Oh yeah, the blue pops. He has a beautiful Max! I have the Ultra blue flake on my Supra. I think that’s the color of his Max. I just commented about the SV because I know he demod one and really likes it.

Yup it’s ultra blue flake and definitely pop on the water! As much as I love my Max I’d love to upgrade into the SV. It is an amazing boat! My dialed in wave is a bit larger and cleaner, but it doesn’t have the same level of push and firmness the SV had. It’s a really nice boat!

The weather is WI has been odd this spring/early summer. Rain every other day, warm, cold..haven’t been using the boat..So instead we went racing this past weekend..Half the day was nice and sunny, the other have cloudy and windy..

Prepping for the season and was going for another upgrade to the stiffening of the engine panels….. have a look at what the panels look like before I stiffen up the lower portion….

Will be drilling and bolting the existing angle iron through the panel as well as running some additional angle iron perpendicular to the existing and parallel to, and as close to the channel where the panel sits on the bottom

I ran it to just above where it fits into the track and bolted it about 2" from the end. Though not nearly as often, the dang thing still pops out on a really hot day! That poly will flex right at the bottom. Crazy!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240611/180a537f11958c57b8d2bee5f5fe97aa.jpg

I did the exact thing you are.....every panel including the back. I was so over a panel bending and some popping that I just said $#$% it. and did all of them. Excited to see how they work out. I also fabricated 4 "L" brackets for the rear channels on the inside. I think mine take a lot of abuse because they are not always full and the sloshing of the bags does a number on them. That's the only thing I can think of. Hope it works out!

Holdmybeer

The panel popping is more from the bottom track not being tall enough. If you can replace those with taller c-channel it will help a lot.

Mine don't pop in my mojo but my 1300's are long and end up tucking under the seat space instead of getting fat wide and popping panels.

Dukabor

Thanks for the thoughts and ideas gents…..

I have a few things working against me here…. Mostly the lead ballast under the rear bags which brings the bags up higher and potentially putting even more pressure on the panels….

That being said my panels popped with stock bags and no lead, and of course that just continued with the larger bags and ballast….

I am going to not only strengthen up the bottom of the panels with some additional angle iron, but will also devise something for the lower channel the panels sit in, I am debating on a taller channel the whole length or several L brackets along it….

Follow along for the journey….

Of course, I was going to let the ideas percolate while I swapped out my stock board racks (bungees) to the Roswell Triton 2’s I bought, and that has devolved into a nightmare with 5 of the 8 bolts coming out “easily”, while 2 rounded heads and one snapped off the 5/32 hex tool inside of it, and that was after heating them up significantly to lessen the effect of the thread locker…..

Thankfully the weather is not great so I have some time to get this done but to some up this day in a word i would say….

FFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Good thing I enjoy this stuff !

I know all to well the bolts on the board racks.
Roswell uses red loctite on steroids. I changed mine out to socket caps instead of button heads. I had to drill 2 of them when swapping tines and heat and vise grip the remaining piece out. What I nightmare, but it was winter sso just a reason to be in the shop.

Dukabor
06-11-2024, 09:01 PM
Well…. I feel like I accomplished something today….

Yes, I had to drill the remaining three bolts out, and will look to replace that countersunk Allen head hardware with something less prone to this….

Usually getting them heated up with a torch will loosen up that loctite but these last three were a pain in the ass…. Though just to give me the middle finger, once i drilled them out 2 of the 3 unscrewed by hand and the last one needed more heat persuasion

And since I have already been drilling away, I may try one more thing on the board racks…. The Moombas have two positions for the board racks, outside the boat and then inside the boat while the Supras (and others) have a third ‘middle’ position…. That middle position allows for the racks to be more ‘parallel’ to the boat, and less in the way in this neutral position (assuming there are no boards in them)…. Will only require one hole to be drilled on the bottom of the bracket (circled in red below)

I’ve probably confused the heck out of everyone with that description…

That is why I used blue loctite on my racks when I installed them lol. But hey, you got it done and ready for the Tritons! I also agree with the others in the lower channel is the biggest culprit in letting the panels flex out of the channel. Beefing up the panels I’m sure helps but while you’re at it I’d go ahead and beef up the track.

The old school pin pull swivel racks has 3 positions like the Supras. The mag swivels like you have only have the 2 positions but not sure if just drilling a hole will allow this. If the pin just drops in then you should be able to jist drill and go. If it doesn't work it's a $250 mistake, just giving you a heads up.

I have found a potential hurdle in my board rack plan….

While the pin will drop in to hold the rack in that ‘middle’ position, it will not fully drop in and ‘lock’ in place without some additional modifications…

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20240612/d651126fa7da4a8e3a5ff4d9b95c9ac8.jpg

In the photo you can see on the upper portion where it has an additional slot that allows the pin to full drop…. I will examine further but I think the plan will require more machining to have it fully drop into place….

I may (at this point) cut my losses and move onto just installing the new board racks, finish up the engine panels (very necessary) and then jump into the new horn (Hornblasters Sniper) install…. Followed by the new flag pole holders and sunshade…. Yes, I know… I tend to always have a few projects on the go….

Be interested to see what you do on this one. I’ve been thinking about taking the horn apart and just leaving the cover on the outside then mounting a single air horn behind the hull to blow thru the factory hole. Factory horn isn’t loud enough for anyone to even hear it and sounds terrible

I have the same issues with the stock horn as you do…. If it was ever truly needed as a warning signal it would simply not suffice…. And bot the sound of it makes me feel like I want to crawl under the helm ha ha

https://hornblasters.com/en-ca/products/sniper-electric-horn

Thats the link to the sniper and you can get a sound demo, and the plan is to mount in the stock location, remove the stock horn and leave the cover on as you stated, though it may be a pain to get to…. My dealer tells me the horn gets direct power and does not run through the PDM, so hopefully I will get enough power suppled to just use the existing wires and stock horn button….

The sniper is pretty compact (see pic for reference and I feel it will fit there, if not, my secondary location is under the helm, in either spot it should be able to use the hull to deepen the tone a little and be able to truly serve its purpose as a warning….. a warning that the party has arrived !!

The horn conversation is funny! When we first demoed and bought our Moomba, my wife said that sure is a wimpy horn for such a big boat, and the salesman actually got sort of offended by it. But it is true, that factory horn sounds like something on a moped.

Thanks! Now I just have to dial in the wave. I'm reading the 50 page thread on the Flow and it's already upgraded to WM bags in the rear and about 800# of lead. It should just be a matter of me learning the system as it surfed great on our water test with the dealer driving. I just didn't catch where he had everything set and we only surfed for like 20 minutes last weekend for the first time. Wave felt kind of flat and lacked some push. It feels close to being great though!

You can go into setting and increase it. I set mine at 9.5. Distribute your lead such that with all ballast full and your crew in their different seating configurations, the boat doesn't drop naturally below 9 degrees at surf speed you should be good. Surf speed around 11.5mph. If you switch sides often distribution lead so roll is close to zero on regular side which will make it easier for the boat to achieve 4+ degrees goofie side. Factor tab settings are pretty good at 60/70 regular/goofie. I find depending on conditions you can decrease these settings a bit and get more push. Center plate 0-25. Higher pitch setting definitely increases height and push but increases engine rpm and decreases visibility. If you regularly surf regular, you can shift lead to help increase negative roll for further fine tuning.

Started our year with a different kind of boating. A week on this little thing to celebrate my daughter's college graduation.

Almost 4 football fields long, 18 stories high. Our first cruise - it was like walking into a combination of a mall and amusement park. And this beast cruises at 24mph! We were on the 9th floor midship. So basically right in the middle of everything.

Then back to reality. Trying to get a new alternator in before our first "real" trip of the year. They make it so easy to get to... Then there's the poor timing on my part. $230 worth of parts and paying $200 for express shipping to make sure we're ready to go...

It always appears to me those boats are too top-heavy.

agreed!! I have always wondered how you can have 20 stories of crap and seems that the boat is only a few stories underwater.
physics was never my best subject in school tho.....

40ft of draft if I recall. Pulling into the virgin islands we kicked up an awful lot of sand with the side thrusters as they were navigating in to port. But yea, pretty crazy. Even at that big you could feel it swaying a little - when you were in the bathroom the towels would swing on the bars. And the pools on the upper decks sloshed back and forth a little. But I think that could have been from the wind vs waves.

After fighting the alternator in, removing the water pump twice, new belt, etc. I go to hit the key,,, click-click-click. Sweet.

Thankfully, rather than dropping a crap ton more $$ on more express shipping for a new starter, a mid 90's Chevy C1500 is a direct replacement. For anyone who happens to have one of these Indmar Assaults still.

My daughter had fun "helping" me get everything buttoned up.

Sure is nice having a shop with room to spare when the weather turns and the unforecasted rain pays a visit.

Later this week I might actually get out on the water and be able to contribute actual boating pics to this thread. LOL
