Took Friday off to take my brother out on the boat last week. Drove all the way there and sat it in the water and it would not start. It sounded like it wanted to, sprayed some ether in to the spark arrestor and it started but died and also sounded rough. It usually smells of fuel in engine bay so im thinking fuel filter or fuel pump. I would've changed the filter then and there but I couldnt because I forgot my tools...
Any ideas?

On the gas side:
- Bad gas or filter
- Bad fuel pressure
There are other items like the kill switch on the throttle / safety lanyard?
So your boat will crank, but not start - as in the batteries are charged enough and the starter is engaging?

2008 325 Assault - carb or injected?
Ether runs rough all the time. Sounds like a fuel issue for sure if it did run on ether.

2008 is injected (assuming it's stock). My previous boat was the had the 2007 injected motor.

Checked the lanyard twice. Batts are charged it started a couple times with ether.
I usually smell gas in the engine compartment and no smell of gas this time. I'll try a filter this weekend. After that im unsure what to do as im seeing the fuel pump being discontinued.

When I owned my 2007 (325 motor), I think I changed that specific part 2x during my ownership - once when I purchased the boat b/c I did not have any service history and the other years later after I probably put 150-200 hours on it. Cheap part to replace and good place to start.

This could be the problem for sure. The bulletin should read "After we discovered we ordered a large quantity of un-returnable and inadequately sized fuel filters on this model, we decided to add a second one in a hidden location to ease our shame" LOL!

My tractor has 2 fuel filters that I had to find the hard way. I had justt done the full service and had maybe 10hrs since then amd it died in the yard and wouldn't start. Found out there was a cheap $3 inline along the frame rail that had 300hrs of use on it and I never knew it was there. 5 minutes fixed and back to normal.
I hope this is the same fix you have going on.

I had a Supra tech tell me many years ago, they got many easy fixes b/c of:
- bad gas and not changing that fuel filter
- owners not keeping a good tune - bad distributor caps

Wait there's another filter besides the one under the floor? I just bought 3 of these barbed filters from O'Reillys.
