View Full Version : Return of the Kanga?

Moomba just dropped the "something big is coming" teaser on IG... so it looks like there is a big ol tugboat on the way.

Also has the old kangaroo logo, so will we see the return of the Kanga?

kanga was an old DD back years ago. almost bought one but glad I held out for a vdrive back then. didn't know any better... I believe it was a little deeper than the boomerang and a foot or 2 longer. had a tower option the 'rang didn't have.

now iirc the logo in 996scott's post was always known as ROO around here. I'll put my wayback hat on for a minute and ask who remembers Ed Geary and his roo tattoo...

So fun. I've never banned a single person so many times in my life. 347 aliases later I think he finally gave up.

Seems like the boats just keep getting bigger and bigger. Maybe taking some queues from the SE platform? Hmmmmm...

Think the ‘24 refers to the 2024 model year… she’s def big with the bow profile carried over from the Max:

25 or 26ft max?
that would fit 2 bills...
a way for moomba to get a larger than the makai ride and a way to introduce a "new" model at a competitive pricepoint as we think of all the msrp conversations..

either way it'll likely be another hit for SC. they have become arguably one of the top builders in the industry over the last 6 to 7 years.

I hope it’s a 25-26’. Would probably need to come standard with the 450 and have the 550 as an option. 6k stock ballast. Keep it competitive by offering a basic options model but with g6 and flow surf 3.

I don’t need the extra space but am just chasing the monster wave. My 18 mojo throws an awesome wave, but if I could get another 10-15 feet of length and 1-2 feet of depth. Man it would almost be ocean like.

Other models are not updated with 2024 pricing or features, they're still 2023 pages. Tykon pricing is the only 2024 pricing shown. Makai and other models got a lot of new features for 2024 that will be released next week. Needless to say, there's a price gap between the two and they're not aiming for the same buyer.

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’ll give my response here but also let Matt (goose) respond as well. To be honest, we might all have differing opinions when it comes to this but I think that just shows that there is always a give and take when it comes to items like this.

I know you’re not supposed to answer a question with a question, but what are you expecting a 16” prop to do for you? The engineering of the hull and stringers, engine, transmission, and prop all have to work together to achieve a certain performance level/expectation. If you look back over the years of course we’ve had many different models geared at the various sports, many different variations of gm engines, different transmissions, all sorts of prop sizes even down to 13”, and more recently to Ford engines with a 1.5:1 and now 1.7:1 ratio and we’ve come up from a 14.5” prop to 15.5” prop. Again, all of these things have to work together to achieve a desired outcome. And then you can also throw in possible issue SL such as prop burn, cavitation, slippage, etc….

In my opinion, our current engine, transmission ratio, and prop size is optimum for today’s boats and what we are trying to achieve. We are seeing great torque and power where it is needed and our fuel economy isn’t half bad either relatively speaking. When I say this I am considering all of the different sports or activities that our boats are used for including surfing, wakeboarding, skiing, tubing, cruising, etc. I’m not sure that re-engineering everything just to go to a 16” prop would give you this same outcome. Just my $0.02.

Since this is about the Tykon maybe I should also add that I’ve spent some time in a heavily weighted Tykon with the 450 engine and standard 15.5x16.5 prop and it performed surprisingly well here at TN elevation. Weight for surfing was standard 4500 lbs full plus 8-10 adults. Wakeboarding was about 3500 lbs and same passenger load.

It is VERY good. The running surface is similar to other models in the line so you can expect very similar characteristics. This is a big boat and like all big boats, you need weight in it to “sink” it. The standard 4500 lbs of ballast does a great job. Like with all of our boats, however, you should be primarily picking your model based on the size of your passenger load and body of water. Different than some of our competitors, you shouldn’t buy a specific model based on general wake performance. When it comes to the Tykon separating itself from the similar size Makai, you’ll just have to keep any eye out for the rest of the 2024 info. These two boats will go after different types of buyers.

No Flow 3.0....assuming to keep cost down under Makai.
No G6 upgrade??? Why? Are these bigger ballast pumps than Puppies?

What is the bracket under the rear lockers? In the walk-thru video she flips open the locker and it is mounted on the underside of the cover. I assume that is for the flip up stern seats.

Flow 3 is an option. I can tell you that the standard Flow 2 works great though. Come to think of it, all of my time with the Tykon has been with Flow 2.

G6 ballast is optional. Same ballast pumps as years before. We are keeping this an option to keep cost down for those customers in which fill times doesn’t mean much to them. Yes, they do exist.

The brackets/hinges are indeed for the optional flip up transom seats.

I always shoot for a 8.5-9.5 pitch. For roll, I adjusted the AutoWake settings to put me at -1 on the port side and 2.5 starboard. I always like it to where the wave has just cleaned up (not too much roll).

Speed range was 11-11.4. I don't remember the exact RPM's but maybe in the 3500 range?

You are correct in the Supra has used the 16" prop for a couple of years. You've got to remember, we are just talking about half an inch here BUT this is where the whole package comes into place. Yes, its the same engine and transmission but different hulls, different weights of the boat, and also a slightly different performance expectation. Yes, Moomba and Supra are both part of Skier's Choice, but our engineering direction comes from different places.

iirc roswell was in bed with exile. different grills but same basic speakers. likely from same chinese plant. could be wrong as samson was same as one as well.

supra comments I remember seeing are that supra is now designed in house and the pics of the SV speakers would confirm. figure that's only the pods, that the speakers are still being sourced from a named supplier. interesting they didn't do the same setup with moomba in a slightly smaller scale but guessing roswell is cheaper than in-house cnc.

I love the new tower, the integrated bimini is awesome to not have to dick with it every time!
it needs a back end extension though

It has a rear sunshade option

I wonder if you can tow with the bimini up and tower down. It looks like it is tucked beneath the windshield but not sure if that is enough for wind not to get underneath it.

You can, just lock the bimini in the down position with the pins on the outside, really easy.

Power tower is a cool upgrade. How does the Bimini stowe? Is it similar to the current t Supra Bimini?

I love all the new optional additions to the Moomba line. Amazing.

Did any tweaks get done to the engine compartment dividers, more/better engine/trasnmission sound dampening or higher/adjustable seat?

You are correct in the Supra has used the 16" prop for a couple of years. You've got to remember, we are just talking about half an inch here BUT this is where the whole package comes into place. Yes, its the same engine and transmission but different hulls, different weights of the boat, and also a slightly different performance expectation. Yes, Moomba and Supra are both part of Skier's Choice, but our engineering direction comes from different places.

Moomba has got all their bases covered with boat sizes. Have you guys ever brainstormed ideas into building a boat that's sole purpose was to be a surf boat? No regard for skiing/tubing/wakeboarding/cruising....just shape the hull for surfing, cap it at 8 passengers, slam it with 8k ballast stock, put in 12 pumps, 3 batteries, whatever it takes but have the largest stock displacement possible with 8 or myabe max 10 passengers?

It's a "hard" bimini, similar to the old Z5 but this one folds down with the tower. So you don't stow it, it's always out.

How easy is it to remove if you did not want it up? I know thats not the case most of the time, but there have been times we cruise without it deployed.

Between not having to deal with folding out a bimini and also not having bugs all over the speakers and tower I think moomba is back on top of the budget line!
Will all models get the dual screen and passenger audio control?

I guess the Makai, Mojo and Craz are the new " Supras" of 2019 with likely MSRPs easily getting up in to the 160s..... Crazy that Supra, Malibu, Gs are basically Super Boats and that isn't even talking about Paragons or Pavatis....?

I was thinking the same. Back in 2018-2019 a boat like a Supra SA could be found at the same price points as these newer upper level Moomba boats.

Yes, we’ve discussed a lot of things….maybe I should keep my mouth shut on this, however. Haha.

For everyone, all of Moomba 2024 is released now. I would encourage you to reach out to your dealer on questions, especially pricing.

E/pex tower is the option. Pro tower is standard.
Looks like dual screens are standard on most models.

Price point for "budget" boat line is getting up there. I'm seeing leftover stock tier 1 boats for the same price as new tier 2 boats. I would be in the market if interest rates weren't 8-9%.....lmao

Per Drew:

• E/Pex Power Tower (Mojo and Makai)

• Dual Stern Thrusters (Mojo and Makai)

• Dual Screen Dash (Kaiyen, Craz, Mojo, Makai)

• Activity/Rider Presets (All)

• Passenger Screen/Updated Glovebox (Kaiyen, Craz, Mojo, Makai)

• Pro Tower Standard (Kaiyen, Craz, and Mojo)

• 4 New Gelcoats and much more!

These new features really set Moomba apart from the completion. IMO I agree these are more like a 2019 Supra in terms of features and such. Really nice upgrades! If interest rates weren’t so damn high right now I’d be selling my Max and ordering a new Mojo with all the bells and whistles. I really dig the new spearmint flake and slate blue gel colors.

I agree, the new Mojo is nicer than my 18 SA. But I'd have to demo it. My wakes and waves are elite. I came from a 15 Mojo. Demoed a new design Mojo a couple years ago and it didn't compare to the SA. Could be different now.

I agree the gen2 SA wake and waves when dialed in is elite.

If you want to fold the bimini, I suggest sticking with the Pro Tower. The E/PEX bimini is similar to the Z5, it does not fold. It will fold down under the windshield with the tower but you cannot fold it back, like Pro Tower bimini.

Can anyone go into more detail about the 3D fish view on the dual screen? How far away from the boat can you see. We have a small reservoir that has a couple shelves that I am aware of but makes me nervous every time I hop behind the boat. What are the controls like for the music on that screen?

I assume the bimini just stays up while on the trailer as well at hwy speeds? Or do you need to fold the tower down so the bimini is down under the windshield to help with wind?

You can fold it down or leave it, just has to be locked in place with the pins on the side

I'm not sure on how far you can see, but it maps pretty far ahead of you so you can definitely see shallow spots coming. Music is a separate screen on the new Garmin screen and it is really cool as well. Much better interface than the old head unit, IMO

Got to see a 2024 SL today at the dealer. Slate blue and black is a nice combo. The new features are pretty nice and impressive.
