So I will start out September with a video of my 4 year old daughter riding the kneeboard for the first time. The 9 year old boy tried his first flip on his wakeboard the other day and landed on his back nicely. So happy he got the guts to go inverted. He just about has an aerial 360 in his bag now, watch for that video soon.

Nice jimmsch, wish I could get my 7yo more into board sports.

Couple pics from the tie up this weekend, played some volleyball in the water

Got some late-season surfing in this weekend up in Northern Wisconsin.... with the water temp at 66 and the air temp at 70, we grabbed the shorty wetsuits and had a ball on our ‘14 LSV. All four of us got some great surfing in, and I even got the wife the go ropeless for the first time on her sweet new Ronix board - although no pics as I was too busy coaching her from the back of the boat :)

Happy Labor Day 2019 to all!

In addition to getting some late-season surfing in over the weekend, we also got a few final summer runs in the “other” boat, our 1936 Chris Craft 19’ Runabout..... sadly, our boating season up north only runs from Memorial Day to Labor Day, so this is it for us for 2019! Happy boating to all if you’re lucky enough to stay on the water after Labor Day :)

Threw the 750 lb bag in the midship locker and Max came alive. I finally was able to drop the rope and surf. Didn't last long but I felt good learning to find push and how to try and stay in the pocket. As soon as I turned my shoulders toward the boat instead of the wave face that's when it happened for me and I shot to the swim deck and had to use my back foot. I know my stance is real goofball right now but hey I'm just glad I was able to finally do it lol.

That newb stance when trying to stay in the pocket lol. Would have helped if I told the wife to raise the center plate once we took off but oh well I made it happen lol

That thing is so sweet! We saw a massive woody Chris Craft cruising on Gaston this weekend. Looked like it was at least 25’ from a distance but that might just be how it seems with that type of boat.

Thanks man I'm just glad it finally happened. I had been trying for years behind my old Yamaha jetboat. Tried stock Max and couldn't figure it out but when we add the 750 lb bag in the midship locker the wave is pretty good. Obviously nowhere near the level you guys have with both midship bags but much better than stock that's for sure!

It gets you off balance, and tends to turn the board out toward the flat. Stay more square to the wave, and learn to distribute your weight fore and aft to move on the wave, and eventually toss the rope. There's no rush.

So just a few shoer clips of my boy this summer. Some of it has nothing to do with Moomba, but watch it all the way to the end it is really worth it.

Your kid is a badass!!!

My 7yo son likes to think his phase5 scamp is for playing with in the water and uses this “I’m scared” stance about trying anything new (including foods). The only explanation I can think of is that he’s wanting to be his own individual and seems to steer away from anything I’m into including sports, dirtbikes, cars etc. By this age I really thought we would be into some form of racing together but he’s just not interested. I try not to push to hard in hopes he will eventually come around. He’s finally started asking to shoot his BB gun so maybe hunting in a few years lol.

I was exactly the same. Couldnt surf without the rope stock. I added 750s under both mid seats, and now we can all surf without the rope. I will say this tho, I had a semi-pro wake boarder on my boat, and he surfed it stock with no issues. He did a bunch of tricks lol. So it is possible to surf stock, just harder for us beginners lol. My wave makers upgrade ballast comes in tomorrow. Curious to see if there is a difference, since Ill gain 400lbs in the rear, but lose 400lbs under the seats.

Sorry to over post with my kids, but I just can't help myself. This 4 year old girl first kneeboarded yesterday, picked up the handle today and asked for a wakeboard.
So we went into the local wakeboard school and bought her a used board. Voila! She was up (if only for a second) on her first pull using the boat!

Can't wait to get her on a trapeze!!

Are you guys using the side wake plates to get the wake that smooth or is that all just ballasts?

I think the hull/running surface does it, and all wakeboats do it? I think? Idk! This is only with 20-30% ballast. 3 people in boat. But the Craz is apparently a great wakeboard boat, can’t remember where I read it but one of the sponsored riders said it was his favorite Moomba for boarding.

I started my son on Snowskis at 3 years old. He was completely fearless. by 7 he was dropping double black diamonds. However, when we bought our wakeboats, he simply told me "watersports aren't my thing". The first season he would NOT play behind the boat. (I'm anti-tubing, so I won't even bring one on the boat). A few years ago, I think he was 10?, and he said he'd try surfing. He wasn't as intimidated with the slower speeds relative to wakeboarding. So, he tried with a 4'8 board that was too big for him and got up for an INSTANT and was stoked. I immediately bought him a scamp. After a handful of tries surfing, we went back to wakeboarding and he got up and rode. Then back to surfing and the wakeboarding paid off and he was up and riding the scamp. I still have to push him a bit to get behind the boat because often he'd just as soon be lazy and chill. Unless we're gonna do something crazy, then he's in. The doubles wakeboarding and doubles surfing was no problem to talk him into!

Snowboarding is certainly Zandar's favorite sport, but we only get 4 or 5 days on a mountain per year as compared to 100 or more days on the water. He started snowboarding (and wakeboarding) at 6 and can do black diamonds in Vermont, blue trails out west. His sister got on skis last year (at 3 years), hopefully she can do more this year. The trapeze thing is just prepping them for aerial awareness behind the boat when they get into the real tricks.

Come to think of it I wish we lived closer to mountains and flipped the time spent on mountains vs water...less expensive. I think I paid more than $2500 for gas this summer and still have about 6 weeks left!!

I can't say that ski/snowboard is any cheaper. We'll be around that $2.5k in season passes and that's before gas to/from the mountain and lodging for all the road trips we have planned this year. The wife is a snow junkie though, so it's easy to justify both the summer and winter expenses. Affording them is a whole other issue!!!

Oh man, I feel like Im always changing it lol. Ive only had the boat a month, and were all new to wakesurfing. I added the wavemakers ballast Friday night, so 1200s and 550s, and I have a 260 in the bow under the front seat. Pics are Sat, and Sun. Sat I had 8 passengers with that setup. Today I had 3 passengers, and ended up putting a 750 in the back seat, and another 260 in the bow on the floor. Running 10.5-11mph, and 0,20,65.

So we're getting back into wetsuit temperatures. I wasn't on the boat for this session so I don't know the temps, but my guess is low 70s air temp and maybe the same for the water, but it feels cold when you get out so when you're 9 you wear a wetsuit. Anyway a little progress on some new tricks using the bb Talkin helmets. These are great you can talk to the kid behind the boat and he can talk to you.

These are the kind of nights I live for. Butter in the main channel of the Columbia River, and starting my wakeboarding about 1/3 of the way into the time we're usually motoring. Even better in our normal play spot.

Just the wife and I, so we pretended we were in one of those "no flagger states".

The wife got perfect water for her surf run. We were the only people playing in the water and it was still 70 water/ 82 air.

Finished with a slalom ski a bit after sunset. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190912/a2290327209493b75e41eb0ff0fea493.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190912/9ddd1c01ff56a29542275b9da5d9c590.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190912/b5b8bbc169277e935a9aca121f23899b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190912/5ecf22f29620d0a53e4cb04b5808fad6.jpg

Gloomy Sunday morning surf. Killer skim wave. Ended up being a great candidate for Autowake.

Interesting that you are only 50% all the way around on your ballast thanks to Autowake. That pic was manual settings. Right after that, I turned on Autowake and matched the pitch and roll settings, and set Amplitude to 50%. It didn't really change the ballast, maybe +/- 2%. That's my friend's daughter surfing, she prefers a more mellow skim wave.

When I try to use Autowake for myself, with no extra bodies to move around, it can't achieve pitch, roll, and 100% amplitude.

I never take the lead out.

The most people I ever have is 8-10 total and with the 550 motor I never have to worry about getting on plane, even with the 850 and 10 people in the boat it jumps on plane so I never pull the lead.

Towed a buddies 2020 SA back home from break-in svc Cincinnati (I was down there for meetings). Then got out on it last night. Absolutely bananas surf wave and wake. He lengthened it out at 11.3 and I never have been able to recover/pump back in from 30’ back. Wild. Sound system is great. It’s an amazing package!

I’ll also never own another boat can’t be towed with the tower down. This thing weighs a lot more than my Craz but I got 4-5mpg better.

My buddy I’ve been boarding/boating with since we were 15 decided it was time to upgrade from his 1999 Pro Air Nautique since we primarily surf now. He and his wife usually come out on our boat since the wave is so much better than you can get in a DD.

They just bought a 2005 Super Air Nautique 210, so yesterday he and I took it out with multiple fat sacs and pumps to get it dialed in before he starts ordering specific bags for the storage areas. It made a great wave for a 21’ boat, and its only going to get better. I’ll be helping him upgrade to reversible pumps and redo the stereo system this winter.

That is a mute swan and they are aggressive. They are a non native species and a nuisance.

If a mute swan was that close to my boat, I would probably shoot it with my hand gun. Mutes have orange beaks.

Just don’t confuse them with a trumpeter swan as those are protected.

I remember this article from a few years ago, says the mute swan is the most aggressive bird on earth towards humans.

I don't shoot animals, so no hypocrisy here.

Joe Rogan brought up a fantastic point on a recent podcast:

What’s better, an animal raised in captivity its entire life, only knowing confinement and awful conditions before they’re slaughtered?

OR

An animal that is quickly and humanely killed in the midst of their natural habitat after living a full life in the wild?

After selling to large meat-packers (and having seen their facilities) I know which option I choose. Not to mention that nature is rarely that kind to its own. For example, plenty of documented cases and footage of wolves/coyotes eating deer alive. From back to front.

they definitely chopped off a chuck of our normal run, but we had about 75% of our normal ride length, and definitely no chance for a double up at the fisherman end!!! But we managed. we were the only watersports there. Go figure.

I got to try a wakefoil for the first time yesterday. It was pretty sweet, but much harder than I expected. I could see some nasty wipeouts involving the foil under the board. Both myself and my cousin knocked knees, ankles and shins on it!

Yea I think that's why most people I see foiling wear helmets.

Fun behind the 2020 SA today!

The 2019 Butter Bar is probably the best board I’ve ridden. Love it.

Everything is insane! Love it.

South of that bridge in the second pic is no wake so we were filling ballast, doing sunscreen, and he was wrapping up some work stuff.

It’s bumping 99% of the time. A homeowner along the river called in a noise complaint last week [emoji1787] “Cops: I’m not even mad, that’s amazing”

It’s so good. I’ve told people: while you’re surfing behind it, it sounds about as good and bass-y as when you’re sitting INSIDE most other high end boats

Really? I find that hard to believe. I mean, I have a pair of REV410s on my tower and nothing comes close to them for mid-bass. I've got three 10" subs, the pair of REV410s, and 8 polk cabin speakers. the only area where I'm really lacking is that my cabins are only 6.5's...

Have you ever been on a boat with 4 rev10's or a pair of REV410s?

music is such a subjective thing BUT.....
last boat had 4 icon8's. current boat has 4 rev10's(and a stupidly large box stuffed with a jl 13w7 that's WAY overkill).
the rev's get stupid-loud for a very long ways but imo they are quite "bright" due to the hlcd drivers. I found the icon's to be a much more musical speaker and personally found it to sound better than any setup with revs on them.

will the rev's outplay anything on the market? yes. without question. are they the most musical thing out there? no. not in my opinion.

Yes the new Supra SA JL system is unreal.

I have heard the REV10’s just this summer, very loud I agree, but the richness and quality of the 2020SA sound is amazing AND it’s really loud.

The new technology in the JL amps, the number of 8.8” speakers, the 2 12” subs and the tuning JL Audio did on the 2020 Supras is impressive.

I understand the skepticism and you might need to hear it yourself to believe how good it is.

Agree 100%

Have two buddies with Malibu's one has 4 rev10s the other has 2 rev10s. There is so much highs coming out of those rev10s you cannot have enough mids and bass to even out the harshness of the highs on those rev10s.

I'll stick with the JL setup in my SL and I really want to hear the new setup on the 2020 SA with the 2 12s sub and the new DSP amps.

Are the JLs hlcd? Are you listening to them at wakeboard length?

Because you can't have it all. Obviously if you don't demand a speaker project to 70+ feet you can have even better SQ. That said, I'd put the midbass of my rev410s up against any speaker on the market.

Not at wakeboard length, just at sandbar.

It will be interesting when owners start giving feedback on the new Supra sound systems.

The Amps and custom tuning by JL are next level. Game changer.

Not at all intended as a bash of any other high end speakers or amps.

in context, it all makes sense now. I know that my Wetsounds REV410s are LOUD AF. But the fact that I can make ears bleed at 75 feet doesn't necessarily equate to "sound quality". My context is how good it sounds while still being Loud AF. So we're quantifying with a different value set. :-D

The biggest thing is that we all link up our systems with the Wireless A-Link so we don't have stereo wars and are jammin' the same tunes!!!

I have a '19 SE that was spec'd out like the 2020's (all JL, from the factory , 2-12" subs, 4- 8.8" towers etc...), the only difference is the new amps for 2020. The sound quality is amazing at max volume, clear, not overpowered by highs, full and rich across the audible frequency band. I'm sure it's not as loud as REV 10's (what I had on my last boat) at wakeboard distance, but at surf distance the sound quality is definitely superior.

I get your point but not sure it’s apples to apples, a factory boat vs your aftermarket system...

But I think at wakeboard length the quad JL tower speakers are great. Not quite as loud but also don’t sound like a cell phone at full blast like the REV10s sound to me. Good balance of sound throw and quality.

"factory" systems have come so far that it really is apples to apples. Boat systems are so damn simple anymore:

What tower speakers should we use?
Let's throw a handful of cabin speakers in there
Sub(s). If we put 1 or 2 in there, it's gonna pound as long as it has an enclosure & we don't half ass it freeair.
Make sure you have the appropriate power going to everything with class D amps.
Rock out with your...

But you're VERY correct in that it's not apples to apples comparing a system designed for surf distance to one designed for wakeboard distance. Of course the HLCD's aren't going to have the SQ of a surf tower speaker. That's the apples to oranges.

I don't know that you can really get into a comparison of factory vs aftermarket as tray points out the lines are pretty blurry....
rev10's are considered aftermarket on some boats but are factory on others. jl's are factory now on supras but you can still pick them up in the aftermarket.
amp tuning is really the only thing that you could say is factory about any of the systems anymore as in some cases they are boat-specific however even those have non-factory equivalents that you can buy, just not tuned as such.

boats are really nothing more than a factory hull cobbled together with a lot of aftermarket parts.

I do agree with matt in his review of the ws hlcd drivers. rev10's/410's sound like $hit to me- way too much highs. do they work at wakeboard distance better than most? ya but at a cost of sq when you're surfing or just chillin in the boat. all imo and based on the number of rev10's running around, others think differently.

harkens me back to my old circuit city days as a sales manager.
you want it loud? dcm or klipsch for their 12-15" subs and hlcd highs. pick any receiver that has a ton of power, usually sony or pioneer as they were clean enough.
you want it clear? infinity or polk. smaller subs and actual tweeters. usually sold onkyo or HK receivers as they were considered more musical but less power for same $$.

I would say JL Audio is taking it seriously with Supra and Nautique by helping integrate speaker pods and subs into the boat design.

The going the next step with tuning each model. The new JL amps don’t even have gain adjustments anymore. It’s all done by JL.

I think many will be impressed with the 2020 SA.

have to see one someday. JL makes, imo, the best subs on the market. their amps are decent. not heard their 2ways.
in the car audio area, their subs are really where they get the attention.

I get the jl/supra custom tuning but..... makes it harder to integrate other products and if you swap out for another brand their proprietary stuff is not worth what it could be. that's not a good position on the consumer side. I think bose in cars. good stuff but there's better aftermarket out there. cost quite a bit to integrate with bose and if you take their stuff out it's pretty much worthless. feels like in the boating environment jl is moving in that direction. ws has had amps in tige's for a few years that are tuned and you can't mess with them. it's definitely a downside for those that want to tinker with the setup.

I think about tray's boat and a new 2020 sa. sure the sa is nice BUT 10 years from now like tray's boat, his is actually able to be worked on and tinkered with. some of these new boat electronics are going to be a challenge...... especially as some of the stuff are 1-off's and vendors are not going to support long term.

This is true about electronics but cars like Tesla’s are really starting to prove that wrong. Not to mention Nautique and Malibu, these screens are really lasting a looooong time.

My kids have an iPad that’s over a decade old. Zero issues with the screen, and guarantee my animals put that through more trauma than a boat screen will ever see [emoji1787]

I don’t think it’s at all like oem audio systems like bose for GM cars.

It’s simply the next generation of VXi amps from JL.

Here is the non marine version, but same technology.
