Spare tire location.

My dealer text me this morning and our new sl550 just arrived. On reviewing the photo on the hauler it looks like the spare tire is underneath the trailer vs on the side. I know on the build we had added the side mount spare. I haven’t talked to them about this yet, just curios what everyone’s opinion is. I thought I liked the look of the side mount better, but now I almost think the under mount looks cleaner? Thoughts ?

If you have nice 18’s, most would use a side mount to “show it”.

Underneath mounts are more $$$ and I guess less show.

Matter of preference.

Actually never seen an under mount in the wild.

I agree with that. I did get the 18s with the flake accents. Looking back on Supra’s site the under mount is about $250 more as well. I’ll be interested to see what they have to say when I grab it tomorrow.

I will try and get some pictures uploaded. Quick question for you. Does your new sl triple axle trailer have a 2” or 2-5/16 ball. My 2020 sl tandem axle was a 2” but thinking maybe this is different on the new triple?

My triple axle has a 2-5/16" ball.

Interesting that they removed wheels on both Tri axle trailers.

back to op's original question, we have had both side and under. depending on the grade of the launch ramp, I had a HORRID time in wisconsin with the under mount. I blew a tire once and scratched up the rim with the bow hook several times from the under. we had to be careful loading with the under. after that, I vowed to NEVER have an undermount again. it was only an issue on the ramp in wisconsin we used. never an issue in Idaho with same trailer.
if I paid for side, I'd force boatmate/dealer/skiers to fix it if it was me.

I would hope it isn’t but hard to tell from the picture.No. Look at the trailer frame under the bow and you will see a red padded cross bar it is resting on with straps holding the frame down to it. It's just extending over the other boat.

I think I’m going to see if they can remove it and refund me that option amount. I don’t think it will be real hard to weld one on the side. Fortunately the front of the trailer is black so paint match should be easy. I’ll know in a few hrs.

From a looks perspective I think I’d rather it be mounted below. Cleaner lines when looking at the boat and trailer from the side without some wheel and tire hanging off it. You already have 6 wheels to show off so I don’t think a 7th on the side it going to mean much to anyone else lol. I know it wouldn’t to me lol. I suppose I just like the cleaner look of it hidden or underneath even though it might not be as practical as a side mount.

After having an undermount on our travel trailer, I would opt for the side mount. When towing the boat, I’m dressed for the lake, not changing tires, and the last thing I want to do is crawl underneath the trailer to retrieve the spare.

Talked to the dealer about the undermount spare. After looking at it in person I’m going to leave it. It’s really out of the way and does clean up the look on the right side of the boat. It’s just one pin to pull and the assembly hinges down to access the tire. Not as bad as I suspected.
A few pics from tonight. It was getting pretty dark when we got back. And a pic of our previous sl with my little one sad to see it go.

We looked at all other options and then I came across the videos of Tony and Leah building their Supra’s. His was the inspiration for our build. I will say raspberry looks nothing like the actual color on the builder. It almost shows it as pink

We were so bummed that Skiers discontinued the orange flake. We would’ve ordered that color if it was offered.

That was probably the boat. I recall viewing it online for sale.

Not sure what it sold for, but that's where I bought my 2021 Makai from. I asked him what the best was he would do on that Supra and he told me 130K. Looking back at things now, that was a good price considering all that happened in the market just a few weeks afterwards. It was loaded out for sure.

So true. Still in good spot buying that 21 Makai. Well, for anyone that bought a 21 before the multiple price hikes.

Wait until 2023 when SC is supposed to redo the SE. More features. Better features. Bigger price tag. Those SEs from a few years old will be still be holding a good value on the market.
