View Full Version : Swim Platform modification or replacement for better surfing on Moomba Mobius LSV?

Are there any parts available to replace the swim platform for better surfing on the Moomba Mobius LSV?
I have the standard rounded fiberglass swim platform on my 2003 model, but it is 3-4 inches underwater when resting & drags in the water while surfing.

I could either lift the current platform several inches (making it hard to get in/out and swim without weighting) or replace it with something with less drag.

Has anyone pursued this, or do you know of an available part that I can purchase & screw the brackets on to fit this style boat?

Thank you.

iirc back in the day some were 'glassing the bottom of it, some tried to cut it up and some raised the platform.
we stumbled across some different brackets thru a warranty issue on the supra and it made a night/day difference:

sorry no pics as photobucket was the hosting and they are 10 years old but good luck in your search.

Thank you! I'll check my local dealer to see if they have it. I can't confirm that P/N online.

Do you know if it's possible to purchase newer surf-style Supra / Moomba platforms and how much they might run?
I saw where someone crafted his own.

I would bet it would be cheaper to 'glas the bottom of yours smooth to eliminate the lip than shelling out cash for a new platform. used platforms show up rarely and there just isn't a good dead boatyard to find parts/pieces off these.
you could build a teak deck as well. might be in it 3-500 but that would give you a smooth bottom.

I have a whole thread on it.

it seems like a few people have said that a new surf platform was somewhere around $600 or so. Then you would have to take the brackets off the old platform and put them on the new one. There are several threads about it as well as making a "surf platform".

The dealer I bought my used Moomba Mobius LS 2004 from a couple weeks ago raised my platform.
I mentionned to them I wanted it about 30mm (1 3/16") higher, so they put blocks of that size between the platform and the brackets.
So no need to move the brackets themselves. The boat is in the water, so it's a bit hard to make a picture for you.

Additional benefit, I keep dry feet as well on the platform when putting to cover on.

Sits higher in the water. Blue boat is mine. Red one is a 2006 24' with the standard platform.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190910/33bb28a2e8cc80e5272cc5c7135f1432.jpg

If you can get this shape, buying one OR making a DIY one, it will greatly help your surf wave.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190910/69b98870e2381b92fa372ddaa487cf19.jpg

This video has some footage of my custom platform. Look at about 58 seconds into the video. You can see how the water is flowing around the platform.

I had to strip of the real music I was listening to and added some of the "royalty free" you tube music.

Yeah, they're pretty nasty about music. even if it's background music playin on the boat stereo. They're all about the 'copyright claims'. :-/

I've had strikes on videos that I made the music in ios Garage Band!

Just finally gave up on any ad revenue. What a racket.

reviving an older thread since i still have the itch to change out my oem "rounded" platform to a surf style. I got a hold of Atlanta Marine and Cindy said that the cost for the new style is $700 and another $300 for the pad. FYI, the part # for the surf deck is #813701 and the pad is #113022. Don't think i am going to spend $1K so i'm hoping to make one out of HPDE or possibly wood.

It's a great upgrade.
HDPE is easier than wood and requires no waterproofing.
Hydroturf or ebay "seadeck" type stuff is the most affordable pad.
Just do it, you won't regret it at all.

I’m definitely doing this on my 07. I’m just going to order the Supra one. I talked to Skiers Choice and they still sell the same style brackets since mine are all worn out but I’ve seen one with the new style brackets. I really like the new style brackets but the guy from Skiers Choice told my those brackets are at the wrong angle for my transom. I’ll see what the dealer has to say tomorrow. Here is a pic of an 07 with the new platform and brackets. You can see it sits a little higher too.

Finally did the upgrade. I posted a better description of the process on the Supra board. So much more robust with the new brackets and I don’t have to worry about it coming apart.
