Has anyone purchased a spare or new prop for their Makai? If so what did you buy? I am looking at purchasing a spare but wanted to get a prop with a different pitch to just try something new. I don't have any complaints with my OJ 932 so should I just buy another?

With the size and weight of the Makai, and your 450 motor and 1.76 drive I would do with the surf prop that comes on the Supra (if you can fit a 16" prop)
Acme 3591 - https://acmemarine.com/products/acme-3591-16-00-x-13-90-4-blade?_pos=1&_sid=18496ed2e&_ss=r

I know a few people have run 16" props on them with a "very little amount of gel burn" but I am not wanting any gel burn lol. Nettles recommended the Acme 2247 which is a 15x14.25 I have never run a different prop so I wont claim to know anything just thought it was interesting the recommended a smaller diameter prop.

Your 932 is 15.5 X 16.5. Which is what Moomba refers to as a general use prop. My 2021 Makai runs a 15.5 X 15. They consider it a wake / altitude prop for more power/torque. I have the raptor 400 and it pulls very well with it. I bet your 450 would really pull strong with it.

I have considered it but I am just not sure how the boat will perform with it pulling at surf speeds. I have no desire to wakeboard at full ballast with my setup lol.

OJ 1951 (15x14) which will pull good heavy for surfing - but losing 1/2" of prop
OJ 930 (15.5x15) as HFarr suggested - look to be the Moomba factory option.
ACME 2847 (15.5x15) - virtually no cup so it will pull surf well
ACME 3829 (15.5x14.5)

I can keep going but not sure you want to make that thing a tug boat. These number should get you good pulling power without too much top end loss.

Tug boat = ACME 2921 (15.5x12.5 cup 0.075)

Personally, these are tow boats and anything that gets fully loaded to surf or wake speed is better for me, as long as revs are reasonable.

I love the 16x13.9 prop, I’d there such a thing as a plate to prevent gel burn?

Anything over 25mph on plane unloaded is a waste to me.

Yes there is Dakota4ce put one on his battle ship Max. It is a small piece of gauge material that looks like a data tag and he screwed it into the fiberglass right there to protect it. Not sure I want to screw in the fiber glass where I don’t need to lol

All of these seem like good options!

TBH I have had a crew of 12 adults in the boat, full ballast and my 1k of lead and the 450 didn’t miss a beat it just eats!!

How would losing a 1/2” affect the performance? I don’t really want to go smaller in diameter if I don’t have to or it doesn’t benefit me.

Anyone have thoughts on ACME vs OJ? Is one better than the other? For what reasons?

Acme came with the boat. 1235 (14.5x14.25)
Bought an OJ because of price and pitch 945 (15x13)

I used Boat Owners World and got everything in the pic (Hard case, tools, part and prop) for $720 to my door. Only reason I chose OJ over Acme.

You were spot on with these 2 suggestions so thanks!!! 2 of the 3 people I spoke with at ACME recommended the 2847 while 1 really liked the 3829 but said the 2847 was a close second. I ended up going with the 2847. I am excited to try it out and see how it performs.

Have you had a chance to run the 2847 yet? If so, how did it compare to stock?

I’m running the 15.5x15 surf set up and like it. Just thinking about what I want for the backup.

No I haven’t had a chance to yet. Every weekend we are up at the lake house I just don’t end up with any time. I’ll put it this way I have had WM upgraded bags sitting in the shipping box for 7 weeks now LOL. I need to make a weekend trip by myself to get things done but we will see if that happens. Anyways I really want to try it out to see how it runs. Not sure home much of a difference it will make for you going between OJ to ACME with the same dimensions but I am not sure what your cup is so might be a little different. Either way I don’t see why it wouldn’t make a good spare. If you wanted something a little different you could always go with the 3829 if you can find one.
