Wakelife.co is has 20% off for blackfriday. Anyone use their steel shot ballast bags? Looks like a pretty good price with the discount and free shipping but wondering about quality compared to other brands.

might ask leadwakes if they will match the price. they aren't too far off when they do their buy 10 pay for 9 promotion.

we have 800lbs of leadwakes and so far quality of the bags is great. just be prepped that shipping is slow as $hit. it'll show picked up by usps but it'll still be 2 weeks before you see it. I don't think 50lb bags of lead are what the usps thought they would be shipping :)

That is a good deal. If you buy the 500# package, the checkout price was $432.00 (includes shipping).
Never bought anything from that company, never really noticed them.

leadwake was $567.00 for 500#
pop-products was $468.00 for 520#

Good luck ever seeing the order.

I placed an order with these guys back when I bought my boat. After 2 months of receiving no product I had to contact them multiple times to cancel the order and get a refund.
I’m a patient guy, I don’t like to give negativity. But I’d pay the extra few bucks to go through a more reputable place. I will be.

Yes good feedback! Wakelife does have some reviews on their site but none very recent.

Prop products was not on my radar but I see them now. Pretty close in price to wakelife. Anyone have experience with the quality on prop products - Comparable to leadwwake?

Although pop products are the cheapest wake bags on the market, the bags are vinyl and don’t like too much handling/moving.

The codura 1000D material and seat belt webbing handles are far superior and worth the added cost from the other makers.

I ordered from Wakelife Oct 26th, got a tracking number Nov 10th but it shows that it has not been picked up. I emailed them this morning about the order and the deal they are running now. They have already applied the discount to my card and claim to get to the bottom off the shipping issue today.

. . . claim to get to the bottom off the shipping issue today . . .

Famous last words . . . ha ha. That cracks me up. Good luck.

I would also recommend the comment by @larry_arizona - spend the add'l $ for the lead wake bags. I've ordered twice from them over the years and the bags hold up great. There are multiple companies selling these types of bags, but are usually the cheapest straight from the source:

https://www.leadwake.com/collections/frontpage

From the website:
LEAD WAKE™ bags are 100% hand constructed using 1000d Cordura material, two layers of heavy grade vinyl and a 2″ nylon strap. There’s a 1/8″ load dispersing/impact absorbing foam layer between the shell so there’s no hard edges which also provides a smooth surface to slide the bags around in your boat. My Lead Wake bags contain ONLY 100% recycled steel material and are double machine stitched for strength and lasting durability.

just keep in mind you will have similar shipping issues with leadwake. we ordered 500lbs back in late summer. it showed ready for pickup for almost 3 weeks before they finally started moving with usps.
no proof but I suspect usps doesn't really want to pick the stuff up from them based on weight. they ship in a priority mail 1 price box and 50lbs for $15 in shipping is a good deal. I would guess he's only allowed to ship "x" number of boxes per day. I bitched a little after 3 weeks and mine moved the next day.

you're lucky. only 1 of the 2 dealers here stock it and been sold out all year. wasn't bad to order and wait. assuming it put more monies in leadwakes' pocket vs my local nautique dealer so I'm ok with that.

The quality looks good but this is the first of any Ballast bag I have seen in person. It doesn't have the foam liner like some other brands but I don't feel any sharp edges either.
The boat stays on our lift all summer and it has enough capacity for the ballast so we won't be pulling it in and out of the boat for every use. Time will tell how much we move it around in the boat.

Someone on social media was really complaining about this company last week. Never got their full order. Bad communication. Back/forth emails about a lost order. Etc. Said company did not have a phone number listed on their web site.

Owner jumped in in the thread. Talked about covid. Lots of lost orders after merchandise was mailed. I guess they post their phone number now.

Original poster was still pissed.

Yeah this order has just been the beginning of USPS issues I've had this fall/ winter. A big reason I went with Wakelife was I had been hearing about supply issues with the other mfg's but didn't understand the source of the issue. I figured the price was right so why not try a lesser known vendor. I do recall not seeing a phone number when I went to contact them about the late shipment, my gut sank, then I sent an email and was met with a quick response and immediately gave me a discount I requested. They have followed up several times to check on the status of deliveries. I have all winter to get the bags, so it's not that big a deal.

it was a good 1.5 months-ish for us to get product from leadwake. I get a sense usps is the holdup. they ever figure out how to stop shipping 50lbs in their $13 boxes it will kill the lead wake business. paying actual shipping costs for the product would be sky high.

When I order more Ballast there is no doubt I will request it goes freight. Working remotely for much of the last year I've been having tons of stuff shipped freight to my house. As long as you are there when they show up and can get it off the truck I've had no issues and get great rates on heavy items. With Ballast bags you could realistically unload by hand. USPS didn't even deliver the bags to my house, I had to go to the post office to get them... one at a time because they didn't show up on the same day. Would have been easier to go to a freight depot and get it all at once.

Here we are in February and I have only received 9 of the 10 ordered. I’ve tried emailing and contacting them through their website but can’t get a response and can’t find a phone number. if you saved one of the original boxes you should be able to get usps to check the tracking number and they can pull up the remaining 9. when I called on mine the agent was able to see all 10 boxes in their network. I ordered 350 pounds from wake life. Then the two days later I added one more bag on a second separate order. Both orders were processed and picked up by USPS in days as priority mail and I received tracking numbers

That was on Feb 22. It's now April and I haven't seen any of the initial 7 bags. The separate order of a single bag was delivered after about a month, but no sign of the initial order of 350 pounds.

Any Suggestions?

When I got my order, two of the priority mail boxes were ripped so bad from handling that I’m surprised they were delivered.

The reason for non-delivery may be a result of the packaging being damaged.

It’s an interesting play of gamesmanship using flat rate boxes for freight level weight.

Wakelife has a pretty good deal going on right now with a coupon code on their website. I can get 1000 pounds delivered LTL (freight, not USPS) for $918.00. They are doing LTL at USPS pricing when you order 20 bags, at least to my area (Salt Lake City). If I order tomorrow it will deliver by Monday. I don't really want 1000 pounds, but I figure I could pawn off 500 pretty easy and lot loose much, if anything and not have to worry about usps.

So, you guys with wakelife bags, are you still happy with them? Quality wise, how do they compare to Leadwake? My dealer has leadwake for $68 per bag, so this is a good bit of savings.

Anyone around SLC want 500 pounds?

The difference is I'm not using USPS. I'm using freight. 1000 pounds on a pallet with a forklift is an everyday thing for these guys. I'm not asking a mail man to stack 20 boxes on my door step. Sure, I purchased more than I need in order to do that, but I have no doubt I'll be able to sell off what I don't need at my cost to someone local that just needs to come to my house to pick them up.
Time will tell I guess. If I don't have them in a week we'll know its not only a USPS issue.

Tracking puts my bags in here tomorrow. The freight will all depend on your location. USPS flat rate boxes were going to cost him like $275 I think he said. He asked me to pay the difference the freight would cost. Then he got a quote for $290 and offered just to cover it all since it was so close to USPS. So 20 bags for $918 doesn't get much more cost effective. I'm not sure where they are located, but these are shipping to Utah. I'll report back once they arrive, but so far I'm very hopeful and have had no issues dealing with this company.

If they are vinyl I bet they fall apart within 1 season. The nice thing about the bags is that they are easily moved from one place to the other . I have the lead wake bags and they are super tough, used them all last season and this season so far and they are like new despite being constantly moved. Shipping did take a while though and they never come at once - a few one day, a few a week or two later and so on...

At first glance they are very nice. I would say as good as Leadwakes. This bag actually feels a bit looser which I like. I feel that it will conform better to corners and such better than the stiffer Leadwake bags. Glad I have a forklift at my house!

For the right price I could meet you in Battle Mountain. That’s a halfway point. Or if you want to look at freight I can load it on a pallet for pick-up and delivery.

Finally just ordered 500 lbs for my 2015 Mondo. Can someone give some good advice for where the best place for the 10 bags. I realize on surf side but I have heard all in back and I have heard some in back and some in middle. And also heard some in the front.Do you guys put them under the sacs in the rear compartments or just forward.?

I realize it is trial and error but just looking for some place to start.

I also talked to Spencer at wakelife. Very friendly and expects me to receive shipment in 3 weeks. Fingers crossed!!!

YouTube wake9 video on where to put lead. Great starting point

Depending on how many people you have with you. On our Mondo, we typically surfed with 3-5 people. With 5, put all 500 in the bow and have people sit on the the surf site. Ballast full, wakeplate 0-25 %. Start with ~ 11mph. Try to stay 9-10° pitch. If too high, move some to bow or speed up a little. If too low, reduce wakeplate.
If 3 on the boat, I would put 350 in bow and 150 on Surfside i.
If the boat is full you may need 2-3 people in the bow.

Now, I weight 245#'s. As a newer surfer not good at pumping, this was the only setup to give me enough push to surf.
For my kids - 150 & 180#'s, I would go a bit faster and extend the packet a bit.
On the shallow part of the lake we would slow down closer to 10 to get push, but wave was mushy.
Hope this helps:-)

Do you have Integrated bow system? We have 550 lbs in sac in bow and 650 lbs in hard tank mid ship. 500 more pounds in front seems like a lot. The bow already rides low in water with that much weight. I appreciate the advice. We have 2 teens that have no issue with wake. I'm at 180 pounds and can surf but very close to boat. Would definitely like to shorter the wave but extend the length. I guess more weight in the front would do that.

Ordered lead on Aug 8th and USPS picked it up today, Aug 27 for delivery. Who knows how long for USPS to deliver but fast processing on wakelifes part. Order was ready for pickup 2 weeks after I placed it.

Hoping it makes difference. Talk with professional surfer and he recommended 300 lbs on surf side and 200 lbs on the other side just forward of rear sacs. He said my boat needs slightly more list
than others.

Finally got out and tried the boat with 500 pounds of steel shot. OH MY GOSH. it's a completely different boat. The kids have never had an issue surfing but I had trouble with creating enough push. I had absolutely no issue with surfing with the additional weight. Would have never ever thought 500 pounds could make such a difference. Kick myself for not buying the weight sooner. Always had a tall enough wave, just not enough push. Anyone having this issue, buy some weight and place it mid ship. DISCLAIMER. I have no vested interest in any lead or steel weight bag companies. Hope this helps so.eone as much as it helped me!!!!!

I placed an order a month ago on 20 wakelife bags.
After 3 or 4 weeks I called and they told me that USPS usually is the issue and that USPS must toss them or lose them.
Nice guy I talked to we chatted a bit and I joked about how I should start selling lead because USPS has to pay for most of it which keeps sales way up.
6 bags have arrived now and I texted their support number with the update. They texted right back that they are calling USPS and hope to have my remaining 14 bags to me by early next week.

I will add a fellow moomba on my lake has 10 of the bags so I knew they were legit.

Also for anyone in SE Michigan Club Royale keeps leadwake in stock and has pallets of it.

I felt really bad for the poor USPS delivery person who had to put 500 lbs of lead on my front porch, which requires a walk up 10 stairs.

The post office wouldn’t deliver to my house. I had to go to the local post office to pick them up.
