Cool vid and wave looks great! You almost nailed that 360 :)

One of these days I’ll get a drone.

One of these days I’ll get a drone.

I severely under estimated the skill involved in piloting the drone. Following the boat and getting fluid camera shots with an entry level Mavic Mini 2 is way more complicated than I thought. Definitely would take me hours more practice to get to where it looks decent. My brother in law did the piloting here and was a natural after a couple hours.

I assume the more money you throw at it, the easier it gets, (e.g. drones larger than 250g, drones that auto-follow, etc.)

I’m always hesitant about going out on the holiday weekends. Melton Hill Lake in TN and a very pleasant surprise with the lack of boats and calm water.

Non boating related and actually on June 30th. Cherokee Lake TN which is a little over 1 hour from my house.

Too funny to watch these kids reel in these big Stripers.

BTW - look at those lake conditions. It was like that all morning. All I could think of was having the wake boat out there.

100%. My neighbor has the mavic 2 mini and I have the mavic 2 zoom. Huge difference in stability. Both can do amazing things. One is just friendlier than the other.

Stellar looking ribs, 3/2/1 method?

Try the 4/1 method.

3hrs at 225
1 hr at 225, until you get pullback. Spray every 15 min with 50/50 apple juice/water or apple cider vinegar/water.
1 hr 275 wrapped in pork lard/bacon fat until internal temp is 202 or has the texture of soft butter

Look at Mad Scientist BBQ

Never failed with 3/2/1, however will try that mad scientist 4/1 method for shits and gigs.

No sauce here, I have my go to rub, Cherry wood for smoke, coke for liquid in foil stage.

Always have gone back ribs, never tried spares.

They were scrumptious! Yes I usually do the 3-2-1 method for ribs and hasn’t steered me wrong so far.

I’ll paste my FB post in case you want to try this rub or baste. If you make ribs already then most of this is familiar with you.

Dry rub was my “Wilson Blend” of Rendezvous bbq rub, Mediterranean salt, black pepper, Japanese 7 spices (this is where it’s at), Cheyenne red pepper, onion powder, touch of garlic powder and ground cinnamon. I rub mustard on the ribs a binder and then season liberally both sides. Wrap on foil and let them sit overnight in fridge.

Low n slow indirect smoked @ 225-250 degrees for 3 hours with mesquite wood chunks. Bones down / meat up.

Pulled ribs off grill to prep for steam wrap.

Rib meat side facing down / bones up I coated aluminum foil with butter, Sweet Baby Ray’s bbq sauce and sprinkled brown sugar. I do this for both sides of coursed then double wrap in foil for good seal of juices.

Place wrapped ribs meat side down and let cook at 250-265 degrees for 2 hours while spritzing with 50/50 mix of apple juice and apple cider vinegar every 30 minutes.

By this time ribs should have some give to them and check with bounce method for cracking. If seeing some bones on the ends pull them off and prepare for wet baste.

Wet baste was made with Sweet Baby Ray’s bbq sauce, jalapeño juice, a few drops of Heinz 57, Mediterranean salt and black pepper. BTW this was the best baste mixture I’ve made so far!!

Mopped ribs both sides with wet baste. Place on grill again meat side up and let cook for 45 mins to an hour or until 180-190 degrees internal meat temp.

Give it a try and let me know what you think

So as usual my wife and I didn't capture many pics this weekend but I did get this one of the fireworks at one of the marinas on the lake. https://i.imgur.com/sjql5d4.jpg We spent 3 full days at our lake house with family and friends and it was blast. We also got a new neighbor next door right after Memorial Day, super nice people and they have 3 stand up skis that they are super generous with and let us ride. I had never ridden one before and have to say that it is way more of a work out than I ever imagined or at least a different workout LOL anyways our neighbor is pretty talented on them so here are a few videos

Captains Log Day 1: Not off to a very good start. Turns out the two Group 29 batteries I swear I just replaced a few years ago, was actually 6 years ago. And playing the stereo in the driveway for 3-4 hours packing up the night before didn't help.

https://i.imgur.com/vD7ABeC.png

Captains Log Day 2: The center ballast fill pump decided it was done so the surf wave was crap. My Golden kept a close eye on Dad back there growling in case she might need to save me. Funny how the wind makes her look 150lbs wide.

https://i.imgur.com/oz2OCwq.jpg

Air temp was 80's, water temp 60-ish at best. Not quite what we were expecting. But good enough for the hangout at a newly found top secret beach that doesn't exist.

https://i.imgur.com/QaVZOvr.jpg

We were tempted to hit the water for the fireworks show like this guy, but thankfully decided against it. After sitting in the dark getting eaten alive by the bugs, and still no show, they had to call it off due to irreparable technical difficulties around 11pm. Serious bummer and a whole lot of ticked off people. Oh well. The fire brewing in the distance on this shot was a little troubling.

https://i.imgur.com/si8AeS5.jpg

And of course the kids who can't be thrown.

A few pics from our 4th weekend, a bit late. Friday was our best day out with no one on the water. We even created us a new lake girl, sons friend that finally asked to go with us. Was all I could do to pull us both up on the board. Then she was hooked. Got her up on a his board, well for a few seconds anyways. She absolutely loved the lake I think. Always like bringing new people out for a fun day. We even broke out the ski for a bit. Followed by a few fireworks. Was an awesome weekend.

My brother throws one hell of a show! He plans it out months in advance when he does puts in a dealer order for himself and a few select customers. Fills up a 35 ft enclosed trailer every year with cases of fireworks. Takes us a few hours to wire it all up and lay it all out for a computer controlled show. Think we used something around 90-100 ignitors and 60-80 ft of fuse this year for the ones that are all fused together. The finale was 144 shots all within 30-45 seconds. Pretty well rivals most small town shows.

We have always gone north as well, ranging from Forgotten to Seven Mile. We leave on Saturday and I am trying to convince everyone to head south toward Iceberg/Annie's so we can visit 50-mile/Gregory Bridge and Cathedral. Any advice on spots to stay? How busy is it that way?

It really wasn't very busy at all. Most of the day it was pretty quiet. We stayed in Iceberg canyon in a little spot on the left as you head down. It gave us shade until about 11am and then again after about 6pm. There were probably 5 other houseboats down Iceberg. The other place we saw that looked really good for parking a houseboat was in a small little canyon on the right side of the main channel as you head past Rincon going down to Escalante. It is called Long Canyon. We just went in exploring and the end of both the left and right arms of the canyon there was a really nice spot to put a boat. They were both taken but we would definitely check it again next time we are down there. From where we stayed in Iceberg it was only about a 20-25 minute ride to Escalante and 45-50 min back to Bullfrog.

My 7 year old is really geetin into the knee board. He was standing up no handed at one point standing with rope another time riding with the rope kneeling. Im hoping to transtion him to the surf board soon, hejust doesnt seem to have the arm strngth to get up.
And then you have this moron who is plowing about 50 ft off these docks. Pissed me off so bad. Wake boats get all the haten but any moron in a runabout gets a pass because its notnas damaging to shorelines etc.

Girls at those younger ages always catch onto things faster than boys. I have both, and definitely noticed that. And yep...you will probably get blamed for that wake on the docks! We have the same thing happen on our lake. Of course we also have a new family that bought a house in the back of the feeder creek to the main lake we live on, along with many others, and they have a Mastercraft that they pull surfers behind while leaving the creek. Narrow and cant help bouncing boats all over the docks. This pisses everyone off including me. Just no respect .

Narrow and cant help bouncing boats all over the docks. This pisses everyone off including me. Just no respect .

Wished I had a pic of my wife’s face and my face today when I tossed out the box anchor and the carabiner decided to unclip itself. There went $130 LOL. Had that thing for several years now :(

I knew this day was going to be messed up when it all started with backing the boat down while forgetting to remove the transom straps. Doh! :D

I went in 35 ft. There are some divers on the lake that retrieve stuff for folks but not sure if they charge anything and it may just be cheaper to buy another. It sucks that it happened. I’m just glad I didn’t have a hole in the side of my boat when it broke loose!

A couple of weeks ago it was tears and 20’something angst when my niece left her phone one one of the flip-up seats on the port swim locker. I was getting the tube ready (which puts me in a bad mood) and without regard opened the locker to get the tube… and kerplunk!!! Another iPhone 13plus and workplace key cards in Davey Jones’ locker. The drama that ensued with that big life lesson.

I’d be more upset at losing my box anchor. Best anchor I’ve ever used.

2022 SA 450Man! I did that exact same thing to one of my sons friends phone, except it was on the flip up lid of a plastic dock box life jacket locker. Right next to the water! Kids these days don't seem to think twice about just setting down a phone anywhere. Middle of the floor, on a stair step, wherever. And then get upset if someone doesn't see it and steps on it. If I own something that is breakable, I am careful of where I place it. Phone, glasses, watch etc...

I am like you guys though, the anchor would have bothered me more!

Same thing happened to me. I eye balled the spot where the anchor went in and I directed my ex-Navy buddy to the spot, he dove own in 20 feet of water and I got lucky as he had it in his hand. I used a D ring and failed to wire the bolt. Interesting enough, the next day we were at a beach about 300 yards from where we were the day before and my buddy was swimming and came across an anchor rope. We pulled it up with a Danforth anchor and a bungee rope. So he got his reward.

Nah I usually toss it out and then tie off on the cleat. As soon as I tossed it and it hit the water the carabiner popped off and down she went. All I could was just watch the bubbles as it disappeared lol. My wife’s jaw and mine were gobsmacked it just happened. Then I checked the side of my boat for any damage as the carabiner popped back and hit it but thankfully no chips or anything. Was lucky it didn’t knock some gel off or worse the carabiner come off as I’m tossing it and the anchor hit the gunnel LOL.

I’m going to see if I can borrow a magnet from a guy at the lake or see what the diver may charge to get it. I have the coordinates in the general area and our waters are clear in that spot so it shouldn’t be hard for a diver to find. Not sure it will be cheaper than buying a new one but worth a shot. This also made me realize I need to carry a backup anchor of some sort because we just had to find a calm cove to float in but constantly had to relocate due to winds and waves.

(I am secretly changing mine to a locking unit as I type this)

Still trying to warm up to skim type boards. I have noticed the Matrix likes to point outward away from the wave at times. Not sure if it’s my hips or I need to not use the same position as riding surf style or what. Drives me crazy how it points sometimes but I’m sure it’s me just needing to get used to skim style. I also need to create a different wave setup for skim. At least the water looks refreshing here!

I downloaded and inclometer app and doing a poor mans version of pitch and roll. With that set up getting about 9 degrees of pitch and shifting passengers to get 5 degrees of roll for both reg and goofy. Surf mode puts the boat in a 5 degree yaw as well. I’m not seeing a big gain in fuel savings which surprises me given that I’ve dropped ballast weight almost 1200 pounds.

Beat part of this new setup is can switch immediately to wake boarding w no change in ballast. Gravity 1 system put 400 pound bag on the floor in the back under the seat as an option. Running 570 in rear ski locker seems a little better. No bags in the boat totally feels like I’m cheating the system here. So much better

Never been that far north on Winnebago- We usually put in at Rainbow Park in Oshkosh and either boat up toward Fremont or down south a bit on Winnebago to an area called “The Cove”. The Cove is a great place to hang out- is a huge shallow area with a firm sand bottom.

Thankfully our boating friends grew up boating on Winnebago and surrounding lakes/rivers and have been great guides. Majority of the boating we do is out there.

Also, the Wolf River that runs up to Fremont is surprisingly deep (up to 20’), the lakes in between are very shallow 6-7’ shallow.

Foils are the craziest things. You are only up a few feet out of the water but you feel like you are 10 feet out. It is not a comfortable feeling for me at all! I enjoy riding the foil but man it is a weird sensation being out of the water that much.

What length of mast are you using? I have yet been able to get up on the foil, and curious if a longer mast might help.

Also, what rope length are you at? I was trying to be in 2nd wake, but looks like you are at about 30-40ft and out in front of first wakes tail.

Its such an amazing feeling flyin that foil. The only pucker was when I started initially. And once I got the hang of riding it it makes surfing seem boring. Surfing with the kids was the first time I had surfed in over a month. The foil doesnt need ballastn and doesnt need louder speakers to hear the music. Its a win win situation for me. Most fun I have had behind a boat in years.

I used an 18 in mast to get up and learn the mechanics of the board. Slingshot has a whole range of masts to help you learn and move up as you progress. I had such a hard time with the tall mast until I went shorter and learned how to work the board. Try moving your rear foot forward as well to keep it from flying right off the bat. Just switched back to my 28 in mast now that I can ride and pump just a bit. I am using a cut up wakeboard rope in that pic, since I cant stop running over my long lines lol( 2 this year, not real happy bout it) so im not in an ideal spot to get the second wake at that length. 65 ft puts me in the second wake , but with this short rope I have pulled my self into the first wake and rode it and actually gotten slack in the line which tells me Im getting some push!

It really was! The boat performed almost flawlessly for four days straight. I had to restart one rider on a wakeboard due to the perfect pass doing something weird and I had the boat speed a couple of times drop off fairly dramatically and then return back to the set speed but both times it was out of the course so no problem. The only think that was a bit of a pain was that I can’t set the Center plate at idle. The distance from the start dock to the beginning of the wake course wasn’t super long so I entered the course a couple of times before I had gotten the plate set to what the rider had requested. Other than that, that boat did a fantastic job. Zero complaints after any of the pulls and lots of compliments about the shape of the wakeboard wake and the push of surf wave. The pro surfers had me running the Center plate at 100% because it formed such a long wave and still had lots of push. Dam, one rider landed a Big 7 behind the boat!

Yes we do need to ride. What to weekdays look like in the evenings?

I have this higher dollar Exo Board and Foil setup. Carbon, more high-tech, supports my weight of 230#. Supposed to be a good cruiser for 1st and 2nd wakes. Problem is, I CANNOT RIDE IT. Even my buddies that are good have a few issues getting up on it. They can ride it, but since they are not used to riding it, it takes them a few to get up and learn the characteristics. The board is pretty short.

So the guy selling the Exo setup gave me a Slingshot Board (4-6) and a Phase Five Nova Mast/Wing to use for the summer. It's a whole lot easier for me to get up and cruise. Most of the companies sell this wing setup or something very similar.

I also trying different combos - like the Slingshot board with the better foil.

What foil are you riding Mark? We still need to get together and ride sometime!

The board is pretty short and it 'bucks like a bronco' when you first get it out of the water.

I’m giving this one till the end of summer. Not worried about selling it, b/c there are people looking for them.

Just did not want to write it off too soon.

Would like to try it out for sure! My evenings are crap working at the hospitaln I dont get home until about 8pm. I havent heard a whole lot on the evo foils, i went with Slingshot and have been pretty happy so far. If I get good enough to ride ropeless I am gonna sell it and get an axis setup. No one else has any interest in the foils so its been difficult to try different combos. What makes it so hard to ride?

We had an awesome day out yesterday. Weather report wasnt looking great earlier in the week but it cleared up and was amazing. Went out for the wifes birthdayn had a good crew of 8 which made the mini mondo have its best ever wave for my port side riders! First time I have ever seen anyone surf my port side ropeless! I also had my first new rider on the foil and with a few tries he got up and rocking out on the foil! Im not the best at takin pics but my wife caught some good shots that day. Her faves included me looking bored to tears while driving the boat and a pretty good wipeout by my buddy. All in all a perfect birthday outing for her and a beautifuln low traffic day on the water.

So our big July trip was supposed to be brownlee reservoir in Idaho, but given my collarbone surgery in June and my wife's knee surgery in June we decided to go to prineville reservoir. Unfortunately, the wife found out the day before we were to hit the road that the boat launch was closed at prineville. That would have really sucked. Do we decided to do half the week in Idaho and the other half we flew down to SoCal for theme parks (and my bucket list item of eating at club 33. If your know, you know).

Tons of problems traveling to Idaho (in addition to twice the driving miles vs prineville at 8mpg). Dealt with other issues like ac not working the first night, the camper toilet was leaking fresh water (not black), the RV faucet wasn't getting good for, getting a campsite downwind getting the dump station, bilge pump tripping repeatedly, and the downpipe from my homemade fresh air exhaust breaking off and falling in the lake, and 1 of my tower amps died and half the amp dirt my cabin speakers too. Trailer bearings lost a cap on the way to Idaho and another on the way home. Massive blowout on the way home with one tire, a spare that wouldn't hold air and a 3rd tire with belt poking out that somehow got us home...

But a fantastic trip with 75+ degree water that was smooth well into the afternoons and no other boats making it feel like we were on a private lake. I could only surf and foil with my collarbone still healing, add the wife wasn't able to surf yet after knee surgery, but it was a great trip and we'll be back. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220810/3f9bc53fb33fc461bc24ae5cabd5cca7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220810/0110d6dd13624591ad3f47e890f4d2cf.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220810/cd0c859b9ca1f40a34af1fbd2a2d8a76.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20220810/cd838572255de7b6434fe7f58573241b.jpg

The lack of mobility with the collarbone fracture set me back, but I'm getting more consistent with the 360s. The last couple weeks I've ridden 1 away each trip out on the water...

4th of July was a little different for us. Our big fireworks show we watch from the Columbia River was again cancelled and we didn't feel like braving the madness of the Portland blues festival fireworks. So we were on the water all day, with lunch at a floating restaurant, and ultimately of the water by 5pm and home for the evening. Still no skiing or wakeboarding, but I got the foil out...

I'm feeling old or been on here too long. I recall you posting family pics and he was just a little guy.
