Hey guys,

I am going to surf test a Max this week and have told my dealer I want the following:

1) Stock 3000 lbs
2) 1000 lbs midship in Lead(I want to simulate the stock setup on a 2020)

I was then planning on bringing a 650 lbs floor bag that I will run on the bench seat surf side. Hoping this will list the boat and simulate ~4 adults sitting surf side on the boat.

Any recommendations...I really want to see if it is worth the upgrade in size vs. my Mondo.

Thanks guys!

That would do it. The question is whether the dealer will play along and get the 1000lb of lead in there that you asked for.

Hah, I have been hounding him...so he is bringing 500...and I am bringing another 500 of my own.

He is annoyed with me, but I rode a Supreme ZS232 the other day with 4600 lbs stock...and it is a killer wave. I need to see if the Max is even close...so gotta make sure that it is apples to apples.

The boat is 23 feet with a 102" beam...it is DEEP...pretty similar depth to the max in depth. The pricepoint is probably on par with a Mojo...but it is a redesigned boat that is pretty surf specific. Some of the features

1. Centurion Tapered V-Hull
2. 4600 lbs of ballast(5 hard tanks and 2 bags)….about 7 minute fill time as it has 7 pumps.
3. Fit and finish interior is probably not as nice as a Moomba.

I am curious on the wave of a properly weighted Max as the ZS was LONG and even push from front to back....very similar to Wake9's SL that I rode last year!

The new ZS232 is priced like a Mojo? Saw one loaded out going for around $115k at a dealer. I get nobody pays msrp, but can't see it getting down below mid 90s. Unless it is fairly limited in options. Interested in what people are paying real world. PS, the dash is a major turn off to me. But to each their own.

The dash is the only real head scratcher for me. Massive dash with a tiny screen. But performance wise it looks impressive. The videos of the wave on YouTube are amazing.

I agree, just 0 dealer support in my area. That 3' of draft is also a concern for me. Plus the wake for boarding is pretty meh.The dash looks like an afterthought with the tiny screen and decade old rocker switches. But the boat overall looks really nice. Price wise, nothing in the ball park of a Max with about every option checked.

I like the aggressive lines of the supreme, it’s the tower location and interior proportions that seem off.

Supreme and centurion confuse me on where their brand identities cross.

Where does supreme Z fit against the Fi and Vi??

I understand Ri is the luxury model.

I think you have it pretty much covered. Set the surf plates pretty much the same as your Mondo, 65-70 for regular and 75 goofy. That 650 bag should almost fit neatly under the surf side bench. I would run an extra 400 pounds down the off side then the other 600 to the surf side. Should have a very substantial wave.

Larry, here is what I know:

1) Centurion
a. RI is their top end fit and finish.
b. FI is their mid range to still get the Centurion finish and find a happy balance.
2) Supreme - Acquired by CC in 2014/2015
a. S211 and S238 will be their budget line similar to the Max\Helix
b. ZS212 and 232 will be their top end Supreme

Basically across 2 brands...they have 2 x fit and finish per brand

I think you are right...the ZS is probably more priced in line with a Makai or Craz Pro. I think it comes with the 409HP standard...so probably more inline with the 450 Raptor?

When we were surfing with 4 adults and 2 kids with 4600 lbs ballast + 300 lbs lead...the boat was doing 3800RPM at 11.2mph...so pretty reasonable for a boat that heavy!

I spent some time walking around the smaller zs(212) series at the local dealer. boat was very nice and liked all of the interior but the dash. agree with others comments.

the single reason I walked away was the tower placement. it's 100% in the way for anyone stepping down from the sundeck into the boat. I saw many many smashed foreheads from that design. not sure if the larger footprint is any better.

on a related note, I see that Amy Mauzy is the pr for supreme. she used to be SC marketing. small world..

Apparently the 2020s are getting a new tower...not sure if it will be the same placement. Bigger screen and new tower are the 2 big changes.

that should be a good amount of weight. start with it all full and make sure you aren't counter weighting the seat bag by having too much people weight including driver on non surf side. I will stand centerline sometimes while driving with regular side wave. if you cant get a good list drain some ballast from opposite side. start with wake plate 55, centerplate at 0, 10.8 MPH GPS. move centerplate to clean it up but no more than 25. next play with surf plate, regular side mine seems to like 50-60, goofy 55-70. next bring speed up .2 Mph at a time and try the different surf plate settings again, also adjust centerplate with the different speeds. I use 10.8 MPH for small people, and around 11.2 for bigger people. the goofy wave is always bigger and easier to set up for me.

So took the Max out tonight and here is how the night went:

1) 900 lbs of lead(600 surf side and 300 non surf side mid-ship
2) Wave was OK on surfing...but actually worse than my tuned Mondo.
3) Filled up the 650 lbs bag and had it infront of the bench seat on the floor.
4) Ran 700 lbs lead surf side and 150 non surf side.

This made it a better wave for sure, but I wouldn't say it was night and day better than the Mondo.(Maybe a little longer...but not a huge difference)

My dealer let me play a lot with it and we tried surfing the Autowake settings with a 9 Pitch and 5 Roll...I did not like that wave at all with those settings!

I would say it is not a fair comparison to the ZS232 as the boat I tested was a demo boat with 120 hours and the family had it dialed! I am not convinced though that the Max could create a comparable wave...I know it could do better than I was able to produce tonight though with a couple days of playing with it!

In my opinion, your setup needs more weight in the front. I run about 7000 lbs total ballast in my Max. Over 1000 lbs of the additional ballast is up front. I run pitch at 8, factory roll settings. Had an Ri237 owner comment last week how crazy my wave was. He said it was taller than his, and almost as long. Having said that, I’m debating a centurion as my next boat. The wave is crazy long. Just not sure of the fit, finish, and overall quality compared to Skiers Choice

That’s just crazy. I’m test driving a new Max tomorrow but if I have to add another 3000-4000 pounds of weight I am going to pass on it. I am hoping adding a couple 700 pound midship bags will suffice. I’m assuming you’ve used up most of the storage getting 7K pounds in your Max?

You don’t have to add 3-4000. It’s what I had laying around in extra bags from previous boats. Not much storage left if everything is full. If you added some lead to the sides and maybe a 500 lb bag up front it’d be plenty. Most boats need some extra to get a really good wave.

I'm hoping the 2 600-700 pound piggybacked midship bags will be the ticket. I'd imagine your wave is massive with 7K filled! Any video or pics of the wave at full ballast?

Demo’d (and purchased) a ‘19 Max today. We had stock bags full and an additional 900 lbs evenly weighted in the middle of the boat. Wave was excellent on both sides (not massive but clean and long) when switching back and forth and I was able to surf easily. Was recovering from 20 feet back. Can’t wait to get the WM’s upgrade installed.

I still haven't given up on it...some guys on here have some great looking waves with the Max! Buying anything but a Moomba means that I would have truck stickers and laptop stickers to replace...don't want to do that!

I really like the Brown interior available on the 2020s too!

Glad it was able to perform tonight! Would be excited to see the WM upgrades and what it does to that wave!

Ordering custom 720 midship bags from Wakemakers as we speak. Should be plug and play with the stock 1000's. Basically the same midship bags as they have in their kit, but in 720 pound size (45x20x20). Anyone have a coupon code before I order?

Massive! How far back can you get?

Between 20 and 25 feet. This was around 5500 lbs ballast, about 500 lbs of people (3) in the boat. My kids and wife can go a bit farther back. I’m still a fairly green rider and weigh 275. Although last year I was 380+ and it was a lot more difficult.

That’s awesome!! I was tipping the scale at 240 earlier this year and started a fit body boot camp a few months ago. I want to get down to 200 or under so I can have more room to play and stop using my “big boy” surf board.

Rush- Did I read this correctly? You are running 7000lbs ballast? How do you even get that thing to move? Can you get it over 10mph?

Also, I am finding that more weight does not mean a bigger wave. I am not sure where the point of diminishing return is. but still working on it slowly.

Yes, it’ll do 12mph fully loaded. Pictures above were around 5500 lbs. I agree, more isn’t necessarily better. I used old bags I had from other boats. That’s why there’s so much in it. I’m able to run a much lower pitch and really lengthen the wave. We run around 7.5 now

I was running 6500 in ballast last night as we put a 900 between the Helm. We also had 9 in the boat plus a couple of littles. The wave was PHA-KEN SAVAGE! Had to be 4.5 tall. However there wasn't much push farther back which is the demon I have been chasing.

I wonder if adding a little speed when you have that much ballast would firm up the back of the wave giving more push back there? Somewhere between 11-11.5

So when I rode it was really good. We had a noob trying to get up, and I sitting on very back of the sundeck helping here and it got even better with the same speed. It wont hurt to bump it up so I will give it a try.

Finally bought a go pro and tested it out. This is a max regular wave with 720 ballast bags in both MIDSHIP lockers. No listing (this why the face of wave isn’t perfect). 11.1 mph (usually do 11.4-6 mph as wenkikemling shorter waves, but wife hit the wrong stalk haha), center plate at 10. Wife is 5’8” and able to sit and see over the bow without seat cushion.

Just a small female driver in the boat. Gas under a quarter tank. That’s me on a hifi Skim board. Surf board and can surf even further back easily. Midships Worth their weight in gold when you have no crew. This would suck if the max didn’t have storage elsewhere galore.

Even with it being a "demo" boat, I still don't think I can swallow new boat pricing. My XLV is 8 grand from being paid off. It's got a tiny payment and I've modded the heck out of it. After riding the max on tuesday and my XLV on wednesday, I can definitely say that the max wave was longer by probably 3 to 4 feet is my guess. But my wave is just as clean and just as powerful (if not more). So yes the max wave is better, but it's not something that COMPLETELY blew me away. It'll likely be my next boat, but at least a season or two out when they've depreciated more and I can get one for a chunk less money. evem a pretty loaded Max would require a decent chunk of time and money to mod it out similar to a lot of the stuff I've done on my XLV. sure, that's part of the fun. But the timing just isn't right for me.

Trayson, stock rear bags? That boat looks eerily similar :D

Yeah, stock rear bags, but the trays were removed to just get that much more in them.

2 questions; is this a 2020 beacuase im jealous of the trailer wheels! And why are there registration stickers on the windshield?

So, there was someone that bought a boat and didn't want the 18s that came with it, so the dealer swapped the 18s onto the Max and gave the max wheels to that customer. it's a 2019 and was the demo boat for the dealer.

You can get upgraded wheels from Boatmate when you custom order the boat or at least your dealer can help. I didn't want to go with the larger wheels but I did want something different than the 5 star wheels that come stock so I had my dealer work with boatmate to upgrade mine during my build.
