Was wondering what oil filters and oil people are using. The Pennzoil filter recommended by Indmar does not rate well (see http://people.msoe.edu/~yoderw/oilfilterstudy/oilfilters.html ).

is everyone using geniune indmar parts (e.g. thermostat, alternator belt) or have you been going with another manufacturer?

Trying to stay on top of these items and avoid paying the dealer the $300 for what essentially is an oil change at year's end.

I've been using a Delco PF1218 oil filter,and Royal Purple 15W40 synthetic oil.280 hours on my 03 LS and it runs like a dream.

I use the Purolator filter on my Indmar Assault 325 EFI, but these are the filters you can use :

I bought the WIX which was highly rated and I've gone to the Amsoil synthetic 15w40. Impellor from aftermarket supplier

I am using the Rotella, If you read the owners manual it has the oil ratings or mil specs on it and I matched them up with oil at the NAPA store The Rotella had all of them and then some! Seems to be doing a good job so far but only have a few oil changes on the boat.

I am running the extended AC PF1218 as well. Combining that with Mobil 1 10w30 Extended performance.

The Napa Gold and Wix are the same and by far the best option on that list. Fram being the worst. Ive seen and heard horror stories with the Fram filters and would never use one on anything I own.

List of Oil Filter, Fuel Filter, fluids, packing rope size (recent topic!), etc... One for DD's and one for V-Drives...

OF COURSE, we'll need a disclaimer stating... verify with manual, etc.. don't just trust us and put the wrong spark plug in...

Hey B, doesnt mean anything really as there not the same anymore but were never really good to begin with. Just cut open a wix/napa gold/baldwin (all the same filters) and then a fram and you'll see the differance. Not trying to start anything of course but just dont want to see anyone use a crappy product when for the same price they can get a good one. I own and have owned high performance Jets for many years and used to actually use the HP series Frams when I first started out in performance boats. I still frequent performance boat sites Heres a link from one of them talking about the fram filters and I could come up with 1/2 a dozen more just like it. Again just trying to educate people not start anything, after all thats partly what this site is here for right? :)

Most peeps are 'brand' oriented for whatever reason, real or imagined. I've had good success with what I've used so the notion of 'go with what you know' works for me. And I appreciate the attempted education no doubt.

I've been using Fram oil filters exclusively for all my vehicles and boats for 20+ years and have never had a filter related problem. Can't speak for racing applications though.

It is my understanding that the difference between marine grade oil and automobile oil is the additives that help the engine with infrequent use (e.g. 1 week between starts).

Given marine oil is hard to come by (at least for me in the Minnesota/Wisconsin market) -- has anyone tried an additive to keep the oil from settling as fast as auto oil?

LSV, I just use synthetic. As I've stated before, Amsoil synthetic is diesel/marine certified. Amsoil or as many others have stated Mobil One synthetic are great choices. If these are a little spendy for you, Walmart usually sells at least one of the recommended oils. Hope this helps

napa sells amsoil or atleast the one by my house does
