Factory speaker issue

I have a 03 Outback and I noticed in the fall that I had a speaker basically ready to fall apart. All 4 screw locations cracked and broke. On the speaker, not the boat. I have never taken 5 of the 6 speakers out ever. Just wondering if anyone has had similar issues. Did Moomba replace the speakers? Any good ideas on aftermarket marine speakers?

My boat came with those surface mount gray speakers and I had one of them crack all four corners and it rattled around a lot! A few others cracked and looked bad so I replaced them all. The sound difference is incredible!! I did not realize how bad those speakers were. Check out the links in my signature for the install.

Those are the same speakers I have. So, bottom line, buy 6 new speakers.

I replaced mine with Infinity 602M they sound much better than the factory speakers. They also fit the same holes.

Were you able to use these infinity speakers without having to make the larger rings like JesseC?

DeepCove, the infiniti speakers from what I have been told are almost a direct replacement. They are "Top Mount" just like the factory ones. I used the Polks because I wanted to match my tower speakers. I have also read that some of the members here have fit the 6 3/4" speakers. It seems like they cut different size holes in the different years. I tried the 6 3/4" but they would not fit the front. Good luck.

those stock speakers are garbage, you will be much happier if you replace them

they sound great.my factory speakers pulled through like that also.

Did these speakers fit the stock speaker diameter? Do they sound good?

Yes they fit mine in the boat ,I left the stock ones up front and disconnected.They sound great.

The new one in the back[4] sound great.I left the stock speakers in up front but they are not hooked.They still sound like crap.Guess I should proof read before I post. :lol:

I did the same thing...I replaced the 4 in the boat but not the bow. After cranking the stereo I disconnected the bow speakers.

No....they only sound great when disconnected...definently a huge improvement over being connected.

Sorry for the poke... :roll: .............I'm trying to get another year or two b4 changing out mine. So far the factory ones have been adequate, all still work, the grills still look good, but we all know there is better to be had.

Now is a great time to think about upgrading - cardomain.com is closing out the Polk db650's for $56.99 a pair (I think shipping is even free). These speakers are marine certified. I replaced my stock speakers with these (although I paid more for them, unfortunately) and the difference is amazing. Not only do they sound much better, they look a lot better too. Pretty easy switch - I did have to drill new holes for the screws but that's no big deal and otherwise they're a perfect fit for the stock holes.

I installed 6 new Polk db650's this weekend. Look and sound great. They do not quite match the imprint from the old speakers. But that will be OK. They sound great. Even the wife said "those look way better". Also added the chrome cup holders. Makes a big diff. Now we need some warm weather in SE MI. Thanks All.
