View Full Version : How do Supra's have so much space?

How does like a Supra SA have all the ballast subfloor super deep and have a ton of storage, where most the other boats have to have ballast bags non subfloor? How does Supra achieve this?

Deep freeboard.
It's not just supra through Nautique has had subfloor since 2013 in the G's.
lots of new boats have subloor ballast.

bBtter design with less wasted underfloor space and a deep hull ultimately.

Freeboard is a big factor, but I wonder if the bags for subfloor are actually sitting lower in the boat when it’s built.

I have not seen a new one at the factory before all the rigging is installed.

That's what i mean by better design.
The bags are sitting on the hull with no false floor underneath so no wasted space.

The thing I am looking forward to most on the SA is all that storage under hinged seats.

I don’t like “things” scattered around the cabin.

A place to put anchor and rope.
No lead bags on the floor
Beach bags stored
More board storage post session
Place to put all those damn life jackets
And in floor cooler is glorious.

I can't believe your 18 still didn't have hinged seats that's insane to me!

18s had hinged seats, just not all of them. SR and SA have a couple less, SL and SE a couple more. The G's do have subfloor ballast, but pretty sure when you add the "Pro Ballast" option, you get bags on the top side just like Malibu and Axis.

Supra has done a great job with space optimization. Clearly the boats have more freeboard. That extra depth allows them to put the bags below the floor and still have enough depth. I suspect the floor may be slightly higher in relation to the bottom of the hull to make room. Additionally, they made the sun pad over the engine area shorter in length which opens up the cabin for seating. It seems they may have also pushed the window more forward which technically makes less bow space but the wide "pickle fork" bow has loads of space so this does not cause an issue. All of this makes the main seating area behind the window huge. The deep freeboard makes it even larger. The storage under the seats is a bit more shallow vs my old Supra but not by much. The rear lockers are still super deep. The storage space in my SE is endless. We usually had way more gear and general stuff in our boat this year (as compared to our old Supra) and yet it all fit in the storage compartments with loads more room to spare. Our old Supra had stuff all over the floor because the storage was full.

My 18SA had one hinged seat, the 21SA has 4.

Not counting the helm storage.

I am very jealous of the flip up observer seat for 21.
My 20 also has 4 otherwise.

Also both bow seat backs, the trash storage door and the flip up seat back. They did redesign the driver side seat on a hinge, it wasn't before because of the cooler. The SL doesn't have hinged front seats. Only seat I would like hinged is the trash can seat, but it doesn't bother me.
