Hey All,

Been on the forum for a few months, creeping around, reading everyone's input and experience with these boats. Wife and I finalized/submitted our build this past weekend. January build date so we won't take delivery until next year but cannot wait.

A lot of you had an impact in our decisions for the final build, so thank you!! I typically never post in forums, just view, but this seems like a good community!

We're located just south of Charlotte, NC and will be using the boat primarily on Lake Wylie.

When is your build date?

Thank you! Your interior actually helped us decide the route we wanted to take for ours.

Our build date is January so we should have the boat late Feb or early Mar. That should give us a month or two to get it dialed in before the summer.

Here’s pics of the build sheet and boat from the builder.

Beautiful build!!!

Just a heads up, the dark grphite is much lighter than the builder shows.

If I could do my interior over, I would change my dark graphite to black.

I wanted the all black look too but the wife wanted some contrast haha. I really like your interior combo, hoping it works with our Pacific Blue boat and white accents.

This 7 month wait is going to drive me insane, I think I have watched every Supra/Moomba Youtube video that exists.

Thanks man! And yeah no thrusters.... I went back forth on this - they went to 11k add-on for 2023 + the base MSRP price increase for the SA, I just didn't want to spend it. Hopefully I don't end up regretting it.

Now that is a proper NC colored boat.

Congrats! Yes the wait will feel like forever, but that early spring lake run will be fantastic.

In true Mr. Arizona spirt, I have to ask, did you get the thrusters? (there I asked for you)

Beat me to it Tx

Regret is the most costly upgrade you can get.

I love the pacific blue. Our first boat had a similar color. We called it viagra because it was the little blue pill that gets everyone up!

Congrats on the build.

Okay, I either need someone to talk me off or over the ledge. I'm super close to moving to an SL build slot over my current SA. Thought is, kids are getting bigger, so are their friends, why not just get the bigger boat now instead of 2-3 years down the road.

Obviously, it cost more - I'm just south of Charlotte, NC, around 4-500ft elevation. Is the 450 needed if I plan on running with a decent size crew from time to time - would primarily surf and not wakeboard. If not, decision is easy for me. I honestly prefer the way the SA looks over the SL, I do like the interior design of the SL slightly better, along with the extra ft of length.

Opinions and advice are welcomed!

Thanks

Never regretted getting a bigger boat or a bigger motor. I actually prefer the look of the SL over the SA. I like lines and the gel layout better not to mention you get all the new updated interior options.

SL!
After having a 24ft boat, I could never go back to 22. When we purchased our current boat, 22’s we’re not even on the list. 23ft minimum.
The price difference from SA to SL at that point is negligible.
No one ever regretted getting a bigger boat [emoji1690]

Thanks guys, will post updated pics after speaking with the Dealer, might play with the SL gel lines some.

FTR, at your elevation you don’t need the 450 in the SL.

I have run 11k pound weight at 10 deg pitch with the 400 at 1000 feet and with the 16x13.9 prop no problem.

You can save some bucks on a 400 instead of the 450. I have a 24.5' Makai and 4700 lbs of water ballast with 10 or 12 people in the boat and Still surf easily with a 15.5x15 prop in Georgia. More power is always nice, but if you want to save several grand, you don't need it.

Yeah especially because the price of the engine upgrade has went up again for 2023… November build so I still have some time to think on it - if it wasn’t for the ballast increase in the SL I would for sure just go with the 400.

I run 4200 ballast/lead combo in SA, effectively 100# more than SL with stock ballast.

400/1.7 is stout, $10k is a lot for 46 ft.lbs

The 1.7 Trans is the best upgrade. 16x13.5 prop or use that as a spare and buy a 16x12 and you can run the 400 all day at 500ft.

Save the $5k for fuel and drinks.

Alright so I’m sold on changing to the SL and keeping the 400 instead of the 450. Seems like the consensus is at my elevation, with the 13.9 prop, I should be good. Thanks again for all the advice, really glad I found this forum.

10K!!??!! Holy $hit! With some extra$$ on top! 400 would be my choice and use that 10k for something really extra! Like I said I have a 400 in a Makai that pulls all day long. I have a 1.76 trans. STILL OFFERS GREAT TORQUE. How many milliseconds faster do you need to get to surf speed?

I’m in the 450 club. I run the 16x13 at 1300 ft currently with 700 lbs and full stock ballast and have had some issues getting up on plane with crew of 8.

I’m always factoring in resale value. I won’t even look at the 400 in a boat over 22ft. Bigger boat = more weight in crew =more push needed, especially if your running into the wind with the Bimini out.

In hindsight, I wish we’d of looked at the SL harder. The updated interior is just so much more functional.

If you stay with the 400, get the thrusters, and never look back.

Hey gpippin08. I am on Lake Wylie and run a 21 Mojo with 400 with 1k lead and a good sized crew and the boat pulls no problem. I know the Mojo is lighter but with the 1k lead its pretty close. Interested in what you got quoted from STWS as I was in the market this year for a SL but with the price increases I am thinking to keep what I got.

Hey, I am actually going up to STWS today to speak with Greg, I’ll let you know where we end up. Good to know you’re on the same lake as me and aren’t having any issues with the additional weight. We’ll probably end up being 80-90% Surf, with the rest wakeboarding. Am I right in thinking that the extra power benefits wakeboarding more than surfing being it’s higher speeds, or do I have that wrong?

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yes I believe you are correct. Most of the additional torque of the 450 motor is at a higher RPM range than you will use for surfing. According to CARB, peak torque of the 400 motor is at 3750 RPM, peak torque of the 450 motor is at 4550 RPM. I would be surprised if there is a big difference in the powerband below 3750 RPM. The extra power of the 450 will be more helpful getting you onto plane for wakeboarding with lots of ballast than it will for surfing. My motto is if it won't surf with the 400, it won't surf with the 450 either.

iirc ecu is proprietary to indmar and they don't unlock.
there has been some debate over the years on the difference in the 400 and 440 only being software programming and the crazy high price the upgrade used to cost for nothing but a flash. the 460 that I remember reading in the past actually has some different pieces/parts.

450/460 have Gt350 intake manifold and 87mm throttle body.

You can’t tune the Indmar ECM.

Ended up going 450 after working some more off of the boat. 400 would have been sufficient for most of what we do, mainly going 450 for peace of mind with bigger crews and the extra discount I got made it worth it. Builder is down but will post pics of the new build once it’s back up. Thanks again for all the input.

Also, base msrp price difference from SA to SL this year is about 7k - essentially doubled this year.
