View Full Version : Question about Supra boat key

As y’all know we just took delivery of our 17 SA. Funny enough, my wide was disappointed with the actual keys we got [emoji23]. She expected a nice set of keys with plastic on them like the boat should have. Instead we got 5-6 keys that look like they came from a master lock.

It doesn’t bother me but I’m asking for her. Does anyone know if we can source copies from SC or a template of the “nice” Supra keys?

Thanks in advance.

My 2018 came with a nice key and the spare was the master lock style, I am sure any Supra dealer has the nice key.

Are you on the Facebook page? Christopher Myers makes nice color matched 3D printed key jackets.

A good locksmith can make a key anyway you want.

You are looking for a Supra key cover or key surround.

Larry - correct. Or I assume as much. Wife pulled the “we just spent 85k and we got these lock keys?!”

The nice looking keys do have a jacket of some sort or the “handle” if you will is much nicer.

You can see the nice key if you zoom in a bit....https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210130/826333b3c3cae0ef692a4b5ad71a5065.jpg

Dealer did have one and I purchased it. It is just a jacket. $80 for a piece of metal. [emoji849]

But you know what they say

thinking the same thing. I'd pass on that without even thinking about it. it's only a key and frankly our last 2 boats, I never removed them from the ignition...

Boat Tax. lol. If spending $80 makes your wife feel better about the boat, it will be the best $80 you ever spent.

No doubt, but holy Supra tax.

@SONIC, add boat key surrounds to your billet parts to make list.

I wish Supra would get away from the key altogether!! My other buddies all have Malibus or Nautiques are always giving me sh_t for having to put a key in or getting down to the boat slip and forgetting the key.

I agree, it’s kinda strange to have a key to turn AND then a start button.

Not sure how Nautique or MaliBU do theirs, a digital code would suck too.

I would prefer the automotive style where you just have the key fob on you or in the boat and then hit the start button.

I plan to leave key in ignition full time.

New Supra's are push button start.

You have to turn the key clockwise then push the button to start the new ones.

Nautiques use a code that you set, I believe Malibus are the same thing.

I will be honest that I don’t know how the new Supras push buttons behave, but hopefully......

1)Leave key in the run position full time.

2)Hop in boat, turn battery switch on. Newer Supras you can reach battery switch from captains seat.
3) push button start.

That is correct. I never touch the key on my boat, just push button and battery switch. I don't see the big advantage of a code. I guess I've never checked if the vision system has a disabling code that one can activate. My 2000 Polaris jet ski had one.

The code would annoy me far worse than a key.

Love that Supra moved the battery switch for such easy access.

Just like the Ford keypads on the door, I have never used mine. Key fob is preferred and kings entry(key fob on you) is superior yet.

Not sure on the 20-21 models, but there is something with the 19s where you have to turn the key off to get the seat to move down/forward automatically when putting the tower down, or something along those lines, this obviously has to be done before killing the power at the battery switch. The tower hitting the seat might not be an issue with the new driver's seat but not sure.

I will let you know tomorrow as I close on my boat tomorrow, I will “try” the seat thing.

The new seat alone should eliminate the tower crash condition. But I know the seat does lower and move rearward as tower is lowered.

we pulled key out and took with when we ate on the river in green bay. never heard about boat theft but didn't ever want to be the first one that went on a joyride.
stupid thing is you can reach up under the dash and hotwire any of these boats in a minute or 2. it's not like the ignitions are in a column that are hard to get into.

I can't understand with the price of these things today that they don't all have coded start like nautique/bu. they have been using them for a couple years. should be there if you need it and able to be disabled and start button is always hot if you want.

Had someone once steal the key from the ignition when we were at a park. I ended up leaving the function for a 20 mile round-trip ride to my house to get another key. Since then, I always hide a key on the boat.

I’m so scared I’m going to drop the key, I put two floats on it. It would be my luck to lose it in the depths of our lake. Why didn’t they put a floating jacket on it?

$80 is why!

Keys, phone, bottle opener all go in a waterproof pelican case with a float on it. My clumsiness has no bounds, and I’m related to Murphy.

On my 21, Key or key off, as you lower the tower, the seat moves down and back.
