that reason.

Ian did you ever get a mirror arm? I'm looking for one and can't find one that i like that fits our towers.

I haven't, yet. To be honest I haven't started looking, lol. I'll probably get something from eBay - I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a solid aluminium arm.

WOOOHOOOOO! Putting the boat in the water today! I might might be crazy enough to go for a set too, we'll see. Last time I was at the lake (last week) the water was like 4-45 degrees.

Dude, 2 words, "Dry Suit".

I'll be thinking about you guys up North while at Disney in 80 degree weather. PS the cable park in Orlando is having a big tournament/exhibit next weekend.

I'm not a big fan of dry suits. When I rode last fall we had water temps of low 50's, so I'm not too far off from that, and the air temp is much higher. My hope is to go for a dock start, and drop at the beach, lol.

We were just down in Orlando 2 weeks ago, I took a few lessons at Otwon Watersports which was AWESOME. We were there for the weekend of the Windermere Wake Fest, which had just about every pro I could think of, it was a graet weekend.

Why don't you like dry suits? Even the hard core scuba guys I know are all switching to dry suits, and trust me with scuba it's a 2k investment not a 300 dollar investment. I got one for skiing, way easier to put on and you come out just as dry and warm as you went in.

Ian - I hear, ya. If I'm skiing, I gotta get wet. That's why they call it water skiing. Wearing a dry suit somehow seems like an altered state. 'Course maybe I'd change my mind if I tried one. In any case, my Outback's got a heater to warm me up. - Deerfield

I'm not really sure how I feel about the non-matching carpet; on one hand I don't like it because it doesn't match. On the other hand I do like it because it will never look dirty, and its in a 'high traffic' area.

Hey how did you fit that in there with the heater ven tright there?

ian ashton
04-23-2009, 05:38 PM
I unscrewed the heater vent and plan to move it to the side. I just have to stop by Lowes or Home Depot to pick up some tube, as the factory stuff is cut to fit and a touch too short. Right now its just sitting behind.

I added a 'dome light' to my tower yesterday. I didn't stay out late enough to get an illuminated pic, but this is the same LED that I was playing with for underwater (which I did get a change to test, and its suprisingly bright even in the merky water.)

Here are some pics of what I did.

Before:

After:
https://forum.moomba.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2473&stc=1&d=1240860227

Basically I just tapped into the anchor light. I am going to install a small waterproof switch so I can control the lights independantly from the top of the tower. Once I get the switch in I'll tuck or do something different with the wires.
