Funny I was just at my tint guys shop getting some signs made and made and he told me he wouldn't do anything but 5% on my boat
(he has tinted every vehicle I've ever owned)

Your picture really shows why you should go dark on a boat!
Actually looking at it I'm wondering about darker.. Then again would like to be able to see something at night..

But looks amazing!

Yep, with so much natural light in a boat , it makes it look like 20% on a car/truck.

Not sure if they make darker than 5%.

You start stacking it haha
My truck back glass measures around 2% I think its 15% with 5% on top, you can stick your hands to the glass and can just make out shapes inside.
Front windows are 5% and windshield is 50%

They do! Flat black in the spray paint aisle.

I don’t think you can find a tinter on earth that would stack a Supra windshield, one layer is hard enough with three compound angle glass.

Call me a hater but I don't love it. Makes the windshield look like one piece of glass at a glance which IMO doesn't go with the sharp lines of the boat.
Thanks for saving me some money though :D

My mother always says if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all......but hey, I was never good at listening to her much :D

Not for everyone, the new frameless windshields are a love it or hate it.

Varilex makes the new Supra windshields. Taylor made made the 18-20 duo curve glass.

I think varilex does the bu windshields

Can’t lease a 250 and not buying a truck that will be redesigned in 1-2 years.

Plus not driving a 250 as a daily, yuck.

But I built a 7.3l tremor that was $4k more MSRP than a 150.

When my 2019 150 is due, I will see where the new 250’s are.....

I have 20% now but definitely going 5% next time. I almost never boat at night, so no heartburn from going super dark.

Well done sir!

Does the Mrs. complain about the tint being too dark? I think I'm going to get mine done but she is my only tow pilot and if I piss her off, well you know how that goes...

Does the Mrs. complain about the tint being too dark? I think I'm going to get mine done but she is my only tow pilot and if I piss her off, well you know how that goes...The Mrs never complained. I have ceramic tint, so I touted the lower dash and surrounding temps from the beginning. Any Co-pilot that spends time sitting in the OB spot can attest as to how you can bake near the glass.

It's obviously hard to keep an open air cabin cool but we have two little ones so every lil bit helps.

As for driving, as long as she doesn't have super dark sunglasses on, she's fine. She's on the bolster too.

I tend to drive above my windshield anyways, typically once I get a spray of water on the glass, I can’t see through it anyways.

I gotta say we REALLY liked the look of tint on a boat until our last one came tinted from prior owner. it looked great but the GF HATED that it made it tougher to drive during the day and at 5ft3 she can't see over the frame without standing up so visibility through the glass was required. you can't see $hit out of a tinted front at night. we took it off after first season and can also say that was an all day mess for 2 of us.

if you only use it during the day go sit in a tinted boat and see if you like it but if you run at night at all, I'd recommend passing altogether.

Looks great Larry! 5% is the only way to go. People complain about driving at night, that's especially when I look over my window, it's not a cabin cruiser. Someone commented ceramic, it's not needed and have had a few installers say it does 0 on the boat as it's open air and not closed cab.

I believe LLumar 5% non ceramic was used. My understanding is llumar is easier to stretch with heat.

How will it do with rapid hot/cold changes. Our regular lake can get to high 30’s to high 90’s pretty quickly. I’m sure the stretch affects contraction, and ripples or edge pulling could happen with frequent hot/cold stretch/contract cycles.

Not worried about it at all, my tinted vehicles see far more extreme temperatures and conditions than my boat ever will.

Was thinking the same thing...30 to 90 is nothing...How about -30 to 90! Both our vehicles have tinted windows and never had issues..

In automotive, we test -35C(-31F) to +85C(185F)

Pretty tough getting an automotive interior past +74C (165F) but Death Valley has measured higher.

Keep in mind, auto interior get the oven effect so much higher temps than air temperature.

-35C(-31F)

that's a balmy winter day in green bay ;)

death valley is hot AF but laughlin/bullhead city and the mojave valley are only a couple degrees behind and in the winter/spring are hotter occasionally. lots of window tint companies here and most of the new car dealers install tint prior to selling cars in the mid-price and higher ranks.

To hell with it I just might do it when she’s working a weekend!
