Well today was bittersweet. First I get to my dealer just to pick up the boat from winter shrink wrap storage but when I get there they tell me they had time to go ahead and summarize it instead of having to bring it back next weekend. Sweet! Load the boat on the truck and head to drop it off at my parents house. Get there to inspect my interior and replacement seat cushion only to remove the cover and see a nasty dent / groove in the engine hatch upholstery. Looks like it was from a strap or string used by the dealer to supposed the shrink wrapping. I would imagine this would normally get a piece of fabric or cardboard to protect the upholstery but there was none :(. I’m sure my dealer will take care of it and hoping they can just replace it with a 2020 engine hatch instead with the gatorstep pad on top.

Oh well tried to stay positive and race against the sunset to install my new Wakemakers kit because we are hitting the water first thing tomorrow and I wanted to test out the new wave. I start removing the rear bags and then open the Wakemakers boxes only to realize one of the bags is not for a Max :(. Damn but me right in the feels lol. I’ve already talked to WM and they apologized and feel bad. They are shipping me a bag on a Monday but I’d be lying if I wasn’t a bit bummed about the bag and then of course the ugly groove dent in my engine hatch.

28563

28564

Oh well it will all get taken care of. 2020 has been shitty so far so I’m just glad to be finally hitting the water and out of this damn house!

Bright side is I got my baby back and not feels great! I am glad I put damprid in all of my compartments and kept my cushions at home. I had water in several of the containers and made sure my boat was super dry and clean when I winterized it. That stuff always seem to suck moisture from seemingly dry areas and is an amazing product! No mold and boat smells as new as it did when I got her last year. Smells like Skiers Choice when you pull in the parking lot and have that hint of new fiberglass and vinyl lol.

Now I just need my storage building completed hopefully in the next week. Until then going to keep it stored outside at my parents house. I’ll be glad to not have to trailer but maybe 5 mins to the water once our unit is built!!

She needs a bath but I don’t even care. We are hitting water tomorrow and I’ll just wipe her down while relaxing under the sun.

Yea it sucks but what can ya do? I honestly should have just installed one side of the kit so at least I could get some list and bigger wave than stock on that side but oh well. We are packing up and about to hit the road to get on the lake!

We got out today and it was great. Lots of debris in the lake though and more people than I’ve ever seen so it was a washing machine for the majority of the lake. We did scope out some secluded coves off the main channel to mark for surf locations. On the way back something happened and we start to get vibration and a low bass kind of drone sound. When I pulled the boat out at the launch I was expecting to see a damaged prop but it looked fine to my naked eye. Going to inspect it further tomorrow and take it to a close by small lake to see if it vibrates again. Happens as I have it rpm past 10 mph and was really prevalent around 16 mph. Hoping it was just a twig or something wrapped on the prop and came off before we retrieved. Either way it was great to get out of the house for once and finally on the water!

Nice! I have had some weird cavitation vibes if the lake is really choppy. Although... we were out cruising a couple of nights ago (luckily in a no wake zone) and had a Very hard thud on the prop. Never had this happen before :)

Well that’s one to go fishing!!

Update on my boat: inspected the prop and shaft and noticed light scratches on the shaft and some scratches in the gelcoat above the shatter where it goes into the hull. Guessing something wrapped around it and looks like metal maybe so my guess is ani ran over someone’s stupid trot line and it wrapped around my shaft. I inspected the prop really good and no nicks or dings. Took it to the nearest lake for a test run and the boat ran great and no vibration. I’m guessing whatever was wrapped around my shaft fell off when we docked or when I pulled the boat out of the water. Glad it doesn’t seem to be shaft out of alignment! Looks like I dodged a bullet.

I had something similar happen to me last year. I was pulling a skier and all of a sudden the boat started vibrating like crazy, but there was never the thud of hitting something. I shut it down immediately. Grabbed the snorkel gear to see if something wrapped around the prop, but it was clean. No vibration after we took off again. Pulled it out of the water and no dings on the prop. Must have just been a twig or something. Hopefully that is all it was for you also.

That fish is crazy! [emoji23]. Never seen that either.

It was 72 degrees for us. I tried to use my GoPro to look under the boat at the prop but water clarity wasn’t the best due to recent storms and high waters.

For the fish I remember a post on a jetboating forum where someone who wet slips cranked their boat and noticed it sounded strange. A massive catfish or maybe carp I can’t remember was sucked up in the jet intake tunnel and it was gross lol.

Went to the river today. 75' and it was awesome. We wakeboarded at the end. So much smoother than the lake.

haknslash
05-03-2020, 09:59 PM
I would have stayed on the river today too when I was testing for the boat vibration issue but had steady cross winds in the cove so I knew it would be white capping in the channel .I will say it was FAR less crowded on the river so we may just go there for a while until the big groups of people slow down on the big lakes. It's just nuts and I'm usually fine with some ramp comedy hour but it's not fun sitting in line for 10+ minutes while people struggle to get their big ass pontoons loaded. Why does nobody install guide poles on pontoon trailers?

The Marina/Boat Ramps at our lake have been full by noon the past 2 weekends. I have valet storage on the lake, and Im not even using it lol. I have my boat in the driveway, and am going to the river, because its so nuts at the lake. Its crazy right now. Its the only thing to do, since everything else has been closed.

Dang you’re in another zip code back there lol. What’s you’re setup?I still think I have a lot of tweaking to do. I am going to order the wakemakers moomba max bow bag but have the legs shortened on it so I can retain some storage (will be about 500lbs vs 860lbs) and move some of the lead under the rear sacs.

But in the picture it was...

Stock ballast (3,000 lbs)
720's midship.
250 lbs lead in front.
100 lbs (gym weight plates) under midship bag.
Another 100lbs of lead bags on top of each of the 3 shelfs midship.
Only the driver in the boat.

Speed 11mph
Surf plate 80
Center tab 0

That is the same here in Ohio. It is freaking crazy on the lakes. I hit the water earlier this year than ever before. Now, granted I am 1 of like 4 people who actually get in at 57 degree water temps on our lake. [emoji23]However, everyone is out cruising around. Took me an hour to get the boat out of the water last weekend. Kind of sucks honestly.

It is busier than normal at my small local lake too. I can't blame them or be mad because I am out there too, but we have to get off the water around noon on the weekends because it gets so busy. When we were leaving there was a line of boats waiting to get in.

Heck yea that's awesome and happy for y'all! Yea these Velcro straps suck when trying to deploy Bimini out on the water when it's rough. Next time we will just deploy it before launching lol. My Yamaha bimini took no time to put up. Quality wasn't anywhere near as nice as the Roswell but it sure was a lot faster to put up. Looks like y'all got a nice new home for the Murder Max!

Probably one of the best purchases I have made for the boat. I’m 6’4” and I put in a tall pedestal to raise the seat so I can look over the windshield without sitting on the bolster, which put the mirror directly in my line of sight. These 2 items raised it up the perfect amount.

Last I heard, our state parks, and public ramps are closed. Any place that requires a state employee. Fortunately for us, most of our ramps/marinas are private. Also, most of our lakes, and rivers are in counties that havent been effected much by the virus. Texas has a lot of rural areas. Any place in Harris county/Houston city limits probably has stricter rules. I dont go to Lake Houston, but I think they're very limited on ramps right now.

Yeah the guy doing 360s is Taylor Black, and it's behind his Supra. I think he went 1/2. I believe he stuck one at the begining solo. The video was longer, but unfortunately, I had to cut for IG (1min max). Its really not my best vid, but I was tired last night.

As far as the bowl, it was unplanned, and we werent prepared at all. My son was driving, since I was playing with the drone. Wil (rinkers) and Taylor noticed I was filming them, so they pulled up on us, and said let's roll together. So we went. I had no idea what the goal was lol. I didnt know what a surf bowl was till someone commented on the pic on FB lol. Well do better next time. We were never uncomfortable tho.

Yea I'd have to move if we had snow. On the rare event we do get snow or ice it is like total Armageddon in the south! I hate being cold and no way I could enjoy snow boarding or skiing, as much fun as it looks! Hopefully summer comes your way soon so you can enjoy the water!

Oh Sir Hacknslash, snowsports are far more fun than water sports! For one you have total freedom! No being tethered to a boat or anything limiting your movement. Dress properly and you don't feel the cold!

Sucks when that travel-work-thing is getting in the way of summer fun, but it pays the bills.
I did the weekly trips on planes (M-Th or M-F) for many years, but home on weekends.

Yeah it especially shitty right now due to covid-19. I normally do a 4 week rotation, 4 on and 4 off but since there is not commercial air travel to Guyana at the moment we are having to fly charters which apparently gets expensive. Combine that with what we have to do to get around the Guyanese government travel ban and we are doing 2 weeks of quarantine at a hotel in Houston, 6 weeks on the rig working, and 4 weeks off. Hopefully after one 12 week cycle we can get back to normal.

First....Hell NO LOL Low water drone shots are for the Pros, and the Rich. Its one of the scariest things to do (for me anyway). Even at 50 feet, you still have to turn the bottom sensors off, because theyll pick up reflections off the water. Then you add wind in the mix, ect ect. The closer you get, the less room for error. NOPE...not this guy LOL I do plan on using a selfie stick with the gopro soon, but I need to get some floats for it first.

Honestly, the best tell of an incredible wave, is a video of a min 170lb rider getting way back on the wave, and surfing back to the sweet spot. If there on a skim board, its even better. Anyone can get a great Pic with the right angle, videos with no surfer, or a kid surfing. My 10yr old can surf 30 feet back on stock ballast, and Ill get that perfect angle of him doing it ;)

That being said, I really dont know. Id just be guessing. I run slower on Conroe, because the water is not as smooth, or consistent there, so I go for a taller wave with more push, to help with the bumps/bouncing. I feel like I have a nice 15-20' surfable pocket. Theres plenty of room. On the River, prob 25-50% more, because its so much smoother. but Ive recently started running slower all around. You realize nobody is utilizing the wave 30' back. except to occasionally recover. Everyone wants to be in the sweet spot, with the most push. You just need a big enough pocket to pump, and gain some speed for a trick. Or in our case....Attempt a trick LOL.

When you were running 10mph, did you actually surf the wave, or did you only look at it from the back of the boat? Back of the boat shots can be deceiving too. It can look like a really short wave, but when you surf it, its actually a surfable wave. A nice 10' wave is better than a 15' no push wave lol. I always start my session in the flats, with the rope, and just look at the wave. You can usually tell if it has a lot of power. If it looks weak to me, I always tell the driver to slow down. 99% of the time when I make changes, its slowing my speed. I shoot for Push first, then Length. Length is pointless if its not surfable. Sometimes you just have to take what the day offers you. I dont let it frustrate me anymore. Consistency is really tough.

So, you have >6000 lbs ballast. Did you opt for the 440 engine? If not, do you feel the 400 handles this weight fine? Guess you use a 14-15 pitch prop for added torque. How did you fit 1000 lbs under the cabin seats? how about the iBS. I have the IBS and it is 500lbs and fills the whole space, in fact, pops out the cupholders.
I know, lots of questions. Just curious, I think that's the most ballast I've seen in a 22-23 ft boat.

Thanks man. Zandar started when he was 5 on a kneeboard. The rule was he had to try to get up on a wakeboard 3 times before he could ride the kneeboard. By the end of the summer he forgot about the kneeboard. He first got up on a wake surf board by himself the following year at 6. Wakeboarding is his 2nd favorite, behind snowboarding.

Today I got to finally sign the lease and pick up my lock for our new storage unit which should be ready to move in on next Friday. Our unit already has the walls and door installed but we have to wait until the rest of the units have their electricity in. Having 40’ of storage is going to be nice and I went and I’ll have 3 different launch ramps within 5 mins from the storage facility! It’s going to be nice to not have to tow hours and save the wear and tear from my truck and trailer.

I always wonder where the people come from on holiday weekends, but very happy most of them only come out a few weekends out of the year. Not sure why we even bother going on holiday weekends any more. The main reason we went this weekend was weather related, only half decent day in a while.

So I’m not 100% ocd but I do like a clean boat. Set up one more item in the shop to help with that and makes it easier, plus I already had the blower so why not use it. Drys out the bilge nice and fast now.

That last 180 is from switch, he is a natural goofy rider. Threw in a few clips of his training partner and a little surprise from last year at the end!

Is he training with Brandon Judd by chance?

No, just some local guy here that needs a pull so we tow him in exchange for his coaching ability.

I finally went ropeless today!!! First time ever getting slack in the rope and holding it too. Wakemaker kit is a legit must have on the Max, especially if you're a bigger dude.

Yea man it felt awesome to finally feel was surfing or having push is supposed to feel like! It has been over 2 years worth of riding behind my buddies boat or my previous boat trying to have a decent enough wave and then last year with stock ballast it was getting a little discouraging. I had plenty of great folks offer critiques of my stance on the Facebook group so added that with the WM kit and it all kind of cliques yesterday. Felt amazing! I can’t wait to see how the wave looks once I have more than my skinny wife and our little 55 lb daughter on the boat :D

Nice header.

Good you had a surf rope. That is example of why people should not use wakeboard or waters ski ropes when surfing. Things happen fast. I would have been worried about an arm.

Very nice, looks OEM. I would add a small modification, how can the handle part be shaped into beer can holders, you know, priorities:)

Are these to help old people get in the boat?

Oh we still have our beer holders in the rear, made sure of that!

Old or shorter people. A Makai has a large step up from the trailer to the swim platform with no outer cup holder or anything to hang onto.

Yep laser cut, polished, and powder coated. The nice thing is there were no modifications to the boat as it had these originally there, just can’t match the original dimple work

I'd probably make them if anyone wanted them. PM for details if anyone's interested in doing that. I also have a first gen Id let go of cheap, that the only difference was the position of the handle. Wife talked me into a second generation, as pictured.

Since the Makai has a walk-thru and they are far enough to each side (platform cutting in), you'd have to really try hard to hit your shin on them.

@haknslash I traded a Yammy AR192 for a Moomba as well thought that was interesting. 70% of our outings is just my 105lb wife and my 60 pound son. To make up for this we have 500lbs of lead we move around to maintain pitch and roll. Also but a 350 bag we put on the surf side. Wake surfing is more challenging for bigger people. I am 5'10 205lb guy and my wave has plenty of push that way

Y’all are preaching to the choir! 6’4” and 220 errrr 245 here lol

The right board makes all the difference as well, but no replacement for displacement.

Congrats haknslash!
