Wondering if any of you have large dogs that boat with you and how the interior holds up? I have a Moomba Max and 100lb German Shepherd. It would be nice to enjoy time with both of them simultaneously, but I am worried the dog may destroy the seats with a quick manouver...any tips, apart from having a better trained dog?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200112/e45b89c07c43a23649858db0eb215313.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200112/fc7afe3a3d849bc0802561186b8ad920.jpg

Sweet dog!

We have only taken ours out in the boat once since he is a pup and he did ok. I was a nervous wreck for my interior lol. Next time I'm just going to tuck thick towels over all of the seat cushions to put my mind at ease a little more. They sell those rubber nail covers for dogs and also sell booties. We bought the booties but never used them as I was worried it might inhibit his swimming ability since he has webbed paws. Maybe try those rubber nail caps and they also have some you can brush on like an epoxy coat but wife said absolutely no to that lol.

Also forgot to mention that clipping and filing the nails before the boat trip helped cut out some of the fears. I rounded off any sharp corners of his nails and had no issues. I was more worried with the Seadek getting little dents but no issue.

I had a good friend that we rode with that took dogs in their sanger when it was just the 2 of them. I was always careful what I took and wore as whatever I wore always had dog hair on it. nothing like getting home and the hoodie is covered in hair.

as they say tho. their boat their rules :)

that said keep the nails clipped and towels around and your interior should hold up as well as anyone. that sanger interior wear was no better or worse with their dogs in it and they were 2 pretty large dogs.

Good stuff! Towels tucked in...simple but likely would help a lot. Considering booties as well-same concern with swimming. Will have to test that out. I have never heard of rubber nail covers or epoxy. Can't imagine the dog letting me apply it to his nails without a fight. That could be worth filming.

Glad to hear the seadek holds up good as well. I hadn't considered it would be an issue, but I guess it is pretty soft to touch too.

Thanks for the help!

We used to have 2 larger dogs we would take out routinely. I was very concerned about the upholstery and started off with the rubber nails, but they both chewed them off within an hour. It ended up being fine without them. I did not have any tears or punctures over the next 5-6 years taking them out with us.

I gave up on the towels and keep the nails trimmed.

My brother's dog loves to ride up in the bow like Leo in Titanic. He is small enough his nails wouldn't rip anything but I have worried about dumping him in the drink a few times, but he holds on somehow.
Our dog isn't really a fan. He just lays down on the floor next to me looking at me like, "Get me the hell of this deathtrap".

J/k, but our two (now 3) ausholes love boating. Cleaning up hair sucks. Thick towels are a must. Have a plan for loading them so they don’t scratch the gel or launch out regrettably.

Our boy jumped out to rescue me his first trip in the boat. He swam to me but freaked when wifey circled around to pick us up and scratched the gel on the rear corner trying to get back on the boat in a panic.

When boarding from the beach, I carry them out and wash paws before they track mud all over.

I haven’t decided if I’ll allow them on the new boat yet. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20210313/84c10b67a916eb7f3295ab14d90f0043.jpg

Dogs sweat through their pads, so when you cover them up you remove a cooling mechanism for them.

Our dogs go swimming in the cool water, so if you live in a hot and humid climate with warm water >70f, then dogs struggle to cool unless there is a constant breeze for evaporative cooling.

haha. theirs was an 05 v210. it tossed a decent surf wave for a 20ft'er but the interior was TRASHED and the mercruiser in it had issues from day one.
I'd be surprised if it was still running and being used.

I want to try to get my GSD (German Shepherd Dog) on the Mojo. We bought it used, but wife is saying NO EFFING WAY, he will damage the vinyl and the swim platform. I figured lots of towels and short cut nails to help with vinyl, but how do I get him in the boat after swimming? 100lbs of wet dog is hard to pickup if he cannot climb back in on his own. I can sink the rear while we swim, just curious how others do it with large breeds.

Kids and people do more damage to my vinyl than our dog...lol I fill the rear bags and sink the platform and she can swim right on. Also get a good dog life vest with a handle, mine loves to just float around and I use the handle often.

Good to know.
He is only 3 so he should be able to get himself out. I was thinking just fill everything (or leave filled) and cruise to swim area.

See what happens I guess.
Thanks

We took our pup out for the first time back in Jan. We went for a low key cruise out to the cove for lunch and to relax. It was a random 90deg day in Jan we had to take the boat out. Right? It would have been boat abuse otherwise. I was a total basket case going into it. Trimmed and filed nails night before, lots of extra towels, visions of shredded seats. It turned out just fine and we actually ended up enjoying having him out there with us.

Don't forget to get him on the shore to do business. Don't aske me how I know.....

My boy in his first ride in the 1yr old boat jumped in after me when I fell surfing. Scratched the gel on the lift off, and he freaked when wifey turned the boat around to get us. Two more scratches on the side gel trying to scramble in before I got him to the swim deck. Now he won’t get in the water.

Unfortunate incident, and I don’t blame him, and it felt wonderful that he would jump in to save me.

Having him wear it around the house so he can get a little used to it being around him.
Hoping the handle last while dragging him up the platform.

I also have two purebred dogs; one is a Bernese Mountain and the other a miniature beagle. They are very different, but both are equally affectionate and good-natured. The first boat trips were more stressful for them, in fact, just like their first car trip. I needed some training to get them used to these outings. It was easier for me with Spike. I don’t know, maybe it’s got something to do with the beagle dog breed profile (https://cleverpuppies.com/). Are they more aquatic-oriented? Jonesey took some effort, though. He gets stressed by the sound of the engine.

I realize this is a completely valid question, but I find it interesting as it looks like you have no problem with fishing on your boat...between the hooks, dorsal fins, & the slime...that's one thing I won't be doing on my boat even though I enjoy fishing. Seems like the hooks alone would garner more of a risk to your boat than your dogs nails...on the flip side, we have a mini aussy & we just leave her home. She does fine in the boat, but it's too big of a pain to get the fur out of the carpet for us.

My youngest son fishes off our boat, I dont have a problem with hooks and slime. I just un hook em over the side so they dont fall in theboat. The worst for me was when we took my dog he peed in the boat. He had never been in a boat before and just didnt know what to do. Gave me a good excuse to pull the carpets and give them a scrub.

Having said that, we have had our Jack Russell in the boat, but not normally. What my above was referring too, that didn't post for some reason, is we do not fish from my wakesurfing boat. Interior is not designed for it. Fishing boats, even the 6 plus figure ones, are designed to handle stray hooks, bait, flopping fish, and whatever "slime " that is mentioned without harming them. And be easily cleaned of the aforementioned without too much difficulty. Each boat for its purpose!

I practically raised our 90lb Black Lab on the boat, I keep towels on the back seat, seat behind the driver and observer. He mostly uses the back seat, we also have always kept a custom made towel on the swim deck, partly for the dog and partly for people because this area is very slippery when wet.

13 Mojo and 9 summers no tears from the Lab. I do have to clean the bilge pump ever few months from shedding LOL. I normally just wash the floor down then clean the bilge.

Unfortunately our boy is 12 and really slowing down, I hope he gets to enjoy the boat another summer.

But after 6 years, I got everything paid for except the house, my sugar momma ( reason we moved to GA ) says time to come home full time IDC how much you make. So I am moving in that direction.

I am just glad I still have my Moomba brothers and sisters here.

If your dog is trained, he will behave calmly in the boat. German Shepherds are great to train, so I think you won't have a problem. This breed of dog is very popular because they can do different tasks. I also have a German Shepherd and had Service Dog Registration (https://www.servicedogregistration.org) to officially register it as a service dog. It is very convenient because the dog accompanies me everywhere and helps me to navigate in space. I have vision problems, so it's hard for me to get around without help.

Our two huskies love it. For the most part, they are well behaved. Other days, a handful.
Usually days it’s just Summer and I they come. If we have a few friends, sometimes they stay at home.
They get the boat hairy, I do a lot of vacuuming. But, I lose the no dogs on the boat vote every time. I don’t put up a fight anymore. However on the next boat, the discussion has already been had. Lol

My brother in law has a neurotic little dog. He needs doggie anti-anxiety medication. They took their dog on the boat one time and he freaked out and managed to hide himself in one of the panels under the dash and disappeared into the hull. It took them hours to get him out! I guess it all depends on temperament, but watch out for little dogs.

My wife brought our littlest dog, who at the time was about 3lbs. She had gotten him this bejeweled collar with his name on it that was half his weight. He followed her everywhere.

She went out on the swim deck to take a leak and he followed jumping into the lake. Lucky she had good reaction time otherwise he’d of went straight to the briny depths.

She performed this lifesaving measure with her shorts around her knees holding on to the grab bar, barely breaking stream. It was early season, so the water was really cold. She had a lot of incentive not to let go of that grab bar.

"Accustom your pet to the water gradually, without rushing. Start by simply walking him in shallow water and letting him get used to the water.
During the second stage, interest the dog in a toy you throw into the water - at first near the shore, then gradually increasing the distance. I used the Duck Plush Stuffed Squeaky Rope Toy (https://www.doggietoys.deals/product/duck-plush-stuffed-squeaky-rope-toy/). My dog always liked toys like that. That's how I got him into the water the first time.
If the animal is nervous, you can take the pet in your arms and get as close to the water as possible. The presence of an owner nearby will calm the dog."
