What are people using for their trailer lock when it's not hitched up? I did a bit of searching but all of the locks I've seen are too small to fit over the actuator. Minimum clearance looks like 4.5" high x 3" wide. I have the UFP A-75HD.

Only one I could find that a sledge hammer and pry bar can’t break.

If you have a fold-away tongue, I’ve found that folding the tongue and putting a long enough (6”) locking hitch pin in the pin hole.

Or I do this. Won’t stop the determined, but it slows them down. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210601/b0cf9fbd8eaa7fc8122744c23fa4819a.jpg

After watching that video you may never bother with a Reese lock again lol. If you watch a few more of his videos you will never trust any lock ever.

Even faster is a battery powered sawzall and a fresh metal blade. I used a lock like that and lost the key. Assumed it would take me 2 blades to get through it. 10 seconds later and basically no noise it was on the ground just cutting through the round hoop on the top.

I now pull the pin on the trailer swing open the tongue a couple inches and use a master lock disc padlock (https://www.masterlock.com/products/product/M40XD)

IMO a lock is to deter opportunists. Anyone with a brain that really wants it is going to get it.

A battery grinder or sawzall which are 100 bucks will go through any lock you can put on there in a matter of seconds.

I put one on mine, just to keep some dumbass from driving by half drunk and deciding to take it. I have insurance for real thieves.

I love the Lock Picking Lawyer videos. He has mamy of them defeating just about any lock out there. I would like to see him break into that camping world Vault lock though. Bet he could only get in through the keyway.

I just need them to remain in camera view for a few seconds showing what they are doing. After that, it’s giving my pals at PD something to do.

My best hitch lock is the storage facility. I only need to lock up when I have the boat overnight at the house.

If I have to leave it exposed I usually back it into a tough spot and leave the truck hooked up and take the keys inside. A lot harder to move the truck than it is to break into a trailer lock.

I use this lock and works great.

Master Lock - Universal Size Fits 1-7/8", 2", and 2-5/16" Couplers - Trailer Locks #389DAT https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MYCT0LG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_VNVWPVDCMT8AGQZDY7ZM

Boat is in our driveway so I do the same as above. Park truck close up to hitch and lock it. Almost (although not exclusively) impossible to steal boat.
