Rear sacks / compartment question

What do you guys do as far as filling the rear sacks and stowing gear? Do you remove all the gear or just leave it on top? I'm talking vests, ropes, tubes, towels, etc.

Only had my boat out twice so far, but I've been removing the gear. I am eventually going to either build some kind of shelf above it, or maybe a net. It needs to be easily removable in case I need to get under it. Has anyone done something like that? I dont think I can drill into the back or side wall, so the shelf idea would require some kind of legs around the ballast.

we just leave the stuff on top of the bags. usually pull the wet stuff out to dry and we leave the storage doors open. we have not noticed any issues with the bags filling from the weight of stuff on top of them.

i have thought about a shelf type thing, i would probably do something out of pvc. would be interested to see what other ideas out there are.

The wife thought of the shelf thing yesterday as well. I think i'm going to look into that using seaboard or something like it that's lightweight but strong.

Isn't it Fly High who makes the bags? I'm trying to figure out the full demensions on them. Anyone know?

We have room for vests, ropes and wakeskate on top with the sacks full.

If your bags are stock, then they should be 10x16x70 and are rated at 400 lbs full. There should be some numbers on one end of the bag and the last six #s should be 101670. Your front bag is the same size.

Yes, I put all those things on top of the bag while we are out on the water and there's never been an issue. What exactly is your concern? I take everything out except the bags and hang them up when I get home. I sometimes will take the bags out too if the carpet is real wet and then run a fan in there.

I carry tubes for the kids and such and those suckers can weigh when you pull them out wet, even after you drained all the water out of the cover! It also occured that it might stress the pumps a bit if a bunch of weight is on them.

I've always emptied the boats after use to dry stuff out as well, leave seat bases off, etc. I even place large moisture bags in the boat before covering.

I wouldn't recommend putting a ton of weight on top of the bags but a few life vests, ropes, towels, etc. are no problem at all. I have a huge three seater tube that must weigh 50 lbs empty (& dry) and I don't put that on top of the bags.

My 06 came with 16x16x30 (275#) bags and those were nice because they didn't take up the whole length of the compartment so I can put a cooler or picnic basket in front of them. I've upgraded to the 07 bags like yours and they are long!

Ideally, I would buy a pair of the X2 bags (http://www.wakeside.com/product/boat/ballast/ballast_bags/fly+high+pro+x+series+mastercraft+x2+rear+sac.do) which measure 18x20x32 and weigh 455 lbs. So you get the weight in a very short bag so you have room to put heavy stuff in front of the bags. But they also cost $190 each.

the ProX bags are super strong, I've walked all over mine while they were full and never had a problem. I also weigh 200lbs. I've had 3 people sit on top of my 750lb bag, you cant hurt these bags.

I have the 400 lb V-drive bags in my 05 LSV with room to spare. Considered the X2 bags but couldn't justify 2X the price. Got some wet location rubber mat with an open grate like design and cut to fit the rear compartments that keeps the bags up off the carpet and allows air to circulate.

I took atv cargo nets and mounted them to the top of the compartment, when the bags are full every thing floats on the nets above them and when empty or just crusing you can take down the nets and use the compartment, I got the boat out of storage and its at home so I will try and get some photos to poast today.

Okay so ...... Ran home and snaped some photos, First Cargo nets in the rear locker and second The Jump seat/Play pen. I have not gotten it hooked up yet but there is a second 400lb bag that fills off the ski locker bag that goes under the Jump seat

Did you built that play pen yourself? or is that the factory jump seat? I like it, I wouldnt mind having one of those in my lsv.

I built it my self, Sea board, aluminum frame and some fabric from the dealer.Its kinda nice to shut the wind out and to still have the play pen up front.

I am up for the shelf idea! I have often thought of some way to hang a shelf. from top..
Of course, a molded tray would be great. I think Malibus have a tray over the motor for storage... I think they have split/gullwing doors instead of 3..

the other design I thought of was more like a table that sits over the sacs...
might be easy...

I set ropes, life vests, etc on top.. sometimes my surfboard, but it is light

Just curious.... what are the two "buttons" located in the fiberglass just to the left of your ignition?

Csmsk, Wow you had to really study the photos..... I had to go look at the photots,and see myself, The buttons are stainless screws which are part of a mount for a switch box just behind the cornerof the fiber glass for light bar( front and rear), led lights in the boat and on the tower.

Thats some awesome work! I really like it, thats the one thing I wish the lsv had. I may have to look into doing that at some point.

Thanx Miller, It was not as bad as I had thought to build, I would do it a little diffrent on the second go around. I had not seen how the bow filler cushions went in intel after I had built mine. I would change it a little, Mine is all an inverted truss system( I have a couple big guys 300+) who walk across it no problem. The whole section slides out the rear to remove it. Its not to bad for weight just kinda awkard because of size.

Let me start this off by saying I have 4 kids. So we just got a four seater tube that I sweat to only use when the water is choppy. Good news is they all love to wake board! None the less I have the same issue/concern about the back ballast. The Tube is huge and I don't want it to sit on the bag. So... I put two straps across that the tube rests on. Pretty simple and clean, if I need more space I can just unbuckle and the straps are out of my way. Below are some photos.
