😊 thanks

They will release something on social media letting people know it will be coming that week. Like a count-down. Since they are showing up at the dealers and pics on social media, should be this soon. I will take a guess . . . next week.

Then the 2021 web configurator will come up after that.

With the other major brand already releasing their 21 line ups and SC already building 21’s it’s going to be soon.

SC is always last to release and the online configurator although the best of the majors, just takes forever for SC to release.

If you are serious about getting one you can goto your dealer and they have all the new information about the 21. My 2021 SE is being built now. Delivery the first week of August.

Cactus... that’s amazing you are already getting your 2021 in early August. How long ago did you order it?

I ordered it the last week of June I think. My dealer had a spot and I was lucky to get it. I only had a day to decide the colors of the tower, apparently it takes 3 weeks to do the tower.

Yes, saw that a few days ago. I didn’t want to post it here to draw attention lol.

New gatorstep 3 color floor is cool, capt seat is awesome, it’s too bad the dual stern thrusters are $8750 option, although slightly cheaper than what bu or Nautique charges.

General question regarding color selections. I started investigating getting into a new SA last year. I noticed fairly quickly that metal flake paint was present on most of the boats at dealerships that were listed online. Is there a lot of drive towards metal flake?

It seems that any boat that doesn't have it is schemed in the most boring colors, like one I saw on OnlyInboards, was light grey. Grey deck, grey accent, grey upholstery, grey seadek, etc. Very bland. Every other boat, metal fleck, which is unappealing to us. Is metal fleck the new "It" color scheme? Should I just come to the realization I'm going to have to spec out our leap to an SA or Makai when we're ready to pull trigger because all the inventory is going to be metal flake?

Flake has been very popular for years.

That said, you can build a boat anyway you want. Just order one how you like it.

I just think MF really really makes colors pop. Its a nice way to accent a boats color scheme. Most people like them. Its a 600$ upgrade but well worth it in my opinion.
You can spec your boat however you want, but, down the line, 5-10 yrs later, if you have 2 boats, same color scheme, condition, hours and spec's selling at the same time side x side, the one with MF is likely to draw more attention and interest and go first. Maybe even command a slightly higher price based on the higher demand alone.

Isn't metal flake less susceptible to oxidation as well?

I’m not sure about the 2021 colours but I wanted to let everyone know that the black metal flake paint for 2020 ( and maybe previous years too) doesn’t have much flake in it. My red MC has flake for days as does a nice green Craze on my lake. My new Mojo looks great but would really pop with more flake.

I have the black MF on my Supra. Pretty much same color scheme as my previous Mojo. I'm not sure if its that it does not have much flake but rather that the flake size is smaller. I have seen MF in bass boats and the flakes are huge in comparison. I actually like the BMF SC uses. It gives just the right amount of shine and light reflection without being too gaudy.

When I purchased my first new inboard it was in the showroom with a ton of flake and I questioned if it was too much. Fast forward a few years and I am so happy that I bought that boat. It still looks almost new after 12 years of ski school use and is jaw dropping when the sun picks up the flake. If you are a introvert and prefer to not attract attention to yourself steer clear of the flake. If you want a stunning boat that has everyone rubber-necking at your favourite lake, boat launch, and the highway go with flake, you won’t regret it.

we had a small repair done on our last boat that had black with a subtle metal flake. you could see it if you looked. mf is def harder to repair in gel but sure like anything the tech doing the work is the key to success.

Ive got a fever, and the only cure... is more MF

But srs i wish you could add it to more than the one panel on some of the boats

The kaiyen for instance, u can only put it in that top middle section.

Love it. I for one, really like your boat colors RC, they’re bold, as it should be on one of these boats. Subdued colors are for the meek. Too bad they don’t offer that yellow anymore. It would look good with black also, or green. Actually, it’s a very versatile accent color come to think about it.

Just a comment on metal flakes.

The black based flakes are much lower in flake density than the color based flakes.

If you over saturated a black base flake, it wouldn’t be black.

Ultra black is the mildest flake with mostly silver flake with a little copper and I can find some random blue and red flake if I search for it.

Midnight blue is a black base with medium flake with Brittany and ultra blue flake.

Black cherry is a black base with medium red flake.

The rest of the metal flakes are high and heavy density flakes.

Metal flake is not hard to repair. At least not any harder than a solid color repair. All they are doing is mixing up a clear gel coat and then they pour in the dry flake until there is enough in there to make it a solid color. The flakey, shinny, almost 3D appearance actually helps to hide imperfections, I think.
I had a repair done that went through solid black into my MF blue. The blue came out perfect, but I could tell the black area had a repair done to it.

I purchased my flake here:

https://tcpglobal.com/pages/custom-shop-flakes

It requires VERY little so the small bottle will cover a very large area. I wasn't sure on the flake size so i ordered the .004 and .008. I believe I used the .004 for a perfect match. I got the wrong blue the first time and TCP was very good to return it and get me the right stuff. Think I paid $16 for it and the dealer wanted WAY over $100 for it.

Totally agree with you on that. The Mojo, in my mind, is the closest to perfect boat. 23ft is the sweet spot for a boat, if you have the room to store it. The only 2 things that, in my humble opinion, would make it the undisputed best value for the money is subfloor ballast and a tower that folds to <8ft. I'll be honest, I really love our SL, but, had the Mojo had those 2 features in 2020, I would have a Mojo in my garage right now. While shopping for the SL, I looked at the Makai, but too big, would not fit.

I don't know about each model but as far as the Craz goes gator step flooring is now standard, fixed wakeboard racks are standard, the strainer and the 7 round trailer plug is standard, the windshield has a new design ( i don't think it is major but some kind of change), the surf flow 2 is standard. I'm guessing these are all standard across the board on all models but i know for sure on the Craz.

I've seen a few early released pics of the driver's seat on social media. Cannot tell that much by what Supra released so far. I'm sure more to come next week.

Heard the passenger seat is all 1-piece for getting to storage vs having a two piece seat.

Thrusters - always thought those were funny on wake boat. I guess if you own a SE and are in tight slip, it's a convenience/luxury on a high dollar boat.

I know the other boat makers have them as an option, so SC needs to be there too. And that 3rd party company trying (EX Drive) to sell them on social media, but to me it just drives the costs higher for $5-8K.

I thought Moomba was the economically friendly brand?

I don't know... I think they make perfect sense, especially when teaching new folks. These large side-walled bimini'd boats get pushed around by the wind and newbies being pulled tend to have much easier time getting up when lined up certain ways behind the boat. If you don't live in a windy place then not really necessary I suppose as I would be using it for that far more than when docking etc.

sandm
07-29-2020, 06:45 PM
nice to have but not a need to have in MOST cases.

that said launching and waiting in a 23ft boat in the narrow drop area of Callville Bay on Mead, there have been a few times I would have liked to have the ability to move around more than a wakeboat will. nosing up to the dock to pick my my girl after parking the truck is a $hitshow some days and having the extra turning ability would be nice. not for 8grand tho......

when we launched on the fox river and tons of wide open room I don't get thrusters at all....

Isaguel
07-29-2020, 06:59 PM
Depending on price, thrusters would be a great addition to a VD boat. I can see many uses beyond just docking. Familyman mentions picking up riders and getting new surfer up, that's just the beginning. Where I boat, there is a restaurant in a channel and everyone wants to get a spot at the dock, people just lounge around waiting, sometimes, when your spot comes up, you're maneuvering between boats, backing up and forward to get to where you're going, a thruster would come in handy in those tight situations. Also when your surfer falls, you can turn quickly and pick them up rather than wait for wave to pass, then make a wide turn. I would love to have thrusters, but again, everything is worth it at the right price. I would not pay $8500 for it.

larry_arizona
07-29-2020, 07:36 PM
I have got crossed up with a unexpected gust of wind or some wake from my fellow wakeboats out on the lake sending rollers into the launch.

Never hit anything just always ready with reverse and my first mate has a boat loop at the ready.

The dock hold feature sounds interesting.

But for $8750, it’s a hard pass. $3000, sure.

$9656 on a 20 year note at 3.99% is only $58/month. less than a dinner out for 4 if ya could eat out :)

and makes it easier to social distance from the sandbar neighbors if they close in on your space!!!!

Or putting that towards $58/month to an add'l bottle of bourbon for 20 years. I can't drink what I buy now.

Or.....
you can look at it this way. If you put 100$ down in long term growth stocks, contribute an extra 58$/month, if you average a conservative 4% return /yr, you will have 21,322.00$ after 20years.

I'm sure there are investments out there that will give a slightly higher yield and still be fairly safe, but, I'm not a financial planner, so, who knows.

Hmmm, when I turn 70, I can buy 2 thrusters!!

With the thrusters, you can simply back up to get your rider, that is, if you're paying attention enough to come off throttle as soon as they fall... and about investing, if anyone was genuinely looking at $58 dollars over 20 years, none of us would have these boats and be putting $600-1000 a month or more into the market.. but what fun is that.. lol

If it is true subfloor ballast, I believe they would have to split the boat at the rubrail and put it in under the top cap. Just a guess, I havent been to the factory to see how they make the boats.

On a side note, does Moomba have any boats with true subfloor ballast? The Max and Kaiyen that I walked through at the dealer I could lift seats or bins and see the ballast bags. I havent had the pleasure of seeing a Supra in person, but my understanding is they have true subfloor ballast. I have been on G and GS nautique and that is what I think of with subfloor ballast. When you open any compartments or seats the there is no visible ballast bags.

I think the Supra and moomba newer sub floor ballast are bags only.

Previous ballast was a combo of subfloor hard tanks and plug and play locker bags.

Are all Supra models true subfloor ballast? By true subfloor I mean you cannot see any abgs when you open the compartments or seats. Unfortunately, I have never been able to get in and crawl around one.

Both the Max and Kaiyen I was in I could see the bags when I opened the rear compartments. I dont understand how that is considered subfloor. Can anyone clarify this?

All Supra’s now other than SR.

The storage floors were raised and I believe there are only bags under the floor.

Unfortunately you have not accounted for inflation and the annual price jump of marine equipment and recreational vehicles. I would estimate that in
20 years, your $21,322.00 will net you a spare tire option on your 2041 Supra SA order.

So there is no hard floor over the rear bags? Do they just have those plastic trays over the bag?

Correct.. everyone says sub floor, it would be more proper to say concealed

That is what subfloor means in my mind. There is a dealer in Akron, Ohio near my in-laws, that carries Nautique and Moomba. When I look in the rear compartments of a G23 and a Max, the Max has deeper rear compartments (this is in the showroom). But, when you are out on the lake and fill the ballast the entire G23 rear compartment is still available with ballast full, whereas the Max compartment looses a lot of space as the bags fill with ballast.

Unfortunately, I have not seen a Supra at any of the boat shows and there are no dealers near me. It is my understanding from this thread that the Supra is like the G23 where the ballast is all subfloor not just hidden by trays. But, I look forward to the day I can crawl around the inside of one and check it out. They have great reviews so I am sure they are awesome vessels.

Did the main Moomba.com webpage get updated with some of the 2021 info in the last couple days? I'm seeing the 2021 Mondo/Kaiyen/Makai/Max/Craz. No Helix or Mojo offered this year?

We are looking at purchasing new and after reading through all 50 pages of the Autowake thread, I'm interested to hear whether the Flow 3.0 will be standard/option for the Makai and whether the surf tabs will be controlled by Autowake? (Will autowake automatically attempt to utilize surf tabs before trying to dump port/stbd ballast to achieve roll). Matt Brown and Wake9 had a video in 2018 where they commented on this as being future possibility. Part of a firmware update? Hopefully soon?

The page isn’t fully updated yet, 1 boat still to come for 2021.
