I currently tow with a nissan titan. We are looking to upgrade a little. I'm looking at the F250'S with the 6.2. Most have the 3.73 rear ends unless you order one custom with the 4.30 (which I'd prefer)

anyone towing with said set up? Which gears? Thoughts?

Personally I would think the 373,s would be fine. With the 10 speed trans and the 6.2 you should have plenty of power. When you are not towing you would probally get a little better mpg with the 373,s.

Unless i am towing a big load for more than 40% of the time, i would be fine with 373.

With the 6.2, I don’t think you can get the 10 speed. You need the 7.3 or diesel to get the 10 speed option.

For $2000, I would get the 7.3 gas.

4.30 gear would get old when not towing.

6.2l with 6 speed trans, 3.73 gear will tow 12500#
4.30 gear gets you to 15000#

I towed my Craz with a 6.2 3.73 last season. You’d never know that boat was back there. I have a 22x7.5 enclosed snowmobile trailer that would drift around a little bit but only because of the extra surface area. The boat towed excellent. In fact, my girlfriend would actually offer to drive, that’s how well it handled.

That says something right there.

I looked at the 7.3 gas and it looks great. I hope it's as great as the 6.2 has been for them. I'm a little nervous about buying a first year production tho. It comes with the 10 speed transmission. This likely won't be our daily driver so not too worried about mpg with the lower gear just like the idea of a little more towing capacity for any future toys. Glad to hear that the 3:73 pulled the Craz great!

I stopped worrying about mpg when I picked the two most expensive hobbies on the planet. Boating and snowmobiling!

3.73s will be fine on stock rubber, 35s will be ok but anything over 35s and you will want the 4.30 gears if you will be towing regularly.

Look at the big picture and how you intend to use your truck. Ordering with the right gears is WAY cheaper than doing a gear swap down the road.

My 2000 F-250 had 3.73s with the 5.4 and was a slug but fairly bulletproof and I ran it until my following truck, a 2013 F-250 w/3.73s and the 6.2....big improvement over the 5.4 with low end torque.

My current ride is a 2017 F-250 with 3.55s and the 6.7 PSD....it's a beast and is pretty overkill for most situations....but I effin love it.

You definitely wouldn't regret the very small upcharge from the 6.2 to the 7.3 Godzilla.

I will tell you one thing from personal experience, when it's time to trade in a gasser SuperDuty, you're gonna get hosed. The market for these is very small (especially for the base engine).

The gassers don't hold a flame to the diesels when it comes to resale...just food for thought.

Great point on bigger tires, bigger than stock diameter tires will kill gear ratio in a hurry.

I didn't think about tires either. I had 35" Nitto's on mine.

The resale is also better on a diesel but, identical trucks with Powerstroke vs. 6.2 is roughly $10k price difference. So it is somewhat relative.

I've been considering the jump to a 250 as well. my '14 F150 5.0 with 3.55s is getting long in the tooth. The Craz has been pretty hard on it. Power wise, it's fine (I love the 5.0 Coyote), but the rest of the truck is showing age beyond it's miles at 100k.

I've been waffling between another loaded up F150 5.0 with 3.73s (10 speed and 3.73s + new generation would be an upgrade from my '14) or a less loaded 250 with a 6.2 and 3.73s It's also my DD and i really don't want to DD a 160" wb school bus, but if that's the best option, it is what it is.

Like someone said above, you can buy A LOT of truck on the gasser 3/4 ton used market. A lightly used 3/4 ton + a more reasonable DD might be the answer, but then I'm dealing with 2 used cars...

I second that. A few years back but I had a hell of a time finding a used, loaded Super Duty with a v10 and low miles (2005) and finally picked up a holy grail Lariat Crew, small lift with 35's with only 49k on the clock after a lengthy, exhaustive search. After it was totaled I couldn't find another gasser with the same trim and reasonable mileage on the face of the planet. The newer 6.2's and 7.3's probably are the same small market so don't trade - sell direct to the guy who is painstakingly searching for one.
