My garage has always been a disaster. I didn’t get a chance to set it up properly before we started using it and it turned into a disaster, wish I had a pic of the “before” to post . Spent most of my spare time this summer(I didn’t have much) building a bench, hanging cabinets/storage etc. finally got it completed enough to make room for my project truck. It’s been sitting outside in the elements for the past 14 years so I am super pleased to get it indoors!

That Makai look BadA$$. Congrats!

Speaking of garages, can't let you guys have all the fun. I've been drooling over everyone else's builds they've been posting. I was trying to hold off on sharing until it was done, or at least closer, but this project has been taking forever and I've had to tuck a few things in here and there already. I need to have it buttoned up before the weather turns.

I have been trying to do a time lapse with photos each time something actually changes. Right now we're stuck waiting on more inspections since the county apparently is still lost in time somewhere back in the Covid days...

Haha - figured I would catch your attention! Footprint is 48w X 60d. 2880sq ft lower level, and 1080sq ft loft. 16ft ceilings below, 8ft ceilings in the loft. Center door is 16w X 14h, side doors are 12w x 14H. I wanted to be able to pull my 5th wheel into any of the bays I wanted without second guessing it. And eventually do a portable car lift so I can move that around as needed which meant going with almost a 6" slab.

We added in a little 8x8 garage door on the north side in case something is blocking the main door I can sneak a quad or SxS around and out. Right now I have an extra bedroom in the house as my office. My wife has talked me into moving my office out to the loft so the new will be around 17x14 plus the step out balcony. Way more than I really need but.... That still leaves over 40ft (x17) of storage space up there. I don't think I'll man cave it too much. Already have a pool table, darts, theater room, gun display, etc. in the basement in the house.

Also roughed in plumbing for a full bathroom under the stairs. Even though we could easily set it up as an ADU I really don't want more living space as our house is already over 4700sq ft. My goal is for kids to move out, not back in!

I've already spec'd out the elevator I'm going to build on the back wall. That's a helluva lot of steps to go up and down with all the holiday decorations and crap we can't seem to live without that will live in the loft.

I'm calling it the 'Toy Barn'

Love the garage! I am finishing mine right now electrical service was my last big hurdle to cross. I am alowly getting my circuits completed. Last step will be building a loft this fall once boating is done. I love having the extra space, looking forward to being able to actually use it. I have a portable lift with plans for a two post lift as well.

Check the permitting costs for an elevator as a friend in Bend years ago discovered the planning, permits and annual inspections were rather spendy. So he does the steps.

So he does the steps. For the "Toy Barn" slash Toy Castle", I would park a scissor lift inside somewhere against an outside wall with just a couple of steps or a ramp to get on it to get me to that loft. Then it's not an elevator.

Build a dumbwaiter not an elevator. My father did this in his shop. He uses it to move "things" not people and you avoid the permits and inspections. At least in the states.

Congratulations @Tommy2slow on getting your garage organized. I feel your pain, we were rushed moving into our new garage at the lake house 17 years ago with multiple storage spaces consolidating into this space. The work bench area was a cluster and little space to move. 5 years a go a acquired 2x 3" thick maple work bench tops and have been wanting to purge, clean and organize that garage. Unfortunately, we had a plumbing failure last fall that flooded the lake house and garage . The fortunate thing is it has forced the garage organization. We wrapped up reconstruction just before the 4th of July and have been slowly moving items from storage back into the space. We also changed out the header on one of the garage doors to go from a 9'x8" door to a 10'x8'6" which will make it so much easier to store the Moomba.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230907/bbe072d7782a07d4a19e1df68d8f499c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230907/609a9a7f13162a6a8593a8a8df529976.jpg

Correct, I should have called it what it will be. This is going to go in AFTER all final inspections are done. It's for bins and gear and stuff, not people. Well, maybe to try it out a couple times but that's about it.

Sent from my SM-G781V using TapatalkNo doubt it takes work to keep the space clean and organized. We definitely struggle in the home garage and lake garage but the toy barn is "my" space so there is less of a chance of someone dumping stuff where I just cleaned. Pics from when I built it and current day. Mind you there are several toys and pieces of equipment out of the building at the moment.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230908/11c5ae1417f887d00bae9d0bd5e1e83b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230908/4e01bf2be35124e1358cf2919041bbf7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20230908/aa67619b7473f79bc953ea0ee2dac5fe.jpg

Cool pic. That is party-cove-central under the jump bridge in that cove.
Big houses, mostly weekly rentals. We were there about 3 summers ago.
Pretty easy for the OH and KY peeps to get to from I-75.

I did 25 tons of gravel this weekend to combat the mud. Looking at it now it really doesn't look like much at all and i still need a LOT more around the perimeter.

Two yards, almost 3 tons, behind the building went in by hand. Not a fun night...

The rest was a few trips with dump trailer and skid steer. I couldn't find anyone who would deliver when I needed it before the rains hit so had to take matters into my own hands.

Yes, I'll be heating it eventually, probably a mini split or two. For now conditioning might consist of a few wall heaters in the loft for the storage area and office. Possibly a wood or pellet stove on the bottom floor. I still need some excavating and a 200ft trench out to the transformer for power before anything can really happen though. Can't seem to get the excavator who did all the rest to bid finishing (or he already did and my GC lost it) it so I may be taking that on myself as well. Tired of waiting for these guys. Seeing as my desk job isn't overly exciting, any chance to jump onto heavy machinery I'm there!

Stuffed my 5th wheel in this morning before the siders showed up. Not the best approach angle yet, was dragging it's tail way too close for comfort. Rear rollers were burying in the gravel before I even got close to the concrete.

Man gravel sucks! My shop took 25 truck loads not to mention the 30 plus trips I made with a dump trailer grabbin 3 ton at a time. Imine was a black hole for gravel being almost 7 ft at the back corner that had to be built up. Then the concrete was another big hit when it came time for that. Yours is shaping up nicely! Mine is still not done butI am slowly getting my electrical circuits knocked out.

I felt this comment.
Although the amounts were not as large, it was never ending gravel work followed by 60 yards of concrete.

Berg, shop is awesome. I wish I would have built my loft with initial construction.

My buddy about a mile away has kids moving out and using his garage for a staging area, so...... now I have two boats (temporarily).

Yes, I've got a lot of $$$ into gravel and concrete, and well boulders. Behind my shop on the SE corner about 30ft back the property drops off to about a 40 degree slope. Makes a great hill climb for motos and quads but the geotech engineers were a bit freaked out by that so my footings in that corner are nearly 4ft wide and 3ft tall and a whole lotta rebar. Then an 8" wide stem wall where every where else is only 6". It's been a learning experience....

https://i.imgur.com/fEHPYHs.jpg

I'm looking forward to running wire and circuits. At this rate going to be a winter project. For now I've got extension cords stretched out there for lighting, garage doors, etc.
