I figured I would post this on here as I value most of yalls opinions more than other forums I am on. My 2011 F-250 has the Motor Craft Orange Coolant in it. Apparently they no longer make it any more, so what should I use to top it off?
I was told by the guy I called at my local dealership's parts counter to just mix in the yellow but I know better than that lol

I think this should help ya.
Yellow is backwards compatible.

The orange stuff Ford used....was it the same as the Dexacool GM used?
If so, GM still sells it but I know most people hated the stuff.

Dexcool and Ford orange is not the same and are not compatible.
That said, I have used Dex for 25 years and never had an issue with it.
Gelling happens when you mix the wrong coolants with Dex.

I did not think they were the same, but good to know for sure.
I have Dex in both of the trucks and no issues either. Gasket issues was a huge problem at first but that was fixed years ago.
This post actually reminded me it is time to dump and refill my truck before winter hits.
Thanks guys!

Hmmm interesting. I've been using Prestone dex-cool in our 2011 for about a year now mixing it as I couldnt find motorcraft orange and everything I read said it was ok to do so, even their label does:confused: Maybe up to 3/4 gal or so on it so not much. That truck has the radiator that drips about 1 cup every 6-8 months and has done that now for 8 years, so no plans on fixing it yet. Our 2019 has the newer yellow. Good to know I can just buy it now and only keep one on my shelf vs two different kinds. Now wondering if it would be a good idea to flush the 2011 out and start fresh with yellow.

I would flush and use the yellow

Sure would be easier if they would quit changing stuff around. Time to get some yellow on order!

Agreed! I will just top off with the yellow and then do a flush in a few months.

Reality is they all mix, but some combos reduce longevity and cause gelling concerns with time.
Best to flush and start over.

be careful. that "steer in the right direction" might have you mounting some thrusters to your rear bumper of the rig.... :p:p
