I’m looking to buy another skim style board, I have a phase five prop that I like but looking for other suggestions. I like doing spins mostly, not worried too much about cost.

I saw that exile online it looks really nice. That is purposed for wake surfing, correct not just ocean skim boarding? There is a shop near my lake that sells P5 they will demo boards for $50 and apply it towards purchase but 50 is not refundable need to buy something, thanks for your input

On the Exile site, they have a section that is for wake surfing separate from the ocean skim stuff. I have called a few times to talk to them about what is best suited for me and bought a couple boards. The full carbon hybrid is really nice as well.

Phase 5 Matrix, you can buy something else but eventually you'll end up on a Matrix, on the upside you'll have other boards for new riders until they can get on the Matrix. .. :)

Keep in mind your board has a huge fin which is like training wheels, when you switch to a non beginner board it's gonna be slippery. You can get a smaller fin on your current board that will help you improve until you upgrade.

P5 MVP has been great for me, and I have the stature of a 5’8 bowling ball.

My p5 prop has a pretty small fin I can’t imagine one much smaller - I like spin tricks so I’d think it’s good for that - I think I can handle a squirrely board after some practice

Ok I see the prop has a 2” fin and the matrix has a 1” so yeah pretty big dif - on P5 site I see the matrix and matrix LTD are there any other models that I’m missing?

No doubt. I was looking at boards all weekend. If they are in stock a $700 board is now $1000.

Thanks to dumb decision (dusk/night surfing with 2 boards) my matrix is now likely in someone else's hands. Never did find it.
I feel like there has to be another option out there, I liked my matrix but 1000 bucks is just flat out ridiculous IMO.
I ordered an Avenger to replace it and I'll see how that goes for half the price. I expect it to be a bit heavier but I'm no pro so hopefully it won't be an issue.
I know I know what's 1000 bucks for a quality board when the boat costs 130k?
It's a ripoff that's what it is ;D

The liquid Force Keen would be a legit replacement for a matrix. You can find them around $600 new.
$1000 for a board that is listed MSRP $815 is criminal.
Some places are taking advantage of the low supply right now.
Maybe add some reflective tape to your next board?
The P5 avenger is the same as matrix shape I think, just a more budget level construction.

I was looking at a Keen, best I could do was $760 shipped THD. I settled on a Primo since I suck at this surfing game anyway and for $450 shipped I felt better about my kids possibly breaking it.

I should qualify my statement, MSRP on a keen is $739 and my dealer gives me 20% off.
I ride my sons old hyperlite Shim and got my eyes on a P5 trident. Holding out for the 2022’s

Yeah the next one will likely get a strip. Couldn't believe we couldn't find it we never left the area and it wasn't that dark but it just never popped up.
Avenger is apparently the same (or very very similar) just with cheaper (read heavier) materials.
They also don't make bigger sizes (probably just so they sell more of the more expensive ones), but I was riding a 51" matrix anyway so that's fine.

Just get the CFO on a Supra, it’s amazing how things change when that happens.
Again, I love spending other people’s money.
My CFO pushed this whole wakeboat idea and my my service/maintenance department was like F all this work.
CFO won the battle.

I had to do some searching but I found a 52” 2021 key on wakeboards.com. They gave me a 5% new buyer discount, price was 898.00 all in.

This was a mirage, website said order accepted and my card was charged but when I called to see if it had shipped today they said it was out of stock and that it was a glitch in the system but they do have other boards - the old bait and switch

Heard a lot of stories like this on boards this past year. Order. Pay. Then hear they are out of stock or back-ordered.
Back-ordered . . . if you are buying new, might as well wait for 2022s this late.

There's a 56" Matrix in Canton for 750, not a terrible price for the larger board assuming it's like new
I've been researching and trying to get a Phase5 board for the past month. Sold out was all I saw. My wife was driving to the lake the other day so I could catch up some emails and calls which lead to more board research. Low and behold there were several boards and sizes available on their website. I ordered a Matrix and it showed up early this week. May be worth checking out the site on a regular basis, who know maybe a few boards will be available and sell out again quickly.

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkA few years ago, that was the board everyone was after. It was the Matrix or Hammerhead. Enter the Pros with different boards, like the MVP, the buzz switches.
Square nose at each end for revert riding. Fast. Now has that new peanut shape.
Are you looking for a Trident?

Great board for learning revert riding, but if the choice is hammerhead or matrix, I prefer the matrix. I have both. 😂

I havent read the whole thread, so not sure if this site was suggested yet. I was having trouble finding a new matrix last month. I ended up finding one, and other P5 boards through Michael Mezzetti at https://www.h2oproshop.com/collections/wakesurfers He was very helpful, and shipped it fast. I just happen to notice him post on a FB group that he had boards in stock, so I reached out. It felt like I hit the lottery LOL. Good luck fellas......

My avenger came in yesterday.
It's the same board as the matrix, but a good bit heavier not that featherlight feel of the matrix, more traditional skimboard feel.
Interestingly it shipped in a ZAP skim boards box, I didn't know zap and P5 are the same company but they are.
Probably some savings to be had there by buying a Zap skim and drilling your own holes for a fin if you want it.
I'll probably go that route next time. I've had some zap skimboards in the past and they are very nice.

I haven't ridden one, I have a koalfish and it's a good beginner board but when I lost my matrix and had to go back to riding it I hated it.
I am curious though. Also curious about the driftsun skimmer.
Talk up the high end brands all you want but a skim board is not some kind of high-tech hand shaped industry secret enigma. It's a flat bottom with a little rise at the nose and hard rails, literally the easiest board to make. The key is being light and phase five has that going on for sure. The driftsun is carbon and cheap so I may grab one just to see.
