View Full Version : Ballast taking on water
Hi. I am new to the forum. I have a 2018 Moomba Max. I bought him new and he has been maintained and services as needed. As of this season, it is now taking on water from the center of the boat, not rear, enough to kick off the bilge every 2 hours. I am not sure where to begin to identify the problem before taking it to the dealership. I checked all of the ballast hoses and clamps, all good. Any suggestions? I looked for the schematics for the Max that show the ballast or any other potential sources, but was unable to find them.
Thanks in advance,
Angy

First off, welcome to the forum.
Next, lets see if we can get this figured out. Every 2 hours is a slow-ish leak but still not good. Have you done any ballast upgrades? Wakemakers kit, etc?
Are you on a lift or can you drain everything and then launch and check for leaks? Something that bad should show itself quickly unless it is just a ballast bag/tank.
As you know, the lowest spot of these boats is at the middle drain with the T-plug. All water will settle there, regardless where it is coming from. I would check the rear just to make sure it isn't the raw water pump seal, rudder seal, bad coolant plug (blue plastic drain plugs), or the dripless seal on the V-drive shaft under the dog house. If those all check out, then start looking at bags for air bleeds open too far and releasing water, or bad fittings. I had a bow bag that would leak at the quick-connect but only when completely full. The pressure of the bag pushing against the fitting made it leak. I had to drain and re-position my bag and refill.
