I replaced distributor cap, wires, and plugs. Next thing is that it cranks over, but will not start. Additionally, the fuse blows (the middle one of the 3) Im guessing its to the fuel pump, or whatever used to prime the ignition process. Now i dont hear the priming sound wither.

Could the fuel pump be faulty, and therefore, blow the fuse? Is something not grounded? Does it have anything to do with oil pressure?

Thanks for any help!!
Damian

would low oil pressure be the cause for the fuse blowing?

If you are blowing the same fuse everytime then you have a short or bad component(s) on that circuit.

The 3rd fuse in should be labeled. Look on the cover or in the manual for what the fuse powers. If this is you fuel pump, then the fuel pump is probably faulty.

Thank you so much . Turns out when I unplug the distributor cap that I just put on It now does not blow a fuse when I turn the key. I wonder why that is? I may have put the wires on wrong. Does anyone know the sequence that the wires go on the cap?

I'll try to pull my cover and take a look for you today. But it should be a typical Chevy HEI setup - one side is your distributor wire (red). The other side is for the tach (green).

I would bet the coil or ignition module is bad and blowing the fuse

True HEI....Starting left of the wiring harness plug, second socket in IS 1, and going clockwise on the top of the distributor.
1 8 4 3 6 5 7 2.

The coil is probably the problem. If you changed it check the leads and make sure they are on the correct side.
