Hello,
Recently purchased a 2018 max, great boat.

Did not notice there was a small ding on the prop when I purchased it, Dang!

Currently it has a OJ wakepro 15x13, seams to be fine, I think it vibrates sometimes, haven't put too many hours on it yet, Otherwise seams fine.

We are mostly going to be using for Surfing, but also wakeboarding and skiing for guests. We are still beginners on the surfing.

We keep the boat on a lift and don't usually go far distances, but would like a decent cruise speed. Usually we will have 4-8 people on board, and 2 dogs :)

Stock ballast but looking to add 1500-2000 lbs.3027030271

I see the OJ-945 and 2419 recommended, and even the 1234? I think.

Ding is not too bad, so I will either repair and keep as a spare, or get professionally fixed and keep as a spare.

Any recommendations would be helpful,
Thanks,

You might want to call OJ Props and talk to Eric. I recall 948 was the newer version of the 945 or 951 with a more cup.

Also, be careful when reading about new MAX boats. They change the trans ratio from 2018.

Surf option prop for 1:5 trans was OJ 945. That’s the same prop I run on my 2019 and it does great for sea level. I run anywhere from 5,000 to 5,800 ish lbs of ballast. Top speed is still high 30’s low 40 mph. Cruising at 25 ish mph my RPM is around 3200-3300 range IIRC.

Thanks for the reply, I did not know about the trans ratio.

I called Eric he recommended the 1922, 15 x 12.5, and if I buy it from them they offer a free prop repair.

Thanks,
Bruce

That sounds like a good deal. I don't think your repair will be a hard one. That bend isn't terrible, and honestly you could probably get some of that out with a couple of crescent wrenches yourself and make any vibration you are feeling much less. But, if you're gonna get the new one, just go ahead and let them take care of it.

I would always keep two props, that way if you ding one, you can have a backup while you get the other fixed.

I have the factory wake prop and an aftermarket surf prop, and honestly depending on the summer is how I chose my prop.

This summer we have a lot of family visiting and I see a lot of people and surfing so I have the surf prop on LOL

It's lake Gaston on the Va. NC border.

We are off the main lake, so it's smoother where we are.

Thanks all for suggestions, keep them up..

Leaning towards the one OJ props recommended, the 1922, that way I'll have a spare as needed.

I may try to readjust it a little.

Went down to OJ on Tuesday, to drop off a prop for repair, amazing folks to deal with. Had my kids with me since they were out of school and they even hooked my boys up with some lil swag bags. They told me if I had brought it in earlier in the day they would have had it done same day. Thats the kind of service I miss.
