View Full Version : Putting a transom remote on a 2020 SA. Whats the ballpark on cost?

So, I'm looking to purchase a used 2020 SA. It wasn't spec'd with a transom remote, but I may look to put one in at some time. What is the ballpark on cost? This would be a service center install because I don't want to violate the hull warranty. Anyone ever priced this out?

Search Fusion transom remote in the forum.
There is a thread about this and fusion make a bluetooth device that could be used to control audio anywhere you wanna stick it.
Some put over OB compartment, some transom and someone was willy enough to try it with a wriststrap surfing and it worked.

Transom remotes. Had one in the Mojo and maybe used it thrice in the 5 yrs I owned it, mainly to show people the feature on the new boat. Haven't used it yet on the Supra. I see more utility in the wrist remote, if your surfing you can change your tunes and adj volume. Not to say some may find it useful, don't mean to deter you, but I would suggest consider an Apple watch or android watch, depending on your phone and you can control stuff from your wrist while surfing. The bluetooth does reach, I know because that's what my in-law uses. You prolly stream your music from your phone anyways. Just a thought.

We use the transom remote every time we use boat at sandbar.
Drink beer, put back in cup holder, change song.....

have had it on every boat but our current one. like isaguel, doubt we ever used it on any of the 3 boats but maybe a dozen times total and those were all at the sandbar.
if you don't frequent a sandbar often, skip it.
we're not adding one in on our current boat and it's not going to make/break a resale deal down the road.
oh ya, ballpark cost... added 2 of them to my '12 and they were $175 each and install was free as I did it. my supra it was $150 and again, did it myself so no labor.
the first hole is a sweat dripping nervous thing to do. every hole you do after that it gets easier and easier :)

Thanks guys. If it becomes a necessity I'll get a Fusion. Where we boat, streaming music isn't possible most of the time. We had XM with a remote in our Sanger and never took it out of the glovebox once. We rarely connected our phones to play music. My wife won't let me wear my Apple watch when surfing. She thinks I'll lose it. If we add XM I think we'll be ok until we move to Texas. Then we may have to reevaluate.

I find it so interesting how different peoples views on options can be.
I would not own a boat without the transom remote and use it constantly.
Mostly when chilling behind the boat and need to skip songs or change volume, but also when I'm coaching surfers I can just lean down and turn the music down to talk to them or pause it etc.

I imagine you will have to use the factory transom remote.

That’s why I had to ask if anyone had added it post delivery. The boat I’m looking to buy doesn’t have it, but I don’t think I’d use it that much. We don’t sit around and float a lot, and if we are we keep our music fairly low as not to disturb the rest of the lake inhabitants.
When we move to Texas, that may be a different story though. Easier to sit in a lukewarm bathtub than in an ice bath.

I'm in Texas, enjoying a tie-up after a long morning of riding is a common occurrence.
I use my transom remote quite a bit. It's nice to change volume and tracks while your hanging out in the water.
I usually know my playlists pretty well so I also use it right before a pull if there is a particular track I want to ride to.

I have always had the transom remote on my boats and use them often, but I prefer my apple watch to control music and volume. The only reason I even have an apple watch is for controlling my stereo as I am not a fan of the apple watch...Garmin Fenix watches are far superior.

This!!!! Not sure aftermarket remotes are plug and play on the Supra vision system. They don’t run a fusion head unit like a moomba.

I don't own an electronic watch and don't plan to, but I can see the allure. Swipe up/down to control volume, swipe left/right to change tracks. But, I have enough consumer electronics surrounding my life to strap another one onto my wrist. I'm a mechanical watch guy. I have my wife and kids and good old "analog" verbal commands to adjust the stereo.

If you can Bluetooth your phone to the vision system, I would imagine a Bluetooth remote would work...worth a try maybe [emoji2375]

I'm sure it's quite different than the plebian Fusion HU I have.
With mine, I set my phone's media volume to max and then use the HU knob to actually control volume.

I found distortion on the Supra if you max out phone volume, I ran it about 70% with phone EQ set to flat or off

I think it depends on the phone but my SA doesn't respond to volume changes on my Google Pixel.

My original though was to have the stock transom remote controller placed, but after discussion with the COO, the likelihood of using is low, and cost vs resale value added doesn’t pan out. She won’t let me wear my Apple Watch in the water for fear of losing or damaging it (none of this mattered when I was remodeling our house and in the crawl spaces or having my hand in a wall when I was remodeling our house). She rarely leaves the drivers seat, and controls the sound She’s distant descendent of Bluetooth. Does that count?

I love my boat, but the stereo logic is one of my major beefs.
On the Vision system with my Samsung S8, the system completely controls volume on my phone. Changing volume on my phone does nothing, until it reaches zero, then it's muted.
The problem with that is that the minimum volume, both on the master volume and on each zone is 5%. With all zones at 5% and master at 5%, it's too loud to hold a normal conversation. The only way I can have music and have a normal conversation is to turn all zones but the bow to zero.
Additionally, the speed sensitive volume logic is asinine. There are several presets - surf, wake, cruise, etc. There is no way to set the max overall volume for each preset. So if I have the preset to cruise, as soon as I throttle up, it increases to 100%. If I try to decrease the volume, it keeps jumping back to 100%. After a few minutes, it will finally let me decrease the volume. Same for every other preset, depending on its factory set max volume.
It should accept user input as an override and stop trying to go to the max preset. We can change the max volume for each zone in the presets, but not max master volume. These 2 things are massive oversights to this system.

Something is weird with your volume though at 5% I can't even hear the music (we can easily hold a normal conversation at volume 30) . Is it the same with other phones? (maybe the s8 has a very high output level)(my google pixel also doesn't allow me to change volume but it's perfectly workable volume levels from silent to too loud)
As for the speed volume, turn the sensitivity down to 3. i've found the same as you at anything above 3 it won't let you take control. At 3 mine allows me t turn it down at any point.
I agree it's poorly programmed but I haven't had an issue with it since turning the sensitivity down. Still not my favorite setup but it works ok.

When my wife's iPhone is connected, it's far quieter. But the iPhone also has volume control through the phone.

Anything other than 5 is useless. It doesn't adjust as much. At sensitivity 5, it goes to min volume (5) at idle, and preset max at speed (between 70 and 100, depending on the preset).

Agreed it's not ideal but for me I'd rather have control over it than have it auto adjust to full and zero.
3 works just fine for me, but I do use the steering wheel controls or the touch screen fairly regularly to change volume manually which I'd prefer not to have to do.
I just can't stand it when it won't let me turn it down, I agree that's completely ridiculous. So I deal with making more adjustment manually in order to have the ability to turn it down if I need to.

Yeah auto volume is useless if you have to adjust it every time anyway.

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkSurfing isn't an issue really, it's always somewhere between 60-70, and works well. It's any other preset that always wants to go to 100.
