Hi All
New to Wake surfing and Moomba Boats, I am purchasing a 2019 Moomba Max and I am wondering if I will need a wave shaper to get a good clean wave?
Thanks

short answer no.
search out dakota4ace and haknslash. they have a max and can point you in the direction of any meaningful mods to get the most out of the boat in their prior posts and modifications threads. you will likely want to add more weight in the form of water or lead ballast tho.

as they say... post up pics of your new whip once you sign on the paper or you didn't buy it :) everyone loves boat porn.....

First owner did upgrade to 4000lbs of ballast. Thanks for info I will search them out.

4,000 lbs is a good start but she's a big boat and unless you have a large crew all the time you may find you'll want some a little extra ballast. Since you have 4k lbs I'm assuming you have the stock rear and center bow bag but the previous owner plumbed in two 500 lb bags for the midship lockers? If so that is a good mod to get you started but the boat would benefit from some added weight in the rear and bow to help get the whole hull to sink a but further thus displace more water.

No need for a wake shaper on these boats as the surf system offers nice shape and a lot of versatility in shaping the wave at your fingertips. You can't get that with a wave shaper.

That's a nice wave, very tall. What is your speed?. I bet you could speed up an extra 1-1.5 miles, add a couple feet to the pocket and still have plenty of height. How much total weight is that?

I typically surf at 10.8-11 depending on water conditions. Those pics were with ~4,500 lbs of ballast. This season I’ll have a little over 5,000 lbs with the additional 500 lbs of lead I’ve added. This is another angle to give an idea of pocket size with last years ballast setup at 10.8 mph...

Of course sometimes it’s fun to mess around with settings and make insane looking waves lol....

Nice, that wave looks really long and tall, looks the crest is above the level of your hips, even all the way back there.
