Hi. I've put about 18 hours on my new Outback that came with 0.3 hours on it.

Do you think it's using too much gas? It has a 28 gallon tank which works out to 105 litres. I filled it up at 14.2 hours and then put 86 litres in at 18.8 hours.

That works out to 86 L/4.6 hours or 18.7 L/hr or about 5 gallons/hour or about 5 hours on a full tank.

I spend about 70% of the time pulling skiers and 30% of the time with wakeboarders.

Does that seem like a lot of gas? Will it get better as the engine breaks in?

Comments please.

Thanks!

Laz

Yep, that's about right.
.
But, you know, I've never really sat down and figured gas usage. It's a boat, and typically boats do not get good mileage.

I found some similar results on the boat test website for similar boats.

My outback uses a bit more gas than the 175hp I/O that it replaced but popping up with a double booted slalom is priceless.

It goes 30mph at 3200 rpm which I think is also about right and WOT takes it up to 4800 rpm and 45mph.

I'm sure enjoying this boat.

Actually my 07 Outback keeps getting better as I get more time on the hour meter. I just hit 85 hours. It seemed to me like my Outback was a little thirsty until it hit around 25 hours.

I actually think its very efficient considering the demands I place on it.

I also noticed it started to loosen up and run better at just over 20 hours too. Others I have talked to say the same thing.

I know one thing for sure.............its MUCH more efficient than a carburated boat. The EFI is all the difference IMHO.

I have a 2004 Mobius LS that seems to suck way too much fuel, like you can see unburnt fuel pooling around the back of the boat and smell the gas. :?

I figure it takes about $15-20 an hour to run the LSV at 3.00 a gallon. If you load 10 people in the boat the burn rate goes up even more.
