Steering cable part ####

Happy New Year everyone

Finally got to test drive the 04 OB I bought.(awesome)
The only issue is stiff steering.
Which seems normal for the age of the boat
I've been reading the forums religiously.

I can't read the p/n on the teleflex cable it is abrased.
But haven't been able to locate a part number on the forums
I've read there is an upgraded cable availible.
Is this part number different or do you get the upgrade with the stock number
If someone has part number info and supplier info for a o4 Outback :?: (online is good)
It would be much appreciated.

Not sure if it is the same, but her is the infor on the one I put in my 02 LSV.

The part number on the one the dealer sold me was SSC13418 it is described on the box as: Back MT SGL Rack CABLE 18.

Through the dealer it was 160 plus tax.

I have a 04 Outback DD
I think you have a LSV are they the same cable.(interchangeable) and is it the improved cable p/n if I order the p/n you quoted :?:
I also read on a post there are stainless steel cables available.
How do you cross reference this and hook up with a better cable
Or does it work on length and all you need are the right connecting ends. :?:
Any input would be helpfull.

I was told that the end of the cable was modified to try and resist sitting in the water. The "old" style is not available. The manufacturer changed the seal design, but the part number stayed the same. According to the box, the cable I installed is 18 ft long. I would assume that they are the same. Give Brian raymond a call at skiers choice. He could confirm this for you.

When you replace the cable remember to turn the steering wheel in the direction that makes the cable as short as possible on the stern end. I forgot to do this and it took three of us to colapse the cable to get it around the 90 degree turn at the helm. Also tie a string to the end of the cable to help "fish" it back through the helm. It makes it MUCH easier!!

Its all done now back to power steering.
Too bad your pics and previous post on replacement didn't carry over to the new format

Best advice is to collapse the old cable all the way before fishing it out and wire the knew one closed before fishing it through.

I also own a 2004 Moomba outback. My steering is hard now so I guess I will be replacing my cables. Where did you buy yours? What was the serial number? Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.
