Guess I’ll start this one. We finally got out on the water and despite storms chasing us all day we had a good time on the water. Tried out a new wave setup with more bow ballast and different plate settings and this might be my most favorite wave I’ve ridden on behind my Max. Great shape and transition with lots of power from the front to the back, even for us big boys :D

Lots of scattered t-storms all last week in Ktown.

Today was nice, too bad I had other stuff that kept me off the lake.

But, school is starting, so that means less boats during the week - I hope.

Tried to do an evening of surfing and foiling last week after work. But We got bad vibrations when we went to leave the dock. turns out the wife backed over a floating shoe when she's picked me up at the dock. The upper of the shoe wrapped around the prop bad enough that I had to cut it off once we were back on shore.

So no driving the boat above idle and we just cruised the no wake zone and looked at all the Portland floating homes on the Columbia. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220810/859307a873eb501f1b922a36b44db362.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220810/0554883aacb0e0a955b0675689ad0613.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220810/fef7deb61d18bb89f5cc8826b76582ad.jpg

Was a super nice day out yesterday. Touch windy at first then it almost turned to glass, even broke out the slalom ski a bit. We finally talked my daughter into getting on a board as well. Popped right up without any issues. Now she should be good to go. Now it will be game on to compete with her brother.

Thanks. It’s only his second year competing and has won both of the events he’s entered. He was competing this weekend against boys 2 years older than him and still finished on top . He is in a training camp right now coached by the top rider in the country preparing for the Nationals next month. The best part is that he is having so much fun. He absolutely loves the lifestyle, already talking about coaching and officiating when he’s older. He has a really good balance of competitive nature and fair play. His best buddy, who is also his closest competition, rode badly and was out early. Jake never celebrated his misfortune but actually went over to him, all on his own, and gave him a hug when he saw how upset he was. He’s a pretty great kid.

With Hunter Smith, top Canadian amateur. He worked with Oli a bit last fall, I don’t think Aaron does much coaching . Trying to coordinate with a couple of pros to work with him in Florida early in 2023. Going to try to tie it in with a family trip to the Orlando area.

Thats Arrow Lake…. Basically the Columbia River, but this reservoir is about 120 miles in between dams…. Water has gone down about 2 feet in the last week, but there was a good snowpack and melt…. Hopefully it holds up for a while….

This was today

Water temp is in the 60’s I would say…. Dive deep and it gets chilly, my depth finder seems to max out at 328 feet in a lot of spots

What a beautiful lake! I would love to try it out some day, but my wife says she is allergic to water below 70. I did get her into 62 once with a wetsuit. Your 328 on the depth finder is better than mine. It seems to lose it at 270 when I know the water is over 350. I love big lakes!

Third and possible last boating trip of the summer - what a screwy year...

As I look at my surf wave I'm thinking "not bad for a 21yr old boat". Maybe hanging a little too loose though.

My youngest daughter got our oldest grandson out on the surfboard - first time ever. Waving to mom on the shore as we rolled by.

Bonus round - how many were on the tube? Turns out at about 35mph with just the right amount of front lift the kite tube still lives!

Here's a little pucker factor for you. On the Snake River as you enter Hells Canyon you can go up a ways before it starts getting too shallow and a pretty swift current. Usually only see jet sleds in this area as it drops from 10 to 8 to 6 to 4 to oh crap.

Don't worry though, I'm a trained perfeshional.

Im the worlds worst at taking pictures but there were probably 20 boats there for the meetup plus a ton of others just hanging out. It really was a great time. If Skiers Choice was smart they would get behind this and make it a big deal like Malibu does their meetup. Will see if my wife has some more pics of the event. My phone stayed in the boat most of the weekend.

Prepping for new WM bags, and since my stock bags would pop out the engine dividers…

1x1 1/8 angle iron, cut to about 28” pretty close to the bottom channel and to not interfere with the upper locking nut and not scrape on the gel coat

30614

Using the existing hardware

Cleaned up and drilled, stock hardware is exactly 10” apart

30616

Have enough material to add a second per panel, plus some 1” 1/8 flat stock to utilize if required as well….

Was $24 bucks for enough material to make 6 angle iron brackets and 6 flat stock braces…. Surprised metal was still that cheap

I know everyone has done this a few times, and knows the issues…. I did notice on the front and back panels they had a small screw in the lower c channel holding them in place, but did not stop the front from popping out at the top after the middle had already pushed into the engine….

So far it has run really well. I really went back and forth with the dealer and he assured me at my elevation I should be fine with the 400. I was going to do the break in as prescribed by the manual, but the dealer said you can surf it right away and just avoid full ballast wakeboarding and WOT. We are up to 14.7 hours and have made sure to vary the RPM and keep it under 4000 RPM. We did surf with the dealer during delivery with three in the boat and full ballast. There was no issue there. We wakeboard 90% or more of the time. I wont need full ballast wakeboarding (I am not very good).

I'll update as I use more and wakeboard with bigger crews and ballast.

The prop is Acme 3591, 16x13.9 according to the build sheet.

I have had some amazing highs this year, learning to foi,l going ropeless with foil first 360 etc,but none of that touches what I experienced today. Both of my kids and my wife learned to surf today! My 7 year old got it first this morning after working with him yesterday in the water he flipped that board up and took off and immediately was tellin me to crank up his tunes! I was so stoked for him! Then my 9 year old got out and I was hoping he would get up too so he wouldnt be outdone by his little brother and sure enough he popped right up and took off! I felt like my brain was gonna explode from all the excitement for them! I absolutely could not believe the progression from what I had been dealing with the day before. So next we filled the ballasts and my wife got out there. She has been trying to learn over our last few trips out but has not beenvquite sucessful. Well she struggled a few times before getting up and outside the wake and doing amazing! And shes on a skim style board with a 3/4 in fin so there is not stability at all! I am so proud of all of them!

Mxmark4, that’s so cool that they are all out there enjoying the boat and figuring out the technique for surfing. Next they are going to be fighting over whose turn it is behind the boat.

We went out this morning just to cruise and swim. I love the bow on the SL. We flip the walkthrough air dam/seat back up to keep our 22 month old daughter from running up in the bow.

I love the ultra blue in the sun. The light graphite interior looked darker on the build and I was a little bummed at first, but it looks great and matches the light graphite gel color!

MxMark, that is what it's all about! Makes the boat purchase worth every penny. It won't be too much longer and they will be wanting to bring all their friends along too!

Have you noticed these gaps while moving around the cockpit?

I read about some ankles getting in that area. It was one of the first things I noticed when playing around with the newer flip up seat. Or I should say my tailbone noticed it first.

Someone on social media had an upholstery shop make a set of little cushions to fill those gaps.

Ah....that is pretty big I must say. Compared to the sliding seat on my 21' Makai, that's huge. I see it is to allow for the hinge mechanism vs a removable back rest like Moomba has, but a little more designing could have maybe avoided that much gap.

You know upon further thought, you should not take a chance on letting that hurt you. So I will go out on a limb here and risk my safety by trading you my boat for yours. I will not even try to get you to pay me any extra money for that safety issue! LOL![emoji16] just let me know!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220829/621adf029ae4391a4141915295149477.jpg

Not to be a stickler here but for what these boats cost and the vinyl tears and cracks I have seen from foot placement near seams....you step in that hole you deserve it!

The transom walk-thru and sea deck on the table is there for a reason. If you are using the flip up transom seats that is the only way in and out anyways. But I'm with HFarr....I'll trade you even up to mitigate your risk.

I haven’t had an issue yet. We have had crews from 3 to 9. I just remind people to step on gator step only and it hasn’t been an issue. The boat is huge, I think if you just pay attention to where you are stepping it is avoidable.

That being said, if you did step wrong or somehow miss your step and land in that gap I bet it wouldn’t feel good. Knock on wood, no issues for us so far.

I put 2 screws in each of my bottom panels as an added safety as well as the upgraded steel c Chanel. I think I cut mine at 28" as well.

I'll second you guys here. Anyone looking to upgrade their bags, 100% need to do this. I got the WM upgrade initially and it's not working. In fact, those reinforcement pieces are bending. So, I'm in the middle of redoing it somewhat like this.

Have you guys thought any about the pressure on the fiberglass up top?

Have you guys thought any about the pressure on the fiberglass up top?The top fiberglass edge has crossed my mind, but not too much I can do about that without a lot more work. I think it is stout enough to handle the pressure as is. That load is spread out along all the panels pretty evenly across the top. I had those panels bending and popping out with just the stock bags even before going to the WM bags. They are just too soft and flexible is the real problem.

I just starting getting paranoid about too much stress in that area as the rest is reinforced. But maybe I am overly concerned, and like to you said , not much to do about it.

I think its a concern because the load is focussed on the area where the two clips are at the top, thats a lot of pressure in a small space, I still have stock bags, and tested my single 1x1 angle iron on each middle diver panel, and the starboard side was ok, but port still popped in, I added the second angle iron to each middle panel today and will test that, I also have some flat stock I thought about using, perhaps up top to spread the load out, I will also think about the lower c channel screws, and perhaps even 2 more clips on the top of each side…. But I like to test things out 1 at a time to see what works….

As I mentioned still stock bags, but I will upgrade in the off season, so I am ok with building in some overkill…..

Are you guys using aluminum? That is what WM sells also.

Try to find 1" x 1" SST. Either 204 or 316 grade. It will be much stronger and run them the whole length of the panel not 3" short on each side like WM.

Also the channel at the bottom. Same thing use SST and add a few extra screws. Order deep channel. They make 1/2" x 1" channel that is 1/2" wide but has 1" sides to add height and help support the panel further up.

Lastly, just replace the panels with aluminum and cover them in sound deadener material. Add UHMW straps to the bottom to make them sit tight in the channel and at the top for the locks to work.

Just thoughts....but seeing these boats are new I get the frustration.

I used 1/8th steel angle iron for mine, was not going to go with aluminum…. Lol steel is just more ballast!! (I kill myself sometimes)…. I went as long as I could on each one….

I am a tinkerer, and I knew this was likely going to be an issue, so perhaps its too easy for me to overlook, I tend to adjust and modify everything I own anyways….

To fully resolve the panels buckling, I think the best approach would be a stiffer back brace channel for the panels and also a beefier and taller channel/track on the bottom.

Mine still buckle from time to time, mainly if my wife hits some rollers at a side angle where the boat rolls a lot. I haven’t upgraded my panel dividers yet but one thing I did do that seems to lessen the likelihood of it happening was making sure my bags were slightly rotated towards the outer side of the boat on each side rather than straight up and down. This seems to aim the bag away from the panel a little more than if it were straight up or aimed towards it. I did this during the fill process when the bag had maybe 10% water in it so that the bag could be tweaked and moved around/rotated. Obviously don’t want to go too much or cause any addd tension on the fittings or tubing but you should be able to adjust the bag a little to expand towards the outside more than straight up.

Hey now, thats a pretty interesting Idea, I do believe that its during the filling process where the most pressure can be exerted on the panels dependant on how the bag is oriented and fills….. I like your idea and will put it on the list!

Picked them up at Home Depot and painted them with some high temp engine enamel after I cut and drilled them. I believe I cut them off at about 28" each. And I did not pay $19 each for them. I think they were 10 each. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220901/87b88728fd815106f042963b6166e087.jpg

Finished my project. Like HFARR, I used 1/8” angle iron on all the panels (+ my wake makers reinforcement kit). Then, I took out the old track and used this on both sides and the back.

For the back (carpeted panels) I actually used the large angle iron on the back then put the original channel back on top of it. Also put one piece of angle iron in the back of those panels.

Went out today and no issues ! Not the cleanest upgrade in terms of looks but very effective. Only getting maybe 1/8” of panel movement , if that.

So you have a continuous piece of angle all the way along the length of the panels for the engine side at the bottom with some shorter pieces along the bag sides of the panels? That creates the slot to hold the panels at the bottom. Do you have an overall photo of it?
