For those that carry all this extra lead: if you do anything beyond surf does it effect anything beyond fuel economy? We like to wakeboard, joy ride, and kids tube. I am the only surfer currently and majority of the time we have me, my wife, and two young kids (100lb combined). I can get enough push close to the boat but would like to get a more surfable wave without always having extra bodies or moving around lead of external fat sacs; especially if it sacrifices our other activities.

Guess it depends on how much you intend to carry. I kept my lead weight modest (500 lbs) so I don’t have to work the boat hard when not surfing. I use water weight for the rest of the ballast.

My mondo has 500lbs in it. I plan to add a bit more. Same situation good push but its right at the swim platform. I want to get further back. My crew is same as yours 2 small kids and wife. Even with upgraded bags, a bit more lead isnt gonna drastically affect your mpgs.

I have 1k lead for my 21 mojo. 400lbs stays in the bow permanently. The other 600lbs stays on the dock and i put it in the boat when i surf. I don't need it for my wife or 7 year old but when i surf it comes on the boat.

Yesterday we experimented with moving my fat sac up to the bow in my Max in addition to the 300 lbs of lead up there and it made the wave have push from front to back. Normally there is a wide sweet spot of push but you can feel it fade but with this change of ballast distribution the Max seems to like the extra weight up there. Maybe your Craz is similar and give it a try. I surf with around 5,800 lbs.

Have you upgraded your stock ballast? If not, try that as it won’t add weight when not needed. I run 800# of lead and my 90# son has no trouble wakeboarding with no water ballast . I only run my bags at 50% when wakeboarding with older athletes. I upgraded my bags so the 800# of lead and 50% full bags is more than enough.

What board do you ride? Is that a doomswell?

I always have 500#s on my SL. Usually have 1-2 families.

If there is only 3 or 4, I toss in another 300-500# more.

Fuel - I never track it. We can burn 1/4 to 1/2 tank depending on what we are doing. I always go the gas station before my next drop it. I think I hit 1/4 of a tank once this season.

I do not have long cruises to get to a spot.
