View Full Version : New stern walk through design

It seems all the new moombas have the walk through stern, it looks cool, but it doesn't allow for much comfortable seating room at the back. Does that bug people with these new designs? I kind of like the old design, I feel like we're always sitting in the back when anchored. Maybe I'm over analyzing it. Thoughts?

I love the walk through on our 2021 Mondo. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201104/da04ba4f6dff7c6697df5fb64e607a46.jpg

They have an optional sundeck cushion that fills in the transom walkthrough if you want $200.

This, filler cushion for those that prefer the traditional sun deck, the only thing I don’t like on the newer moomba walkway is the first step up is very narrow.

I love a walkthru but along with the OP, I preferred our old 22ve walkthru much better. can actually use the sundeck and still have a walkthru. the corner seats would flip over to reveal a carpeted bottom rather than stepping on seats..
wonder why boat builders don't run this way other than cost....

I guess it seems there's only room for one butt to sit on the transom on the new boats, where my 16 mojo has room for 3 to sit across on the little step.

So you like to sit on the step, with feet on the swim platform?

I see your point, I thought you meant sitting on Sun deck with feet on step. I agree the narrow step is awkward. Supra has a full step/locker.

You could put 4-6 people on the transom of a supra using sun deck and step options.

I'm with you schwan, i love the look and the practicality of the walk through. but when we are out on the lake surfing, cruising, or just lounging around i'm glad we have the cushion over the engine. The whole area gets used a lot.

sorry, don't know why that is rotated, but you get the idea.

Coming from someone who had the traditional sundeck with a step pad vs the walkthrough on the SL, I prefer the walkthrough based on looks but not practicality. The sundeck with the step pad worked fine on the Mojo, but that being said, I like the look of the walkthrough better.

Yeah, I like supras setup with the walk through and a big area on the transom to sit, I just don't want to pay the supra money... I like that atx went all the way in with seats on the back, I just can't get over some of their other design decisions... In fact my wife vetoed the atx 24...https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201105/c60f001a24ae833b30a994ce7c22c066.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20201105/c27957a22d9bb695c0772cd63599bbf8.jpg

I wonder why most boats don’t have a full walk though? Cost to produce maybe? I wouldn’t trade our walk though for anything...but we don’t have a full crew...just the four of us and maybe another family or a few other kids is it. We definitely are 80% moving (surfing, boarding, tubing) vs 20% floating and chilling...I guess that might be a big factor?

Really looking forward to the full walk through, really disliked the walk through on my my 18 SA.

We will take full advantage of the 21SA walk through and flip up seats at the sandbar next summer.

Do you lose the center bin storage with a walk thru?

Even if it was there—getting to it isn’t easy. Have to flip up both locker covers then can flip up center.

The Supra storage in the port and starboard lockers is huge, not sure you need an over engine tray, plus don’t forget surf locker.

Lots of stern storage.

Larry is right. Ours has so much storage. Would be nice to have the ability to warm a vest, but that is easily accomplished via the sun. This upcoming season is our last in cold water, so I’m not concerned. I can fit an entire cooler in the lockers and have room for wetsuits and vests.

Throw a heater hose in your vest or throw it on the heated observers seat or hang it on the heated steering wheel ........lol

Next time I'm in my buddies SA, I'll have to look at his storage. It has upgraded ballast. Not sure if he has bins anymore. Surf storage is meh. I wish I had it, but I wouldn't trade the bins for it. To me its only good for an extra board, noodles, floats or something like that. Stuff I don't usually carry. Personally, I'd prefer the center bin, but its certainly not a decision maker for me. I'll take an SE with no storage for the right price lol.

I look for storage for keeping surf boards out of sight when docked. If we are eating at a marina or docking a friend's place, having my surf boards sitting out gets me thinking about the opportunity for theives.

I can fit some in the passenger hatch and the skims in the back locker.

its the most used area of the boat when anchored. I like the idea of a walk thru, but i like the full pad the way my 2019 is for comfort.

Does anyone have any pics of the 'rear sundeck filler cushion' option? We've got a '21 Mojo on order with that spec'd but I can't find any pics of what the cushion actually looks like installed.

The wide seat/step is a must for my family, as we spend a bunch of time chilling on the back of the boat. The walk through is ok, but they love the wide-step w/shallow walk-through design that some boats/brands offer. (It's a must-have design feature for my wife and kids.) They all weigh 120slbs or less, so the push, etc, is of less importance to them...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 2021 Mojo will have 3 removable cushions:
1) Back Sunpad Cushion
2) New Observers Seat Cushion (across from the driver)
3) Bow Middle Cushion

This is the one I’m looking for a picture of.
