View Full Version : Heater installation 2020 Mojo

Since the end of summer is near us and my wife gets cold easily it’s time to install the heater.
I just ordered the kit https://www.bakesonline.com/heater-craft-200-pro-series-complete-heater-kit.html
Now the challenge is going to be installation.
Im planning on mimicking the manufacturer set up including yawing hash switches.

Does anyone here have a cooling system diagram for the raptor engine? Or if you have a heater would you mind taking pictures to show where the supply and return is?
Also which switch on the dash is dedicated to the heater?

I have a 2020 with the factory heater. I will take some pics and send them off to you.

When you open the engine hatch the heater lines will be on the back right if you're standing in the boat. There will be a little loop of heater hose, you'll remove that and then run your supply and return.

You will also need a circulation pump for the raptor motor:

Thank you. Very much appreciated. I will try to document the entire install for anyone else to use.

Thank you for the info. Can you tell me why would I need recirculating pump? Is it to improve the flow?

The raptor motors don't have enough coolant flow through that circuit at low rpm without the pump, all of the factory installs have a circ pump.
Without it your heater will only be useful at higher rpm

I just got a quote from Bakes.com. For the pump, 2 fittings and 1 harness…$405. That’s on top of $550 for the kit.
If it wasn’t for my wife I would choose cold. Lol [emoji38]

That’s a really decent price considering that is close to the heater option price from SC.

I should have it all this Wednesday so this will be a busy weekend. Lol

What’s really funny is that if you flip the tag for ACC switch is actually labeled Heater.

Stay tuned for pics and install video.

Hey Tommy2slow would you mind posting pics of the motor hose connection and placement of the blower. Thanks in advance

Hi Emilware,

My engine has blue labels with “To Heater “ & “From Heater” at the hose connections. Hard to see in the pic as I couldn’t find an angle that both were visible. The blower and hot tubes have a plastic cover that does a nice job separating them from the under seat storage. Tried to get pics of the hose routing under the hot tubes but they aren’t great. Pic of the wiring shows the yellow wire on my motor is not used. Hope this helps.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210916/eb34daf617ac1a8fdea965cb4229386f.jpg

So I was able to complete the install of the heater Kit 200 pro which I bought for bakes online.com.
The entire install took about 4 hours. It uses the factory switches for the high and low fan.

Check out the installation video.

Looks great. Glad the installation went well. That’s a great spot to install the motor and hot tubes. I didn’t realize you had a 2021 as the thread title was 2020 but all is good. We live in the north so our heater is essential. My son is training for the Canadian Wakeboard Nationals next weekend. 59 degrees in the water and 38 degrees in the air today . I will be pulling the boat out of the lake for the season as soon as we get back from the tournament .

Are you not installing a shower pump for flow through the heater?

My understanding is the raptors do not produce enough pressure in the coolant system to circulate coolant to the heater core. My pump went out and I had to bypass it for the time being.

Not getting super warm air out of mine at the moment although the blower still works fine.

Either way…nice install. Super clean!

I had all the intentions for putting one in. As a matter of fact I ordered it from SC but still don’t have a ETA so I decided to try without. So far I have tested it and seems to do well. The engine temp seems to hold good and there is enough heat coming from it.

I do have a electric water pump for VW Jetta that will arrive Monday just as a back up. It’s $50 comparing to $205 from SC or $160 from heater craft.
If I need to install it will a quick job. My plan is to put it in the engine compartment.
I’ll do a video on it too.

Awesome!!! Can you message me the details of the water pump you might supplement with? I’m running into the same issues with getting a pump. I wouldn’t mind trying a different option!

Thanks!

Guys, I know this should be trivial, but the pump is supplying to the heater versus suction from the heater on the the return loop to the engine correct?

Correct. The pump supplies increased flow to heater core from engine.

This is a really helpful thread. I have 2 dumb questions.

1- how do you wire in the pump? Can the dash switch and fuse support it?
2- how much coolant do you need to add to the engine once you’ve plumbed it in?

There is no dump question.

The dash toggle is a switch relay combo so with the 14awg wire it should be good for at least 20amp.
However the only thing that you wanna run off of the switch is the blower. The recirculation pump also known as auxiliary water pump needs to run the entire time that your engine is running.
Basing it on the past experience there’s probably a set of leads that you can easily connect to the same way as they found the leads for the blower. Otherwise I will run it off of one of the engine relays.
For your information 75% manufactures try to come in as their part so wire harnesses are the same whether you have all the options or you don’t.
I design Robotics automation and assembly systems for most of the car manufactures and I commonality is the key to keeping the cost down.

Now back to the topic. I didn’t measure exactly how much coolant I had to add but what I did was:
1. Topped off the coolant reservoir
2. I took a small funnel and I filled out the hoses going from the engine to the heater coil.
You have to be quick on reconnecting. [emoji23]
This prevented having bunch of air in the system and the hot coolant circulated within a minute or so.

Hope this answer your question

Btw, the entire install from beginning to the end took less than four hours and if I’m able to use the aftermarket pump the entire cost of the heater install will be less than $620 which is $340 less than OEM option.

So finally the heater installation has been completed.
I have to report that everything thing works as expected.
The fan is operating from the toggle switches and the recirculating pump has been connected to the wire harness. This means that it will only turn o when the engine is running.
That was a great win in my book.

Overall It took about 5hrs to install and total was under $600.
The install was so easy that I’m contemplating on adding a second one in the bow.

This was a great and on. We used our heaters yesterday. I could not be happier.

Any chance you could post some pics on how you tied in the circulation pump (hose attachments etc) and how you wired it?

I know I still owed you a pic of how mine is wired and I didn’t forget. Going to boat tomorrow and was going to send pics but it looks like you figured it out!

Unfortunately I’m not gonna be at the boat for a couple of days and I did forget to take pictures. However my auxiliary pump is installed on the feed side of the heater coil. This means that it pushes water into the coil. Unlike water pump which needs to be on the return side from heat exchanger.

As for the Wiring, there is a plug on the V drive side of the block with the label heater only.
I had to take that apart and use the male female connectors and pins one and two. If you test it with the meter you will see that even with the ignition on and the engine not running there’s no voltage but as soon as engine is running there is 14 V DC on pins one and two.
