Hey all, first post here. Pulled the trigger and put a 2021 Mojo on order. Now agonizing over color combos.

First boat so I’m kind of jumping into the deep end. Not much (read none) experience other than towing the kids around the lake behind my dad’s 17 foot fishing boat, but all the folks wakeboarding and surfing around the lake sure did look like they were having fun! Last summer I promised my kids I’d buy a boat when I upgraded at my airline, and as soon as I got back from training they called me on it lol. Kids sure have great memories when it doesn’t involve chores!

Anybody else jump in with both feet without someone else showing them the ropes? Worried I’ll be a bit in over my head this June.

Welcome and congrats. I can attest to jumping in with both feet on a wakeboat and have only one regret, that I didn’t jump in sooner. The last 3 summers have been a blast with the family.

There is a learning curve, first driving (docking) a v drive is a challenge.

Setting up a surf wave also has a learning curve.

Supra/Moomba has some Autowake basics on you tube and there is an Autowake thread on this forum with tons of information.

This forum is very helpful, so don’t hesitate to ask questions.

Congrats!
Like you we have ordered a new Mondo this year after our neighbors showed us how to wakeboard. Our only water experience is with our pontoon and jetski. Looking forward to the summer already.

I do really like that combo, but from what i can find the light brown(honey marlin)on the builder looks way darker then the light browns i can find online.

I agree the builder needs some better color accuracy, yet SC has the only worthwhile builder on the market.

Yep, much lighter in real life.
Here is honey/honey with honey accent and black welt on the the 2021 Craz we test drove.

Still looks good though - and it’s what I ultimately chose.

Awesome! I was going to go with the Mondo till I realized it wouldn’t fit in my garage height wise. It’s a sweet 20 foot boat.

That’s a really sharp color combo. This is what I’m currently pondering; I’m sure it will change a time or two before we have to lock it in.

Does anyone have anything bad to say about that much black? Showing scuff marks, getting too hot in the sun etc?

Contemplating between 5% and 20%.

5% looks better from exterior, but does reduce visibility.

Just look over the windshield as most everyone else does. Even with clear windshields, looking through it instead of over really limits my vision, not sure how people do it. Especially when pulling a rider.

I think the key is taking it out far before June to learn the ropes. Avoid weekends and holidays as you get used to trailering, launching, and operating the boat. The stress really comes in when it’s crowded and your margin for error is minimized with all the other boats and vehicles. Your job gives you some advantages....such as ...I assume you get your fair share of weekdays off.....a Tuesday morning in early May is a great time to go practice docking stress free. You also have experience with operating big equipment with lagged response as well as a working knowledge of drift..crab..etc...Zero doubts you will pick it up in no time.

Congrats on the Mojo, Congrats on your upgrade, and Congrats on being able to hold on to the left seat with all this junk going on. You will make the most amazing memories for you family in the summers to come.

if you boat at night you will never be able to sit and drive. tint is a personal preference but still not sure why anyone would tint the front. it's illegal in a car for a reason and add water, rocks, no night lights and.......
last boat we bought used had 5% and no lie it looked badass but what a pita and finally ripped it off last winter. took 2 of us a full day to clean it all off but that next trip out, what a night and day difference in visibility. gf commented she could actually drive the boat to the cove while sitting.
this from someone who has 2 of our 3 cars tinted..

that said the dark blue and white craz is an awesome color combo... love the graphics and how they are not all solid.... tower base and bimini arms same color would really set it off......

Thanks for the feedback. I agree, driving at night with tint is not a great idea. I live on the lake and also have a Manitou tritoon with wrap around LEDs and no windshields. We use that boat after dusk - too many inexperienced drivers going way to fast in the evening, and I prefer to be on the boat that’s lit up like a Christmas tree - if I go out at all.

Also, when I pull riders I always sit up and look above the the windshield- just feel more comfortable.

If I get the tint it will be mostly for looks.

Thanks on all counts. I have a spray date in April so May is as early as I’m going to be able to get started. But yea, I’m planning on getting out mid-week before the season starts so I can make all my bonehead mistakes by myself.

You think as far as getting the kids surfing YouTube is a good enough instructor at least initially? Or should I find someone to come along and instruct the first couple trips?

Hoping that with the vaccine the world can get back to normal sooner rather than later.

Not a bad idea to see if you have a local surf/wake instructor.

We have a really good local surf/wake school and they offer instruction on surf/wake and wake boat driving and wake set up.

I learned the boat pretty quick though and my boat surfed out of the box.

But my son have taken a handful of wakeboarding lessons and it is worth it.

I know my dealer did a 2 hour lake delivery. We took notes as there was a lot for a first time wakeboat owner.

Went over all the autowake, surf systems, audio system, basic boat driving etc.

I am pretty sure he said we go out twice. I’m guessing that more covers trailering, launching and boat operation more than how to teach your 9 year old how to surf though.

Agree, I was just suggesting your dealer likely will give you some Vdrive pointers, plus setting up your boat to surf.

Actual surf instruction.....YouTube or rent an instructor.

That’s the plan.

I too sit seat 100% up and on bolster when towing rider or at any speed.

I don’t ride at night much and if I do we can not be at no wake speeds.
