View Full Version : It’s going to be a long winter... but first decisions, decisions...

Well I pulled the trigger on Kaiyen last week...

Now I have to make my final decisions on the colour selections this week.

I am caught between choosing a ‘sporty’ or a ‘classy’ look.

I really like and prefer the brown interior and flooring over the gray interior and flooring, but I am having a little hesitation with the brown because I’m worried that it might be a ‘fad’ for a period of time and I don’t want the boat to have a dated look in a few years.

In your opinion... do you think the brown will be a short term trend or will it be around for a longer period of time?

I know the brown interior is a polarizing topic, but that looks so much better than the grey.

Either brown interior looks better than the grey in my opinion.

Peanut butter interiors are only growing in popularity, been out several years and moomba finally added them this year.

First choice for the exterior...

Hard to choose...both look good. I’m leaning towards the grey though. I like the peanut butter color, but the brown just makes it too dark.

The tan is just a fad. and a bad one at that IMO. Please never put brown and orange together.

It's not orange, it's red (website colours), but the first pic of the interior with the red accent in the seats was posted by accident, I would choose black as the accent colour if I move forward with the brown.

Its definitely love it or hate it.

But it richens up the look. I personally have never been a fan of the high contrast bright colors in the interior.

Greys and blacks can look great when done right, but hot as hades unless cool tech.

But OP, that kayien looks stellar

Very similar to the colors on my SL.

I am a big fan if the peanut butter interior with some black and red thrown into the mix.

The red accent with the brown was my first choice, but you are correct it was too much and took away from the richness of the brown.

Agreed... everyone that I have shown both interiors to either choose the brown or the gray, not both.

Much appreciated.

Prospersigman & larry_arizona I definitely like the monochrome tan in both of your Supra’s.

The monochrome honey diam / honey mar combination (tan/tan) is offered in the Kaiyen, but I think the honey colour by itself would blend in with the Gator Step too much without the espresso diam as a secondary colour to separate the seats from the floor.

Been through too many brown and tan fads on boats, cars and motor homes. My Moomba I had was the best combination with a metalflake full and white vinyl. A neutral interior will weather time better IMO.

Funny, I'm making the same decision right now. I like the brown much better than the "sporty gray". Ultimately, I'm 99.9% sure I'm going with the brown. I've had many gray and white boat interiors and I'm sick of them. The brown has a much richer look and feel (I don't mean rich in the economic sense). I don't think brown is going to be here today and gone 5 years from now. I think it is going to stick (at least that is what I'm telling myself).

I'm not a big fan of the brown in boats these days, I love the classic grey look and think that brown is a "fad". That being said go for whatever you guys like.

I'd be intrigued with the brown had we stayed in wisconsin where the sun is not as baking hot. here in vegas no way in hell i'd ever spec a boat with a top coat other than white or a primarily white interior. I know that others say the cool touch is a blessing but I see new 'bu's with cool touch and towels all over the interior. even our white is toasty in the summer.

keeping the boat 2 or 3 years brown will still be in but I'm with zabooda in that back 30 years ago brown was in style then disappeared. it's in style again now but I bet a nice steak in 10 years it'll be off the color charts for new boat purchases. not saying it won't resale but it'll advertise the decade it was built in.....

end of the day buy whatever you and the family like not what a bunch of keyboard ninjas tell you to do..... none of us have to stare at it day in and day out...

I like how you think.

And yes... the 'rich' look is what I was hoping for. Surf & wakeboard ready, yet classy for a slow cruise around our lake.

Take the new G23 Paragon, never in a million years would I think dark metallic green, Gold and white interior and exterior would be in style.

I still don’t think it is......but at least one 300k boat owner thinks it is.

Point is, get what you want and WGAF what someone else thinks, you are buying it for you, not them.

White in my opinion is boring! It also shows every bit of dirt. Every finger print, foot print, spill, dust from trailering with the cover off, sand, etc. Is it cooler than tan, yes, does it show every thing, yes. OP is based in Ontario...I feel like he could use the additional heat from the brown interior. Think of it as heated seats for free

The interior can get hot AF! I'm glad I put white where I did on my interior (where we sit) since I don't have chill tech or whatever vinyl like the Supra's. The light gray on mine can get scorching hot here in the south. Maybe not an issue where you live but here I'm glad I didn't go with the darker color I originally spec'd my boat to. Ultimately get what you like just know these interiors get hot on the Moombas, even the lightest color they offer. Congrats on the new Keiyan!!

I added Teak gatorstep to our Grey interior 16 mojo and it really pops, I've gotten a lot of compliments on it. Might be a way to get the best of both worlds. Also I demoed a boat with tan interior and I was surprised at how hot it was, I don't even want to know how hot that dark brown gets. Gatorstep stays nice and cool.

I like the brown! I am replacing the flooring in my 2016 Craz with Gator Step and went with grey as it matched the interior. If I order a new boat I would go with the brown interior. Every boat has grey and brown stands out!

To sum up this thread so far: Everyone has their own opinions and we all have unique taste. If this were not true, we'd all be driving the same boat with the same color interior and exterior. Buy what you like and don't worry about anyone else.

Appreciate all the different color combos people pick. My son saw a lime green Supra SA the other day and loved it. While I would never pick that color for my boat, I thought it looked awesome.

Prospersigman

I personally loved the lime green on my 2017 SA and received a ton of compliments on it every where we went. I sold it to a buddy who traded it in on a 2019 SL and it is still for sale almost a year later. I think that says colors like lime green, purple, orange, yellow can look really cool and be great because they are different and you most likely won’t see another one like it on your local lakes, but resale can be difficult.

Prospersigman

I can tell you it was been very well taken care of! I sold it to a great friend of mine and they did a pass through at the local dealer. It had less than 150 hours on it when I sold it, so I would bet it has less than 200 hours on it now. I was the original owner, sold it to him, he had it 5-6 months then his wife fell in love with a 2019 at DFW boat show and they bought it and traded this in on the spot.

We’re going green! Our old boat was green as well (little darker). For our lake we were always 1 of 2 green boats on the entire lake, and I know the owner of the 2nd boat.

prosper is spot on. our first supra was orange and white. was on consignment for 3 months before we finally just traded it in at a different dealer. both dealers told me the color was a tough sell and trading dealer had it for another 2 or 3 months before wholesaling it out and took a loss on what they gave me for trade. shopping last year offshore marine here in vegas lost the tige dealership a year prior. they had a '17 leftover that was 2 years old never been wet. it was purple and white. we liked it but dealer did say color was a turnoff for most. we passed for the resale reason and took another 7k in price reduction off a 59k boat(74k msrp) and 3 more months to sell. they got a great deal but have to look at barney every day :)

our current boat has a mix of green/blue/white and we know it'll be a tougher sell than the traditional colors but we like it.... I'd be all over prosper's boat above if it wasn't for what appears to be black top deck and rugers looks great...
