:? :P Who else has garage problems? New boat is awesome, the feeling I have about it taking 3 people to manipulate the boat to get it in a garage NOT HAPPY... any thoughts on driveway in summer and garage in winter storage...

thanks

GSI - I bought one of those 4 wall tarp covers for the summer. Costco has a pretty nice one (10X20) with lots of ventilation $169. The only pain is you have to fold the tower. The boat will go in the garage for the winter.

I've seen people buy a couple sets of the auto dollys like tow truck drivers put under the wheels of parked cars to manuever them out of tight spots. If your big problem is being able to move the boat around in the garage because you have a tandem axle trailer they would help a lot. Here's what I'm talking about http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Browse/tf-Browse/s-10101/N-111+10201+600017527/c-10101

My driveway is WAY too steep to even get my boat in the drive... I tried once and the prop guard carved into the street... Boat storage for me. I hate the $100 / mo expense but I don't worry about it any....

Look at this!!! Does it look like this? Also, someone in here gave me this idea. This keeps the Tower off the cover. Find some studs in the ceiling, put in some hooks, and tie it up with bungie cords.

I HAD garage problems. I had to tear out a wall, run electrical outlets and install a warn winch into the concrete! My driveway is steep and contains a 14 foot dropoff. It is a pain to put the boat in and out, but I only use it for winter storage. I have a dry slot at the marina during the summer.

Check out the process I have to go through to load the boat in and out!!!

Tazz,

I've done the same thing from day 1 but I use motorcycle tie downs (already had them, no longer have a bike), one on each hook. One of them easily holds the weight of the tower but I like to use two for redundancy. I would not feel comfortable using bungee cords (does yours have those plastic hooks??). Visualize for a minute what would happen if the bungees failed ...

Just my two cents.

Regarding the tower sitting on the cove is this just with the LSV's. Reason I ask is that I have an 07 XLV and the tower doesn't sit on the cover when folded down. Unless I'm folding the tower wrong.

Jesse,

I enjoyed the pictures. I was thinking if a quad with a hitch or a powered dolly would have been easier. Was there some side movement you had to do to get the boat in?

I grew up in the RV business, and we hand moved trailers a good bit on the lot. Had a little dolly with a hitch head on it. Had big rubber tires, so the tongue could be managed a lot easier than the little hard plastic jack wheel was.

Make sure you get one with a greater capacity than the recommended tongue weight.

My wife and I move the outback around in the driveway (3 car wide) by hand when we are mowing/working.

Zabooda,
I thought about the powered dolly idea, but after we jack knife the boat in the drivaway, it is sitting on about a 7-10 degree downward slope that ends about 8 feet in front of the boat. The end being a 14 foot drop off to the neighbors yard. If the quad or dolly lost traction, I would have 34k$ sitting upside down on the neighbors house!!! Besided that the winch was cheapest!

Winch - 300 Dollars
Chocks - 45 Dollars (rated to hold a fire truck on a 13 degree grade)
Massivley over engineered yet the safest option....priceless. I really love my boat!!!

I gotcha. I now have a better idea of where that drop off is. Yikes!!

bradcraig,

On the 06 and 07 LSV's, the tower folds to the rear and there is nothing for it to rest on other than the upholstery (or the cover if it's on). Don't know what the set up is on the XLV but obviously, you don't have the same issue that we do. Lucky you. :)

glad to see i'm not the only one with probs... the tower should have came with a fiberglass wedge with a notch cut out to hold the tower up off the floor, most dealers forget to give them out, i had to remind my dealer to get me one and so did a friend of mine with a 2006 LSV... I guess i should just be happy she is home and does fit in garage just not easily

So is it not a good idea to store in the driveway with the cover on alone. Do I really need to get that 10x20 tent?

Thanks in advance

It will amaze you what the magnetic force of a bird dropping on or near a nice boat cover is! Last Summer I kept my boat outside at my folks place with the "nice" cover on the boat plus an eBay special plastic tarp I used to keep the "nice" cover clean. It worked really well.

Pike,

There are a lot of us that cannot garage the boats - we do use 2 covers.

I have not seen one for a 24' retail, but I know they exist, my dealer has them.

Easiest $50 I've spent.

Ditto!

I bought one for the outback from Walmart.
It covers both the bow and cockpit covers.
Keeps water from running down off the windshield under the bow cover or through the tower cutouts in the cockpit cover.
It also comes down past the rub rails, so the dirty marks that are normally seen coming from the snaps, so cleaner too.
As said, best $$$ spent. A cover to cover my cover.

Here is one helatios tarp. I used this one last year because it is HUGE!! It covers the tongue of the trailer, the tower, the trailer tires, swim platform and a quarter of the driveway!!!! We just tucked it all into the trailer and the boat looked like a big blue blob with tires. It was cheap too. It made it through the entire summer and still has some use left.

There are 5 of them on ebay. Just search for:
